  2. Almost all my CD's I purchased via subscriptions to Columbia House's mail order club. I built up quite a collection of CD's taking advantage of the their signup bonus promos and then cancel the subscription. Rinse and repeat. I still listen to the music that was on those CD's as a long time ago I converted them to MP3 files.
  3. I have to admit that as a farang I try to order my coffee in fluent Thai. Mrs TT says it is correct but the look on the face of ghe girls face tells me she has no clue. They generally turn to Mrs TT and try to converse with her which irritates me greatly. I have on occasion asked the girls colleagues if she is Thai and understands Thai, in Thai. Seems to do the trick.
  4. Reminds me of the time I went out to buy a new computer in the early 1990's. The PC was on sale and came with a collection of 10 CD-roms. The shop assistant pointed to a crate and said I could select the disk from there. The disks were either demos, shareware games or porn pictures from various BBS. Being a 14-16 year old hormone filled teenager I naturally chose 10 porn cd's. 😁
  5. Just got my electric bill for March/April, I get the ticket direct from PEA, the local electric company, even though I rent and there's a management office. They agreed from day 1 (2 years ago) that I'll pay the electric and water directly. Looking at my bill, if you just take the units used and the headline figure the government rate is 3.6729 per unit. Underneath that is a couple of other bits in Thai that I don't understand (probably standing monthly charge) and a 56 baht refund for something I again don't understand, but that total divided by the units used is 3.9527 per unit. With the tax at 7%, if that's added then a unit cost worked out it's 4.2293 per unit. Whichever calculation is used, at 10 you're paying over double the government rate, so definitely OTT.
  6. Superb bass line (I play the bass) but you could add Pigs, what do you want from me and sheep

  8. Was the same, gave all my old records and CD’s to a charity shop.
  9. Yep, that was when I moved to the Kap Choeng area in '97... a period of time when there really was fuckall to do in the village !!

  11. Best fight ever IMO, the glory days of boxing were the 70’s to 90’s, don’t follow it anymore.

  13. The one that choked me up was during the tsunami where many many reports of Thais helping the foreigners often at the cost of their own lives. I hear much negative comment about this and especially Thai ladies who the peasants back home immediately assume are bar girls. Not once did I hear any conversationcomme ding the selfless acts of the many thais who gave their lives. Moving further back google Boonpong and brothers in relation to the death railway.

    Sad

Seems according to the news today that UK plod are looking to foreign plod to assist them in locating a suspect. Could that be here or Hkg?
  15. I had an unfortunate experience with a dutchman recently. Mrs TT and u had just arrived at our local for dinner when the staff rushed up to us saying that a farang had driven into our car. True enough a completely plastered dutchman had ripped off the front wing of our car. He begged me not to call the police or insurance because of his inebriation and faithfully promised to settle any bill for damage repair. He caimed to be a good friend of the owner of the restaurant. Stupid me believed him and subsequently ended up paying a 35,000 bill and getting ghosted by him and his g/f . He though is banned from the restaurant.

  17. All very interesting if you are a US citizen. My UK bank failed to send me my replacement debit card. No notice, no correspondence, nothing. On querying this with Lloyd's I was told that the bank had stopped sending mail to Thailand because of the dubious mail service. They didn't think it necessary to let me know but, oddly enough, on the same week that I was spending money calling these clowns trying to resolve matters, I received a letter from them requesting tax status information "for their records" plus a replacement debit card from the TSB who is a part of the lloyds banking group. In the end I had the card sent to my sister in the UK who then posted it to me with the knowledge of lloyds. I am confused to say the least!
  18. I sympathise with your feelings. I was "fortunate" enough to be in Saudi during the first gulf War and to see the bombers taking off wuthering long black tails of exhaust out as they struggled for altitude was incredible.
  19. I promised myself that I would go there for my late father. On arrival I met an old chap in the Grenadier Guards kit. He claims he knew my old dad. Hard to believe. The cemeteries there (both of them) made me tear up. They were so young and came from all walks of life. How disappointed they would be today.
  20. Ha, well I was just about to write a bad tempered, grouchy post about it being 40 something degrees and the kin electric had been off for the last hour 🥵. Lo and behold it’s just come back on again 😎 Amazing Thailand 🙄🙏
  21. Plus if ever I can reciprocate that kindness I am here. I will have another chat with Mrs TT when she gets back from the hairdressers... .
  22. I fully agree and genuinely appreciate the effort and time put in to help me. You don't get that very often nowadays.
  23. I'll have to check out that store - they have a big selection of used CD's in the Dasa bookstore just south of Soi 26 on Sukhumvit but they are rather awkwardly displayed; however, I have found a couple of good ones in there.
