  1. So first venture out was to the local Tesco/Lotus, came home with a kitten. Walked into the shop and this wee kitten came running in behind me so picked it up to put it back outside. It jumped up on my shoulder and wouldn't move nor let go and it still won't let go. Looks like we have another cat.

  4. Chunky Monkey is a new restaurant on Soi Buakhao, open less than a week. It's located just north of Tree Town on the east side of Bukhao. I read that the original owner of the Robin's Nest is behind it, but I don't know any details. I had the "Monkey Madness" pork chop with fried onions, crinkle-cut French fries and small portions of salad and applesauce. It was good considering the price (79 baht). The chop had been fried properly and tasted fine. It was a bit thin, but what can you expect for 79 baht? I wish the onions had been fried a bit longer to allow more caramelization, but that's a minor criticism. The fries were crispy outside, fluffy inside and the salad was fresh. The Chunky Monkey has 99-baht daily specials in addition to the 79-baht Monkey Madness offers. The specials appear to give about a 50-baht discount compared with the ordinary menu prices. The menu is extensive, running to over 100 food items. Like dozens of other Pattaya restaurants, the emphasis is on British and international comfort food, but the menu also includes about 20 Thai dishes and 10 desserts. Most of the menu items are under 200 baht. The sirloin and ribeye steaks with egg, fries, tomato and peas are 249 baht. The most expensive menu item I could see was the salmon with parsley sauce, mash and peas at 289 baht. The Chunky Monkey offers breakfast as well. I forgot to ask the hours of operation, but I imagine it's early until late. It's a spacious restaurant with several wall-mounted TVs for sports fans. My rough estimate is 70 seats indoors and at least 15 outside. The indoor section is no smoking. I ate there at about 10.15 p.m. and there were 10 other diners at that time. Bottom line: The Chunky Monkey is cheap and cheerful. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. If by choice or necessity you don't want to spend a lot to eat farang food, it would appear a good option. It's still very early days, but the location on Soi Buakhao bodes well for attracting budget-conscious customers. I have to say, though, that I don't think much of the name. And in fairness, you can add 50 to 100 baht to the Chunky Monkey's price and get a much bigger pork chop dinner at several restaurants in the LK Metro area. But if a smaller-to- normal portion is good enough for you, the Chunky Monkey offers great value for money. 5. Yep i was buying an 8 litre box of MC red for circa 1200bht at Makro, since the price increase a couple of months ago they now no longer do the 8 litre but do a 3 litre for circa 900bht, no thankyou, i got nothing against price increases but this is just pure piss taking imo.

  7. They will be a lot colder for her when I kick her out. Only joking. 🤗 She has banged up 7 new cars in 9 years and she rings me and I always know she’s done something wrong, as the conversation usually starts with “honey, don’t be angry with me but”! ☹️ OK, she has only damaged them, when I have an accident, I usually write them off. 🤪

  9. Ouch is right. I’ve paid out this month the following 2 car tax, 2 car insurances for a year, house and contents insurance, 2 car services, school meals for 3 months, gas, leccy and water, all for 3 months, gas boiler service, green flag for 2 cars and had the log burner chimney swept. On top of that, the wife kerbed one car wheel last week on the 7 seater, which has huge wheels, so £500 plus for new wheel, £170 for new tyre and £45 for getting the tracking fixed. Have I mentioned I paid the TV license? 😭😭😭

  12. Im not really into Christmas dinner if i'm honest, Ill be in Bangkok so not sure what ill do for eating. Last year I ended up going to El gaucho with some pals and our girlfriends for something to eat, we ended up in there about 4 hours drinking after our meal. Told the Gf that I was going for a few beers after dinner and I would see her in a hour or so. Me and my pals staggered round to Soi cowboy and I cant remember much at all. I woke up the next day in some shit room in Ari with some girl from crazy house and 20 odd missed calls from the mrs 😀 Told her this year ill be on my best behaviour, i've agreed that after dinner we will go visit her parents 🙄

  21. Have to say that even sitting down and budgeting for babies can be far off target, babies have a way of rewriting the best budgets. One thing I will say though Phil, once the wee one enters this world your mind will not be thinking about Thailand and I mean that in the most positive way.

  26. I was wandering around siam square area while the gf was getting her hair done last month. I seen this idiot sitting with a group of young Thai guys with this t-shirt on. I went over and told him I wanted to take a picture of his t-shirt. He probably thought I was some kind of queer, some guy pointing at his t-shirt laughing away asking to take his picture. God knows where he got it from, I didn't have the patience to try and explain what it meant and tell him he that he's not white😀 He couldn't understand my Glaswegian accent and kept saying "Russia Russia" 😂
