  1. Home made cheese burgers tonight. The burgers are pre made from the local supermarket chain. They come about an inch think so I tend to flatten them out a bit. Once cooked if left end up like an over sized meat ball. In with the mushrooms... Now the green leaf salad. i tend to chop up fine with the salad, Then I add cider vinegar, mild olive oil, black pepper and a touch of salt. Now it time to build the burger... Melted cheese and cooked mushrooms. All done

  2. Just got back from a day at the Natural History museum with Kataleya. Had a great time despite the place being over ridden with tourists who seemed to block every direction I wanted to walk in. No entrance charge although donations welcomed, didn't cost me to get there either as both me and the wee one are free on the trains from my manor. Kataleya really enjoyed the dinosaur skeletons and the massive blue whale still hanging up in one of the large rooms, it was there when I first went from primary school in the 60's. They have a massive moon globe which is lit up just like the moon in a blue back lit room, awesome. Weather was bloody awful but was a good day out for my exercise and to have fun with my daughter.

  3. All a question of degree. The AUD and EUR are just being mugged, the GBP is being raped, sodomised and slaughtered.

  9. it's all to do with uncertainty surrounding a no deal scenario , if we leave with no agreements , confusion and chaos will reign and the pound will fall further ... if Boris agrees a deal and gets it through Parliament then the pound will recover very quickly

  10. I already am, but what can you do? I own my house in Pattaya and have a car and motorbike here, most of my stuff's pretty new and in good shape so it should last for years, and if I'm careful then I don't see any major expenditures on the horizon (though there's always the unknown unknowns, of course). So the exchange rate only really affects my food and drink costs, electricity, and discretionary spending. I'd never spend a winter in the UK so it might be possible to go back for six months in the summer to enjoy the 'cheaper cost of living' back there, but the savings aren't going to be life-changing. I go back to the UK twice a year for a month anyway, and bring back to Thailand the best part of two suitcases full of food, so a lot of what I eat in Thailand I buy in the UK anyway. Booze is becoming very expensive in Thailand at these exchange rates, it may be a good excuse to cut down on my alcohol consumption, who knows? Plus if I started spending summer back in the UK I'd lose my non-resident status for tax purposes, which would complicate life for a while, as well as making it permanently more expensive. I haven't worked out all the numbers yet, but as long as I'm careful in Pattaya and don't go crazy in a Gogo bar or whatever, then even below 30 Baht/£ I don't see much upside to returning to the UK for half the year. The other thing to remember is that Britain imports a hell of a lot more than it exports, so the weak pound will work its way through into consumer prices eventually and inflation will go up. The current 'low cost of living' in the UK is unlikely to last very long.

  14. Many small businesses fail because they set prices too low. They simply can't generate enough revenue to cover expenses. The budget end of the market is extremely tough. Customers are very fickle. They'll take advantage of the special prices on food, but will drink in a bar where bottled beer is five baht cheaper. And it's a fact of life that you can't make money in Pattaya by selling meals for 99 baht unless the quality is abysmal. Evil

  15. One day a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw a guy eating grass. He told the driver to stop. He got out and asked him, “Why are you eating grass?” The man replied, “I’m so poor, I can not afford anything to eat.” So the layer said, “Poor guy, come back to my house.” The guys say, “I have a wife and three kids.” The lawyer told him to bring them along. When they were all in the car, the poor man said, “Thanks for taking us back to your house, it is so kind of you.” The lawyer replied, “You’re going to love it there … the grass is a foot tall!”

  18. From what I can make out, a no deal is more likely than ever. I'm not hopeful. For what it's worth, I'd much rather be in Pattaya right now, in spite of the financial hit, than back in the UK. The girls have been great. I'm doing STs with freelancers at 1000 a time and they've all delivered. Doing LTs and taking them out partying is a thing of the past right now. I was never a big spender but it's not that difficult to make cuts. I was telling myself that this could be the last time for a while, but now I'm here it's hard to contemplate Pattaya not figuring somewhere in the future. I just don't think there's anywhere else in the world quite like here. I'll be thinking of what to do next year as soon as I get back.

  21. If they gave a f**k they would demonstrate massively for gun control, not for the protection of some old cowboy era rule.... And gun control mean ZERO guns, except for law enforcement (and even for those it remains a question...) I agree, its not the gun that kills but the people. So, explain me why 2 other countries with a huge gun ownership (Switzerland and Israel) don't have this problem ? Different state of mind (gently expressed...) ALL, I mean ALL the civilized countries in the world look at this mayhem shaking their head, or smiling depending on their mood. Me, I dont give a shit TBH, its your country, your rules. Don't come crying everytime it happens, it is of your making. Amen.

  22. I agree , but from the outside it looks like your country as a whole has become desensitised to this type of violence and even after Las Vegas / Virginia Tech / Sandyhook / Santa Fe / etc etc nothing changes after unless of course the perp happens to be a Muslim , then it's terrorism and you are all under attack ...

  35. What are you going to do ....stay home and never travel ... ? The pound has tanked against most currencies, although the THB strength has not helped either ... Thailand is still the best destination for the type of holidays I want ( winter sun and women ) no where else can offer that imho and I have travelled to other countries ( Brazil , Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma )

  40. One of the new rules they are bringing in for the coming season is that a player being substituted must leave the field of play at the nearest possible point, this is an attempt to stop the player dawdling for 100metres or more to kill a bit of time. can you imagine if he is an away player being substituted because he has just committed a bad foul and been yellow carded and the manager doesn`t want him getting another card and being sent off. He has to walk right around the ground receiving dogs abuse and more than likely having missiles thrown at him, by the time he gets back to the dugout he will be covered in sputum, this could possibly lead to another Cantona like incident. Cant wait for the season to start

  41. With the tumbling exchange rate, people are gonna look at pricing rather than the quality in many circumstances. Most tourists want cheapness, its why all inclusive holidays are so popular. And most visitors to Pattaya are used to cheap prices, its one of the main attractions.
