  2. A decent read on Sterling's demise in the Mail this morning. I personally think he's spot-on when he concludes: "Even so, it strikes me as deranged to see a tumbling pound as anything other than bad news. To put it very simply, the further our currency falls, the more we pay, not just for sunhats and ice lollies on holiday, but for the fruit and vegetables in our supermarkets, the appliances on our High Street shelves and the cars on the dealer’s forecourt. Higher prices mean lower living standards, a slowing economy and, in the long run, higher unemployment. Nothing to celebrate there.... And if Mr Johnson is not worried, he should be. For if the pound continues to plunge indefinitely, the only people who will lose their shirts will be us: the British people." It's also good to see him debunking the myth that even respectable economists peddle these days, people who should be able to analyse the economic data themselves and draw their own conclusions, rather than regurgitating the sham-wisdom peddled by monetary doves who couldn't care less about people's standard of living. “Indeed, according to some Brexiteers, we should cheer a falling pound, since it will make our products cheaper abroad, boosting British business, turbo-charging the economy and providing countless new manufacturing jobs. Unfortunately, very few economists or businessmen find this remotely plausible. Nor do I. For one thing, these days most British manufacturers rely on imported components, which would be far more expensive with a lower pound. So their goods would not be cheaper after all. And the idea of a devalued pound unleashing an exports boom has long since been exposed as a self-deluding fantasy. Back in 1967, Harold Wilson told the nation that a lower pound meant we could ‘sell more goods abroad’. No such boom materialised. It did not materialise in 2008 either, when the pound took a battering during the financial crisis. Nor in 2016, when sterling dropped like a stone after the EU referendum.” https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-7307953/Sterlings-plunge-left-holidaymakers-despair-worried-long-term.html

  6. Hi John, If you have never drunk cider I would suggest that you start of with a few cans of cider each mixed with half a pint of lager in a pint glass. Known as snake bite when I lived in Birmingham. Don't drive home. 😛

  13. This US obsession with weapons is absolutely incomprehensible for the rest of the civilized world. The problem has nothing to do with laws, but with the peoples brain. As as long as American dads will be proud to show their guns, organize shooting BBQs, and teach their kids how to use guns and be a "real man" it will never stop. The brainwashing in this situation is not done by a government but by one generation to another. But as I have read / heard often, how can we silly Europeans know what it is to be a real man and patriot.....

  14. Yes you did better this time. I still say though that if there is a will and desire to change the law then all the stating of existing legislation, state laws and articles etc should mean nothing compared to the overriding belief that something needs to be done and that starts at the top of the chain in the Whitehouse. I remember reading a very good article about the interpretation of the 'right to bear arms' and the fact that it really applied to militias protecting the people and not Johnny Nofriends going out and buying a gun to massacre groups of innocent bystanders. I am just a Brit though that will look incredulously in on occasions when this will happen again. Just reminds me of a post by a guy on another forum who was shocked and disturbed that I was able to go to my supermarket without a gun for protection. I am still amazed by that shock he described. We just have different views but governed mainly by our differing laws. Anyhow this thread needs not to get sidetracked by a Brit's view on gun control, that is for yourselves and your compatriots to deal with, we are just voyeurs.

  20. Todays intake on food:- I always look forward to mornings in my house as i get to wake up with my son and cook my self a full english. Just the way I like it... my kind of perfect egg just over cooked and just how i like black pudding, well cooked... Then at early afternoon I decided to try a tin of soup with some french bread:- Very nice indeed with the bread. This evening I decided to try a toad in the hole from Tesco's which was only a pound and the mash was made my her in doors with chopped onion and carrot. Bisto gravy with a touch on mint sauce. It was bloody lovely for the price...

  23. Stealers, thanks for coming and being such a great guy. Hope you can make it on Friday for the “big show” 555 Nambla, thanks for the Twigletts, they’re coming out on Friday, I may need some salty snacks. Still experimenting with the glass doors, had them open and closed last night. Not too much noise from over the road but if the sound levels are compromised I will take action to keep it a nice lively but quiet environment. Got some pictures of the girls coming soon from Dave the Rave.

  24. If they gave a f**k they would demonstrate massively for gun control, not for the protection of some old cowboy era rule.... And gun control mean ZERO guns, except for law enforcement (and even for those it remains a question...) I agree, its not the gun that kills but the people. So, explain me why 2 other countries with a huge gun ownership (Switzerland and Israel) don't have this problem ? Different state of mind (gently expressed...) ALL, I mean ALL the civilized countries in the world look at this mayhem shaking their head, or smiling depending on their mood. Me, I dont give a shit TBH, its your country, your rules. Don't come crying everytime it happens, it is of your making. Amen.
