hahahahaha I know that feeling, when I was made redundant and went home end of 2017 I had 1 million baht in cash to take home (proceeds of selling my stuff) and Kbank had decided that as I no longer had a work permit I was unable to do an international transfer so off I went to TT and exchanged it for AUD.... that was a nervous scooter ride !!3 points

But I was told they were all doctors and scientists. 😂 I actually find most eastern Europe folk to be really decent people. But we aren't a wealthy country anymore and we can't afford to re-home half the developing world.2 points

Since the mass influx of Eastern European's many companies now only pay minimum wage as they have saturated the job market. So many people have no choice.2 points

Wages rising faster in the UK as less and less positions are being filled by eastern europeans. Priti Patel announcing that new immigrants to the UK will have to earn at least 36k per year. Finally the tide is starting to turn in favour of the ordinary Brit. 😎2 points

KWA, one of the cheapest places in Pattaya/Jomtein is Tequila sunrise. He's forever putting specials on at giveaway prices. His cashier told me it was done to attract an investor, rather than walk away and lose money. There's plenty reasons for business owners to sell food at a giveaway price. It's a long, lonely journey back home on a flight, completely broke. Sell food at cost, profit on drink. Survive on other investments. The Pattaya lifestyle is addictive, nobody walks away easy.2 points

BeIN have lost the rights to the EPL and now they are held by True. It’s easier for me to make bullet points. * Gold package holders no longer get BeIN channels, they are a free add on to the Platinum package but they DONT show EPL anyway. * True channels 600-605 now show the EPL It’s an add on if 199฿ a month for the first 3 months, then 299 after that. * EPL channels are free on the Platinum package * If you only want EPL can I suggest that you just subscribe to a cheaper package, like sports, or even just the free channels, then have the EPL as an add on. * even cheaper, get a Chromecast and TrueID subscription for the season 2,500฿ for the season, with unlimited on demand playback. To be fair, True have been promoting this for weeks with emails, online adds and ticker tape announcements. Hope that helps Cliff. Phil2 points

You're a grafter mate, a fighter, not a quitter. You've already done this, just keep positive and kick f**k out of it again, once and for all. You'll bound to have had the Professional Doctor or consultant opinion as well, so you'll know the score about it coming back like this.1 point

24k baht per month that's a roof over your head and two meals. That's a very good option for brits who are struggling on a measly pension and crap exchange rates.1 point

If I was getting that view I wouldn't be on the computer at all, I would just be enjoying my twilight years and taking my meds to enable me to strut across to the jet skis lol.1 point

I think this issue has potential to grow into a massively huge international cluster. A very real and serious one.1 point

Yes, I noticed that too. You'd think with their increasing level of business (well, certainly in Thailand) that they might have cut the fee a little bit rather than the other way. I also noticed that it's taking longer for the money to arrive. In the past I did the transfer in the early PM here and the money turned up in my SCB account on the dot of 13:15 the next day. The last two transfers have taken three days instead of one. Has anybody else noticed this?1 point

ok today is a weekday, I need to move $40,000 AUD.... TT is giving me Bt. 826,239.97 (20.656) and TW is Bt. 828,144.81(20.703) after fees. However if I lower that number to $1000 TW is giving me less that TT (20.630 vs 20.656).1 point

Sensible man mate, ya got a plan, a bloody good one at that. Trouble for me is a pack of Camel here in Thailand is 60bht, fat chance i got of the cost being a motivating factor lol, but i know countless friends/family in the UK who packed it in based on the cost and what they can do with the dosh they've saved.1 point

^^^ Re the above.....if we use that last screenshot from Forest we'll assume TT is 36.90 this Saturday morning £1000 via handing over the wad at the booth will give you 36900 obviously Transferwise (which I use as well) will land in your account at 36755 145 Baht more OTC £5000 at TT is 185,200 £5000 via TW is 183,979 Its better to do the comparison weekdays. I'd be very surprised if TT is still 36.90 this Saturday morning as well I noticed to that TW fee has gone up slightly as well or it has since I last used it1 point

The Thai factor. Staff messing up orders, unexpected bills and scams. Police extortion. Price of gas to cook. Condiments, sauces etc. Cost to transport goods. Maintaining and replacing abused equipment. It all adds up. For these 10 meals they need a washer up, a service and a cook and a cashier. Look at a UK restaurant, they are always understaffed because the staff can multi task and do a proper job. Not the same in Thailand. In one hand and out the other... guaranteed. A good bar with girls can still do OK but these places, like your example will be gone and forgotten in the future, while the bars with nice girls are still there.1 point
