  2. great question and lets take face book for example. I do not feel there is as much business generated from it as many others do why ? Simple what good is it to have 50,000 members following business facebook page if they are not guys on the ground or frequent visitors ? I have thousands of friends on FB and many many of them have joined the same facebook pages i belong to which are lots of the night life ones. Well guess what they are guys that are not here and will never be coming here but interested none the less in the thailand nightlife cause where they live in Bumfuck Utah there is nothing like it. Lets see the hard numbers of the facebook guys that are here or come often and I assure you its a very small percentage of the total. So facebook great advertising ? Don't kid yourself.

  3. According to many here Secrets was nothing without the forum. I think both Rockhouse and Le Pub do ok and not necessarily due associations with a forum. As much as Pattaya Live may have been a draw in the older days in getting numbers in to the Rockhouse the majority of the usual patronage is now foot traffic that has no allegiance to any fora (according to owner). Le Pub has increased it's patronage by association with 24/7 but both Phil's place and the Rockhouse no doubt survive due location and the popularity of the service given. When the hosts are around they do well. Both Le Pub and Rockhouse seem to have done ok while others fade into nostalgic history.

  5. That is the definitive post on the downward spiral of the best and most successful forum on Pattaya and the goings on in Thailand. I have always subscribed to the notion "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" The original "down-grade" was a complete and utter shambles. The move from the original server was a disaster and the weeks of downtime lost the forum countless members and our "beautiful very functional site " was lost forever replaced by a complete dog's breakfast.

  6. EP, over the many years I've been on different forums both LOS and PI, one thing is very clear BMs that are from USA have no idea what banter between Australian and and the English BMs is all about.. even on one board ran by a very selective USA owner/mod,once accused me of being a racist, because I used words like poms, pommies, yanks or Sepos. shit that is like waving a red flag at a bull. there as been a long, long history of banter/bullshit/shitstirring between aussies and poms/jocks boyos/paddies me! I reckon our USA bms should stay away from the banter between us non USA BMs,that way the USA BMs will not get all hot and bothered. ME! I love the craic/banter/bullshit/stirring between and the English bastards that sent my ancestors in convict ships to the greatest country in the world AUSTRALIA home of meat pies, football, holden cars and kangaroos. HOW SWEET IT IS. regards grayray

  7. With out proper promotion at that location stands no chance IMO its a dank dark Soi with no other real action on it used mostly to get to walking street. Secrets was always a Destination location guys planned on going there and that was due to the forum for the most part. The amount of guys that walked past and said hey lets check this place out was minimal for sure. We all have our opinions and this is mine

  9. A forum is only as good, or as bad, as it's members and Secrets had an amazing cast of characters. For years it just kept getting better and better. It was a true mongers board with photos and trip reports to rival any forum out there. But as the years passed and the original cast of characters ( for what ever reason ) started to pull away, it started to change direction. To me, two of the biggest events that shook Secrets was ( #1 ) the loss of Larry as manager and how the entire episode surrounding it was handled by Ben. The second was when up2u2 came on as a moderator and lost direction as to what that job is supposed to entail. His actions alone earned him a spot on the most devastating blows to Secrets Forum and its membership. It also got him The Most Hated Mod of All Time Award. It was a shame really because IRL he was a great guy to hang around with. Despite the fact that we got a top notch Mod Team after that fiasco, it seemed that the damage was done. Once again, " to me " it seemed that the death blow was delivered by none other than the owner himself, by chopping away at what was once the best forum out there. The final straw was bringing in Taptalk. Now Secrets Forum is dead. Very sad to see how this once great enterprise was poisoned from the inside and allowed to die away by he who owned it. But as many have said, it was his to do with as he wanted and so be it.

  11. What a time to be alive, eh! A disintegrating Tory Party taken over by a small band of Right Wing Extremists who think they can do as they choose. An equally dysfunctional Labour Party being taken over by dangerous Far Left Lunatics. All this is a time when the UK hasn't seen such uncertainty since the 2nd World War. And you wouldn't trust a single one of them to run a bath, much less a Government in these times. It's riveting stuff alright, just have to buckle up and watch with the amazement, as this continues to unfold. Great entertainment!

  13. I disagree. I can’t speak for the likes page of my business as it is open to the general public but on my own Facebook page I review every friend request I have to see if they are either a customer I know or in some way connected to Thailand. I have some 3,000 friends, almost all are customers or potential customers. I can have fun on there, so a bit of marketing but also show a human side. I can buy targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram which are, geometric, sex specific and age specific and those ads are not expensive. I love forums as I hope my contributions to this one and others show but FB, Instagram and Google Business are the future.

  14. Secrets forum was the reason for me ever coming to Thailand in late 2006 with a view to settling down here in my retirement, it was a wealth of info and thats why i always felt loyalty to the bar and would always visit when in Pattaya and i made some great friends who not surprisingly are still great friends today. So FB and the like are not capable of doing the same job, in which case i fear for Scotters future.

  20. Gives you a chance to immediately post on the forum about how underwhelmed you were. Personally, I would just like to remember how many great nights I enjoyed over the past 13 years in the company of so many friends I had made in Secrets both directly and through the forum. Secrets is not even a shadow of its past. Unfortunately the same can be said of Pattaya's nightlife as a whole. Empty bars and Gogo's has become the norm with a small handful being the exception. I reckon I saw the best with the likes of Catz, Bouchee, Peppermint, Living Dolls, FLB, BabyDolls etc etc. Virtually all hands on and flashing piss flaps. Plus of course Soi's 6,7 and 8 in their prime. They also saw the best of me! Or was it the worst?

  25. Khun C, worked down there on major constructions on/off over 30yrs a place I either loved or hated, loved the harbour and beach areas, not much on the inner city suburbs, only if I was getting a leg over. they ladies where easy, some of the harbour pubs could be backs to the wall at times, but I loved the life. not a great deal of racism, well maybe the indigerous or Indian uni students may see it different i was married to a black lady and seen some directed towards her,but she was no shrinking violet, soon seen saw that off. some great pub bands was about in the 60s70s80s,all the top Aussie bands at one time or another played pubs in the top cities all over OZ. shit! Pump hope Larry understands I was doing some shit stirring? earlier in this thread regards grayray

  33. @grayray, Agreed. It is not only on forums, some "discussions" between American on a financial website I am on are just hilarious when politics come up. And even on much simpler subjects... A 2 min look at FOX and CNN will just confirm that....

  39. This....The original web site was fantastic...It was a beautiful very functional site...With each up-grade more like down-grade the site kept getting worse....At the end it was that Tap-Talk rubbish, worst forum I have ever seen on the internet..... The Secrets forum fell apart about the same pace the Secrets bar fell apart... Honestly I bet Bens delighted to not have a forum now...

  42. Meanwhile the little old lady is back on her feet again. So she went into the headquarters of a large national bank, dragging a large bag behind her. She insisted that she must speak with the president of the bank to open a savings account because, “It’s a lot of money!” After much hemming and hawing, the bank staff finally ushered her into the president’s office (the customer is always right!). The bank president then asked her how much she would like to deposit. She replied, “$ 165,000!” and dumped the cash out of her bag onto the desk. The president was of course curious as to how she came by all this cash, so he asked her, “Ma’am. I’m surprised you’re carrying so much cash around. Where did you get this money?” The old lady replied, “I make bets.” The president then asked, “Bets? What kind of bets?” The old woman said, “Well, for example, I’ll bet you $ 25,000 that your balls are square.” “Ha!” laughed the president, “That’s a stupid bet. You can never win that kind of bet!” The old lady challenged, “So, would you like to take my bet?” “Sure,” said the president, “I’ll bet $ 25,000 that my balls are not square!” The little old lady then said, “Okay, but since there is a lot of money involved, may I bring my lawyer with me tomorrow at 10:00 AM as a witness?” “Sure!” replied the confident president. That night, the president got very nervous about the bet and spent a long time in front of a mirror checking his balls, turning from side to side, again and again. He thoroughly checked them out until he was sure that there was absolutely no way his balls were square and that he would win the bet. The next morning, at precisely 10:00 AM, the little lady appeared with her lawyer at the president’s office. She introduced the lawyer to the president and repeated the bet: “$ 25,000 says the president’s balls are square!” The president agreed with the bet again and the old lady asked him to drop his pants so they could all see. The president complied. The little old lady peered closely at his balls and then asked if she could feel them. “Well, Okay,” said the president, “$ 25,000 is a lot of money, so I guess you should be absolutely sure.” Just then, he noticed that the lawyer was quietly banging his head against the wall. The president asked the old lady, “What the heck’s the matter with your lawyer?” “Nothing,” she answered, “except I bet him $ 100,000 that at 10:00 AM today, I’d have the president of this bank’s balls in my hands.”

  43. There is nothing worse than a Doctor's Receptionist who insists you tell her what is wrong with you in a room full of other patients. I know most of us have experienced this, and I love the way this guy handled it. A 65-year-old man walked into a crowded waiting room and approached the desk. The Receptionist said, 'Yes sir, what are you seeing the Doctor for today?' 'There's something wrong with my dick', he replied. The receptionist became irritated and said, 'You shouldn't come into a crowded waiting room and say things like that. ' 'Why not, you asked me what was wrong and I told you,' he said. The Receptionist replied; 'Now you've caused some embarrassment in this room full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.' The man replied, 'You shouldn't ask people questions in a roomful of strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone. The man walked out, waited several minutes, and then re-entered. The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, 'Yes??' 'There's something wrong with my ear,' he stated. The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her advice.. 'And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?' 'I can't piss out of it,' he replied.
