  3. Personally I think that Secrets was a combination of so many factors, including the forum, the regulars (many of whom lived in town at the time), the initial lineup of chicks, Soi 7, the lower cost of alcohol (before the several tax hikes lately), the relatively-good world economy, the far-smaller number of bars competing for business and chicks than today, etc., that it couldn't be repeated. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think I am.

  4. Non active members in the VIP section will be demoted out of the VIP section to the lower levels.. We have the VIP section so members can post freely but some VIP members don't login or post for months on end which is stopping new and up coming new member that post on the forum day in and day out. The 4 members I removed from VIP into the open forum section have a very low post count and have been given access to the VIP section and in my book don't play the game. So if you don't login or make any post over 60 days you will be considered for removal of the VIP status.

  6. I worked with a guy in Birmingham who when his moody Rolex watch stopped working he took it into "Watches of Switzerland" to get the battery changed. We pissed ourselves laughing at how stupid he had been as they promptly confiscated the watch.

  8. I bought a gold and diamond-encrusted Rolex many years ago on Jomtien Beach for 1000 Baht. It looks fabulous and keeps excellent time, but you have to wind it up three or four times a day or it just stops dead. I still wear it to weddings and the suchlike when I'm back in the UK, nice to see people's jaws drop when they see it, lol.

  9. Been out of touch with things lately, lots going on at the moment keeping me out of the loop. Sad to see the bar going downhill. Was a massive draw back in the early days in particular. Loved staying in the hotel and knowing one of the best bars around was downstairs. The loss of the board must be a big impact. That's not to say other things are part of it too of course. So many learned about the bar and Pattaya in general through the board. I hope if it does re launch it goes well this time. Hope the hotel carries on too.

  12. Well, I have now access to Netflix in Bali. My DVD player is connected to the net, so I can watch Youtube vids on the TV. Proudly switching it on to show my technical skills to my son, and he goes "Hey you have Netflix also ?" Me : Yeah, I have the logo but no subscription Him : Never mind, use mine ! Me : Yours is in France ! No problem, digs up his phone, launches the app, type in his password, and there we go. Told me he can have 6 different connections, so it should be ok. So today I tried again, and visibly it works ! Binge watch the whole S1 of "The Bodyguard" ! And visibly I escape the Indo censorship as well !

  13. Almost a exact year to the day I was walking up Pattaya Thai and I left my place without my watch forgot it. Well my phone can tell me the time as well but I feel naked without a watch on so passed a vendor saw this watch I liked the look of it so figured what the hell. Since the day i got it the battery is still good and it loses no time perfect. Never had to reset it once. Band in great shape as well. I know most of the time you get what you pay for in this case I got lucky.

  14. No plastic bag ever threw itself into the sea, society is the culprit. Banning bags has become fashionable as folk climb on the do-gooder bandwagon but it merely forces other bags to be purchased to dispose of waste, carry wet goods etc, so no net gain except to the bag manufacturers' and sellers' profits. Next year it'll be something else that Greta and her mates decides is bad with no actual thought process of the big picture.

  15. Here's one for North Americans: homemade pork corn dogs from Tigglebitties Tavern. I ordered them (100 baht each) for delivery and added a slice of apple pie for 80 baht to clear the free-delivery threshold at 250 baht. A corn dog is a hot dog sausage on a stick that has been dipped in a cornmeal batter and deep fried. It's a relatively new entry into the U.S. fast-food pantheon, having been invented in the late 1930s or early1940s. One story credits a hot dog vendor who had missed the delivery of buns and decided to coat them with batter used for frying fish. The stick was added so customers could eat them on the go. Like the hamburger and hot dog, the corn dog was first sold at fairs and carnivals. Tigglebitties' corn dogs were excellent. A good-quality hot dog had been used, covered with a light layer of cornmeal and properly fried to golden brown. It came with ketchup and U.S. ballpark mustard. It was the perfect food to trigger memories of visits to state and county fairs in my childhood. Corn dogs aren't on Tigglebitties' regular menu, but appear from time-to-time as a daily special. That's just as well, as corn dogs aren't exactly health food. They're waist-expanding and artery-clogging, with about 40% of the 330-calorie count coming from fat. I have them a few times a year as a treat. I doubt I'd schlep out to Soi Regional Land just for a corn dog, but home delivery got them to me in 20 minutes. And I didn't make my meal any healthier with a piece of apple pie, but it is the quintessential American dessert that I long for on occasion. Tigglebitties offers the best apple pie I've had in Pattaya. The crust is light and flaky and the filling isn't too sweet. Bottom line: Tigglebitties is one of the best options in Pattaya for American favorites at reasonable prices. Home delivery makes it hard to resist the temptation. You can check out the daily specials and delivery menu at https://www.hotmeals2u.com. Delivery is available from 8.30 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Evil

  19. I applied for a new one on the 20th December. They said it would take three weeks. It arrived on the 4th January. It's red without the EU logo, but that's very good service, given the christmas/new year break.

  28. When I read this earlier I thought who is he ???? Nota clue not into all that haunted bollocks. I'm still sad about Martin Peters saw him so many times West Ham mainly ........ not read much about his genius at the near post cross. Right wing Redknapp or Geoff Hurst subtle flick .......... and once saw from the left wing think it was Johnny Sissons did the cross ......... wonderful player. Never quite did it at Spurs but won the World cup so hey ........... RIP. Far too young ........

  35. Yes, I agree, they are a disaster for nature, and possibly for humanity too if thr microplastics get into our food chain and have unpredictably nasty effects. But the same can be said of a lot of things, and the answer isn't necessarily to ban them. Fully responsible government and corporation run recycling programmes, and hang the expense, might be a better option. After all, many of us, in the West at least, dispose of our plastic waste responsibly, it's hardly our fault if the contractors that local councils use to "recycle" it end up simply dumping it somewhere. I personally am a libertarian and I loathe the modern tendency of many people to want to micromanage other people's lives just because they think they know best. And the trend to simply ban anything that offends the woke PC brigade is little short of fascism. Just remember, the biggest disaster for plant Earth and nature is mankind, and so far nobody's suggesting banning us, but the day may come, lol.

  37. Secrets Hotel remains totally unaffected by the goings on in the bar and will apparently continue to do so. I am told that the nice young man remains expeditiously responding to email inquiries at [email protected]. Fully booked today with many returning customers during this period.

  38. Tree Town sort of continues. Quiet in the afternoon but I understand it gets busier in the evening. I don't know if/whether this structure (above) will ever be completed. A lot suggested that this place would fail, however whilst I have never seen it busy, I have never seen it empty. Chunky Monkey - never empty.
