  3. Today's update on the shrinking Mabprachan Reservoir. As before, here's the Google Earth view of today's route and picture taking spots. Pic 01: Not much movement, if any of the shoreline from the last update 12 days ago. Pic 02: However definitely more land that was previously underwater is now exposed. Pic 04 They now have a pump ready to pupmp water over a land bridge so the pumping station farther north has access to what's left of the main body of trapped water. Guessing the water level is down another 1/2 meter from 12 days ago. Pic 05: Won't be long before that spit of land in the distance becomes a land bridge all the way across the north end of the reservoir. On the left side of the pic you can see how the main body of water is now cutoff from the channel that leads to the pump station by another land bridge heading to the north. I don't know why they don't get an excavator in and cut a channel through rather than pumping the water over. Pic 06: Since the channel into the pumping station is now on higher ground than the main body of water to the south, they had to build a retaining wall and now have to pump the water into the pond. The gate was unlocked so had a peak at the pumps in the pumping station. Pic 07 Pic 08 Pic 09: A few puddles of water left on the north end, but no way to get it to the pumping station. Pic 10 Pic 11 Pic 12 Pic 13 Pic 14: If I had wanted to, I could have rode my mtn bike from this side of the reservoir over to the other side using the land bridge in the center of this pic. Pic 15: Instead I rode out the spit of land a bit farther south. View to the north while standing on land that was underwater 12 days ago. For comparison, pic 19 in the screenshot below was how far I could ride my bike out on 28 January. Pic 16: The intake water line for the retention pond on the southwest corner of the reservoir is really having to extend out to get to the main body of water now. Pic 17: I was told by someone that lives in the area this retention pond and pump house is used to supply water to the new Flowerland tourist trap. Probably in another month or so all the tourists will see for their entrance fee is a bunch of wilted flowers.

  4. I received a whatsapp message from a Canadian friend of mine earlier today (Sunday) who spends 4 months each winter in Thailand, rents an apt in Central Patts but travels around the country while there, and he told me that the beach was very light with tourists and the boats that sit in Pattaya Bay that take tourists to the islands, are currently sitting empty without all the Chinese. He said they have virtually disappeared at the moment. While it must be nice as a western expat or tourist to have the beach to themselves and much less pedestrian traffic to negotiate on the Beach Road, it can't be a very good feeling to all the vendors who earn a living in large part from catering to the Chinese tourists who make up much of their customer base. But I would hope that the tourist board, or whatever government agency is in charge of promoting Thailand tourism, decides to make an all out effort to bring in the western tourist as they will actually spread around their spending cash into a variety of Thai hands rather than the consentrated number of folks who make their money from the organized tours of Chinese tour groups.

  5. All will be well with the Shopping Centre. The owners and powers to be will bring in the head Monk along with a few hundred more and have a big cleansing ceremony to rid the complex of any ghost and declare it ghost free. All this will be televised live..... and all will be happy … and business will continue as usual. I would not be surprised if after that..... some will travel from other provinces to shop there and get the standard selfie. The place will survive for sure. cheers

  12. Yea Bro ... I guess in a certain way I don't blame Beach Gal for being "consumed" .. she really is a pretty innocent gal ... it still amazes me how we ended up together ... the "bad" guy and the "good girl " -- lol ..... but, I am serious when I say that ..... Ziggy .. for sure .. doesn't need to start asking me questions about shit like that ( because I cannot give her any reasonable answer ) and she is a curious little soul ... man ... the questions I get now .. lol .. lol .. lol Better this way for me and Ziggy .. anyway ... that is the standard part of our day to hit the beach and get out on the sea .... I am going to miss that time we spend together when she starts school ....

  13. Just returned from my morning walk.0800 to 0900 . So much more pleasant without the Chinese clogging the place up. Only counted 4 parasails. To early for the Indians to be up and about. My friend lives in North Pattaya near a 400 room hotel catering for Chinese tour groups. No buses, no customers, will probably have to close until this is over. Shouldn't really affect the bars as mostly the Chinese don't frequent the bars that many BMs do

  15. if in 3 months time they all suddenly get well again, and we have a med to prevent it, which i dont believe, then the travel would start. by then the year is a write off at a loss even if hotels and amusement venues are busy after that.. they should be mrketing to the west for sure.. the forgotten tourist, but that too taskes time for the cogs to grinf. the city , sorry the country, iis in a dire state right now for the year. phuke i is dead. pattaya has more fo a chance because of the weekend BKK ians fleeing to get away and we are close. the drought hasnt hit the city yet which is good but the hot season has already started, early this year. lets hope we get heavy monsoons , the chinsk all get better and 2021 is a better year.. else there is going to be caranage business wise

  17. Pretty easy to understand .. fucking sicko's Beach Gal watched this shit on TV and the internet all day ( she was consumed ) ... she kept telling me to watch this and that ... dead people ... I took Ziggy outside the door and strolled about 75 yards to the sea and hung out there most of the day ... I think the building where this happened are "doomed" after this catastrophe .. you know Thais and their ghosts ....

  21. "..so this was a life changing loss to him" And a life ending loss for the innocent victims. The blame lies solely on the shooter IMO. Candy coating it as he was screwed over by the government justifed his actions? I am not buying it.

  22. Theres always more to a story. He was diddled out of 400,000bt over a house purchase from his boss, thats why he shot him and the motherinlaw. He lost the money and never got the house. He tried to get his money back through the more usual channels but his boss was too powerful and no one could or would help him. He wasn,t from a rich family so this was a life changing loss to him. He would have known he was to die himself so was probably making a message for worldwide mefia attention hence the Facebook posts. RIP for all the poor innocent folk who lost their lives and commiserations to their families but this incident in my opinion is down to Thailands corrupt society and the misuse of power that the current government are supposed to be stamping out. 23. Emerald blue, crystal clear water, white powder-fine sand, dense jungle on one side and islands at a distance - Tanjung Rhu Beach is without any doubt the best among the beaches of Langkawi. And, a cherry on top, it's not crowded! the area is absolutely secluded and the atmosphere is silent and peaceful. At around 11 am in the morning, we went to visit the beach and it was too hot at that time. Generally, the weather in Langkawi is hot throughout the year, and on such a sunny day with scorching heat from top, it became too difficult for us to even attempt a maiden stroll at the shoreline 😞So, recommendation for all of you, who can not bear the heat and hot temperature, please do visit this amazing beach at early hours of the day i.e. early morning or just before sunset. And, OMG! can you imagine how it would be like to witness sun-set on a scenic beach view like this 🙂We wish, we had that in mind and scheduled our visit accordingly 😞 but nevertheless, more reasons to comeback to Langkawi again 🙂Tanjung Rhu Beach is a public beach, open 24 hours and entry is free for everyone. Part of the beach is private and separated by a fence, belonging to Tanjung Rhu Resorts. There are few shops, cafe's and restaurants on the beach and you can find small huts, umbrellas, bean bags and benches there with all sort of hot and cold beverages, smoothies and shakes, snacks and local Malaysian cuisine. We recommend you to try the delicious Coconut Ice Cream Shake at this beach, because that was one of the best shakes we had in Malaysia.

  24. There was a large unisex hairdressers in Hua Hin back in 2001 on the main drag. I took my brother in law there for a beard trim and a haircut. There were several floor level Koi Carp ponds inside, with narrow walkways you had to negotiate to get to the chairs. Brother in law who is 6ft 6 and built like the proverbial outhouse, fell in one of the ponds and the splash soaked pretty much everyone in the place. Needless to say they gave us a discount on our haircuts. He saw the funny side of it and my sister almost pissed herself laughing when we got back to the house and she saw him. 🤣

  27. I've been involved in aircraft maintenance for a very long time & there is a shear pin in the towing arm which will break if say the aircraft brakes are on,to save damage to the nose leg. For that reason there should always be someone riding brakes should the shear pin go.I've done it & been there when it's happened. Either there was nobody on brakes, there was someone & he/she was asleep or playing with their smartphone or there was no hydraulic pressure to the brakes.

  32. Just found out this morning that my temporary wife's (lives in Sida) nephew was shot in the leg fleeing the store he worked in at the mall. He is one of the hospitalized. Luckily it's only a flesh wound with no bone damage. All he said was that it was "mayhem" and refuses to go into any detail. (shock I suppose)

  34. Just decided to take a taxi to my local bars as it's past midnight and I was in an area I wasn't familiar with. Plus I am quite drunk. So glad I did as at the top of the road was a big f**k off king cobra. Right where I would have been walking. The taxi driver dropped the window for me to see it. A reminder just how wild Thailand can be at times. It's a tuk tuk ride home for me tonight.
