  1. I have had this small "growth" on my right shoulder for well over 5 years. It is neither a wart or a mole and looks more like a "cauliflower" shape. It was about the size of the end part of a finger and has never bothered me until I recently caught it with a "sponge on a rope" in the shower and made it bleed. We visited Bangsaray and Pattaya this week and on impulse I decided to get it removed. As it seemed to me a fairly simple procedure we discounted going to BPH or Pattaya International and make use of the local government Hospital near to Bangsaray itself. BPH would have probably amputated my right arm and presented me with a bill for a million baht. We visited on Tuesday and waited a couple of hours in a suitably socially distanced waiting room to see a doctor. An inspection by that doctor was followed by an appointment for 2:00pm for the next day to have it removed by the visiting "specialist" who probably works most of the week at BPH or Pattaya International. I was presented with a bill for the consultation and blood pressure check............... 50 baht. That is not a missprint. The next day at 2.15pm I am taken through to their A & E department, partially disrobe and told to lay down where I am fussed over by a couple of nurses. The doctor arrives and soon has all the nurses in stitches if you will excuse the pun. All very professional after that and several local injections later I feel no pain. About 15 minutes later and 6 actual stitches in me it is all finished. I collect antibiotics and pain killers and a follow up appointment to have the stitches removed I also am handed the account for the treatment and medication........................... 470 baht. There was also an additional 500 baht to pay for the speciment to be sent for checking at pathology in Bangkok for malignancy/cancer. I was speaking to my daughter in Scotland last night and she was amazed that I had seen the Doctor one day and had the treatment the next. Louise said I would probably have had to wait 6 months for an appointment at a UK hospital.

  7. Yep ... was this a public or private hospital ? This is what I know consulting/working for the largest private hospital group in Thailand for over 15 years here ... They are very serious about the quality of care they provide ... good doctors, nurses and equipment .... plus, pretty fucking good software .. most of the English speaking Doctors went to med school in the USA ( not saying this is good or bad ) My last experiment in the hospital was at a public hospital in the deep South .. something bit me ( I think a spider ) on the inside of my foot ... it swelled up as big as a football ... hurt like f**k ... I went for 7 days straight and they gave me an IV full of antibiotics ... and a couple of shots in my foot and I was ok after about maybe 3 weeks later .... I could not believe how big my foot swelled up and after the swelling finally went down the entire skin of my foot just peeled off in thick chunks .... The doctors and facilities here are very good ...

  8. We did a 662 klm drive yesterday from Bangsaray to Mae Sot. There were a total of 6 police/army check points at which we were waived through the first 5 without comment and only stopped at the very last one which is no more than 10 minutes from Mae Sot itself. This is an army manned permanant check point and they had local nurses on hand doing temperature checks only. Sai is worried about the stigma of us potentially being the second and third individuals to prove positive for Covid19 in Mae Sot so I am on a 7 day self isolation period but I did sneak out at 07:00am this morning to take the dogs for a walk. I was masked up and the dogs will not rat me out! 🤣

  9. Apparently there have been posts on social media indicating the Pattaya Beer Garden near the start of WS had closed permanently. I sent a message to the owner, Pattaya Pete, and asked about this. Pete responded it's his intention to "carry on" with the Pattaya Beer Garden, but the lease is expiring and he is in negotiations with the landlord regarding the terms. "Negotiations are in progress and I do not yet know the final outcome," he wrote. Best of luck to Pete in getting the terms he requires to keep the PBG going. The news that the beer bars in front of the PBG had been razed was reported several weeks ago. Pete posted at that time on Pattaya Talk: "They are being remodeled by the owner." Evil

  14. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be resisted. The state and big tech have already proven that they can't be trusted with our data, they know too much already, 1984 doesn't even come close. The old mantra is always trotted out, 'well if you don't do anything wrong you have nothing to be worried about', doesn't cut it with me. I don't trust the fuckers one bit.

  19. It's the same here in Northern Ireland. You have to phone between 8:30am and 10am, a doctor will then call you back. If you need to be seen in person then it is a 4-6 week wait. You can't criticise the NHS because it has now become a religion in the UK. The truth is that the NHS is broken, and no longer fit for purpose, massive changes need to be made.

  21. Tom Cotton: 'No question' Chinese officials pressured WHO to downplay coronavirus World Health Organization denies China sought to delay global warning By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Sunday, May 10, 2020 Sen. Tom Cotton, Arkansas Republican, said Sunday there was “no question” that Chinese officials pressured the World Health Organization to downplay the risks of the novel coronavirus after it originated in Wuhan. His comments came after the German newspaper Der Spiegel reported Saturday that Chinese president Xi Jinping urged WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to delay a global warning on the disease in a Jan. 21 phone call, which the organization denied. “I don’t know about all the specific details of those reports, but there’s no question that Xi Jinping and senior officials in the Chinese Communist Party were pressuring the WHO all the way back to December to undersell the risk of this virus,” said Mr. Cotton on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” “They knew in China early on, probably as early as the early days of December, and that this virus was both highly contagious in humans and very deadly for certain people. Yet they wanted to save face,” he said. In a statement, WHO denied the “false allegations” in the Der Spiegel report, which, citing German intelligence, said the Chinese leader also asked Mr. Tedros to hold back information on human-to-human transmission. “Reports of a 21 Jan phone call between @DrTedros & President Xi are unfounded & untrue,” said WHO in a tweet. “They didn’t speak on 21 Jan & have never spoken by [phone]. Such inaccurate reports distract & detract from WHO’s & the [world’s] efforts to end #COVID19.” The organization has been accused by Republicans of exacerbating the crisis by covering up for the Chinese, which WHO officials have denied, and waiting until March 11 to declare a pandemic. In a now-infamous Jan. 14 tweet, WHO said, “Preliminary investigations conducted by Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus.” “In addition to saving face, they wanted once they realized this virus was going to cripple their own economy, that it did not remain limited to China,” Mr. Cotton said. “So the WHO has some real answers to provide to the world about why they bowed to Chinese pressure throughout December and January, and turned what could have been a local health emergency in Wuhan into a global pandemic.” (LINK)

  30. fair enough mate ...personal experience .either positive or negative will inevitably colour an individuals perspective and I'm delighted you were well served..but it is anectodal evidence Scientific data at a population level however suggests the NHS lags behind other comparable countries in terms of health outcomes I wish it were not so ,but you have to follow the evidence painful though that may be because it challenges our preconceptions That is why we have comapative studies to find this shit out because there is no way to evaluate it if you go by personal experience alone in small numbers ...widespread community evaluation is required If the NHS was the best in class by evidence dont you think the pollies would be broadcasting it?They havn't ,never have, for fear of being called out.So they dress it up as NHS heros ..which they are of course, but those workers are unwittingly a political tool for a substandard health system Its a very sad and untruthful state of affairs

  32. You cannot see a Doctor in Scotland. They call you back when you call the surgery. I've been trying to see one for over two Months because of blood pressure and a slipped disk in my back. They just prescribe whatever you want to keep you happy. Take your word on bp levels. No chance would you have seen any Doctor in Scotland.

  35. Did you mean Yuasa? A quality flooded cell lead acid battery should last about 20 years when operated at 25°C. Each 10°C rise in temperature halves that. Where to most motorcycle batteries sit, fairly close to the engine. Vibrating the shit out of them in a motor vehicle doesn't do them much good either. Neither does deep cycle discharge/charging. If you can afford it, go for an AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery. Twice the price for twice the life so you don't gain much there but it doubles the time between changing batteries.

For sure, be great to meet up at Phil's place and have a few drinks for your dad, my mum and if Aqualung can come for his mum too. Plus any other BM's as they've undoubtedly lost someone at some point. A remembrance piss up sounds great, let's do it. I'll let all you BM's know when I'll be in town so hopefully that fits with y'all and we can co-ordinate the piss up of all piss ups.

  37. So here they tried to make domestic travel complicated by requesting medical certificate, authorisation from city hall, employer etc.... Result (from Indo forum) : "So basically, mudik ban is at this point non-existent. They only added a few layers of bureaucracy, and all it managed to do is make travelling even more miserable. Not to mention more crowded and rife for disease transmission." Domestic terminal Jakarta :

  38. China and South Korea .... Thailand is a puppet to China with the China Belt Road initiative ... billions and billions of baht ... Why? Because there are dirt poor people here ( cheap labor ) and gals that will do anything for 1K baht ... a baht hungry nation with leadership that is questionable at best ... Another nation that believes in "face" and baht over anything else

  39. Can't help laughing when I read this.... How many times we read or heard the same stuff.... https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1917576/cp-chief-pushes-tourism-reboot Mr Dhanin proposed the government attract high-spending tourists from across the world by highlighting Thailand's success in containing the spread of Covid-19. ...... "This reflects the fact that our doctors and hospitals are the best and we need to tell the world about it," he said. ..... He said the government should take advantage of Thailand's low Covid-19 figures and turn the kingdom into a "safe haven" for wealthy individuals from around the world. "If we can make rich people feel confident that staying in Thailand is safer than their own countries then they will come." He said now is the time for Thailand to shift its tourism image from "quantity to quality". ..... Note : the comments section is worth a read as well !
