  3. This month's update on the Mabprachan Reservoir. Weeds are higher Water level unchanged Weeds now poking up in the shallow areas Pumps are gone A few dead tree pics The spring fed stream is still flowing Used to be able to ride the bike across the lake bed at this point. Need a machete now to get through. There are some nice, quiet, scenic shady spots on the trails around the reservoir. A sea of green

  4. Then again, bikers with mad skills can still have fun here in the States. They know the parameters. Check out the chick doing the wheelie in the beginning of the vid. Brilliant. Ok sorry, back to age.

  6. The wife and MIL are already planning our next visit to them, if and when all this Covid travel ban is lifted. First is a month or so in Italy at our place in the hills near Florence. Far enough from the madding crowd, with a cellar full of wines and local food readily available in mom & pop restaurants and no trips to the city. That’ll do nicely. 🙂 Then onto a month or so in Thailand and straight to the farm in Nakhon Sawon, again, way out in the sticks. Rolling hills, cool breezes, a river that runs through the farm to bathe in, fruit, vegetables and livestock growing all around us on the farm and local shops around 2 miles away and no bars. Heaven. 🤗 l can understand your frustration @Jambo, but for us, piece and quite is what we love best and luckily, unlike yourself, her family are fantastic people to be with. Can’t wait. 👍

  7. I hold no love for the arrogant asshole and think he should go, but these “journalists” and “photographers” are an ugly group. Iv’e seen packs of feral dogs in Thailand better behaved than that lot. 🤔

  8. It turned out much better than what I did before, the chicken was so tender and the flavour from the gravy was lovely. Will definitely do this again with similar ingredients.

  10. It seems to me that Governments the world over are generally trying their best to combat the effects of Covid19. They find themselves in an unprecidented situation and are making the rules up as they go along and not helped by so called "experts" who unfortunately all too often seem to take the same approach making up the "science" as they go along. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they do not but they are (mostly) all trying to get it right. The UK Government is no different and is trying to do what they believe is best for the nation. They quite plainly do not always succeed but they are getting a lot more right than they get wrong. Would Labour had done any better? How can we ever know because they rarely if ever offer any real alternatives or praise even when it is due. They just look for any reason to criticise and pick holes and The Guardian Newspaper is carrying out a non-stop campaign of criticising everything and anything the Government does. Is Cummings a plonker? Probably, but Johnson obviously considers him an important advisor to the Government otherwise he would and probably should have sacked him. If I was Johnson I would, to use a fine Scottish expression, tell'm all to "get-ta-f**k". 😀

  11. I don't normally drink midweek, but it is the first anniversary of my mum passing. So I have opened one of my finest bottles of red wine to toast her life. Bless her. 🍾

  12. Absolutely 😁 But they're not in power so it's pointless. As is going down the "what aboutary" or leavers v remoaners, right v looney left roads. We have the governments who we voted for and IMHO we should hold them to account when they f**k up. It's a fundamental right in a free society.

  14. I thought I would have another play with the slow cooker. A couple of chicken breasts thrown in with some onion and a packet mix. A squirt of garlic and tomatoe puree. It's starting to smell nice!

  15. You have to remember that for Labour to have done any better it would mean that they won the last election and Corbyn & Abbott would've been in charge....

  16. For those interested in a bit of off road riding, there are some nice paths around Mabprachan Reservoir on the west and north sides. The screenshot below are tracks from various rides I've made over the years around the reservoir. The area parallel to the dam is primarily eucalyptus trees with trails that are hard packed and easy to negotiate. While the area on the north side of the reservoir is a good mix of service roads, hard packed trail, and narrow single track.

  18. It was another recipe from the dreaded YouTube. Included stock, tomato puree, garlic, various herbs.... It was supposed to be cooked on low for 8 hours. However after 2 hours I wasn't smelling anything and found a slight user error..... I hadn't plugged it in! Cooked it for 3 hours on high and 3 on low instead...

  24. Apparently it is so called because the majority of ice cream merchants in the fifties were Italian. The King of Italy had an elite bodyguard consisting of 99 men. So anything elite was called 99s by Italians. So they called the elite ice cream a 99.

  25. I have a weakness for ice cream too! I don't tend to allow myself to indulge as I am trying to loose weight. However I did flag down an ice cream van last week whilst out on a 7 mile walk and treated myself to the largest 99 that he did.

  26. They surrendered at the first sound of gunfire from the British navy and reached an understanding. Not colonised. Ahem They surrendered to the Japanese and reached an understanding to let them march wherever they wanted. Not colonised of course. Ahem. My favourite Thai story was after Pearl Harbour 1941. Thai ambassador went to the White House with a declaration of hostilities siding with the Japanese as allies. After the war they said it had not been signed properly so no war existed no problems no reparations and bad Communists to fight now....... Next China as they say in Afghanistan ......

  28. It just shows the arrogance of the Thai government. They think that just because they're demanding silly certificates and impossible holiday cover, other countries will jump and change their medical and insurance systems. They can't understand that they're just not that important in the grand scheme of things (even if they are the only country in SE Asia that was never colonised by the evil British and perfidious French, blah, blah, blah, you've heard it all before a million times).

  30. Was there today and it was very busy..There seemed to be a lot of buying. Went a couple of weekends ago to the Weekend market and only about 50% of the vendors where there but heard past weekend was much better. Not very crowded but did have people buying. As far as SRT debt Chatuchuk and other lands they have markets on ,is just some extra cash the have to spend around as tribute. Past couple of months with vendors not paying rent , the Chatuchak operators could not send it upstairs. The real debt is a trap set by their B&RI (china) friends.

  32. If only there were more MPs who believed in honour and integrity. Quote from BBC Mr Ross, who remains Conservative MP for Moray, said: "While the intentions may have been well meaning, the reaction to this news shows that Mr Cummings' interpretation of the government advice was not shared by the vast majority of people who have done as the government asked. "I have constituents who didn't get to say goodbye to loved ones; families who could not mourn together; people who didn't visit sick relatives because they followed the guidance of the government. "I cannot in good faith tell them they were all wrong and one senior adviser to the government was right." If DC would of held up his hands and said I f***d up to protect my family, I am sorry, here is my resignation. He just might of earned a bit of respect and would more than likely be back playing Rod Hull to bojo's emu within a couple of months. Instead of that we have had 4 days of bollocks when there really are way more important things to focus on.

  33. It's good to read that we are still coping and that as far as we know, none of our members have died as a result of the virus Stayin' alive is what it's all about and hopefuliy we won't have ride this shit for too much longer. It's come as a bit of a body now especially for older members of society and those at a higher risk When this is all over and we can get back to normality I think I will certainly appreciate more, many of the things that I once took for granted. Since losing a lot of weight, I am now 32 inch waist again. I need complete new wardrobe and can't wait to be able to buy a load of new clothes in the normal sizes rather than xxx. But obviously I am still going to dress for my age . I also want to have a nice suit made. I have a feeling that I maybe attending some funerals in the near future. But,dress a little younger, feel a little younger perhaps

  34. Concerning motorbikes, never rode one in my life (well yes a Moped at 15), and sure would never have tried it in Thailand (or VN, or here). When I arrived here I noted there were quite a bit of Vespa's around, and I went "well, that looks cool, very 60's / 70, I would look good on this .." But the Miss went "do you really think its a good idea to start learning driving a Vespa in Bali at 65 ?" And she was right, so forget the idea... Would still have looked cool, with her on the back, Miss Saigon style.... OK, back to old age !

  35. All my fault too. Too much alcohol. Right arm for me. I had been in WS and was somewhat un-sober, was walking back to my hotel in Soi Honey, when some girl outside a massage shop shouted to me and asked if I wanted massage or maybe just boom boom. Ok I thought and went in. Got undressed and went to the shower, stepped out of the shower and boom down I went. Girl came running to see what had happened. Somehow i managed to scoop myself on my arse from the showers to the massagebed and get up and sit on it. Girl said you hurt shoulder you need tiger balm and she started rubbing that unto my shoulder. After a few minutes I decided to get dressed and leave. It was just too painful. Never paid. Was the cheapest but certainly also the roughest massage ever 55555 Get back to hotel, tried to sleep, but couldn't. In the morning i walked to Pattaya Memorial at Klang. Got x-ray'd, during the waiting i started texting my insurrance company, who told me to say to the hospital that the hospital should send the x-ray's to the insurrance company. Doctor (with huge money signs in his eyes) told me I needed surgery, gave me an arm sling in some cheapish green nylon mesh, told me I could leave, but would be required to come back later that day for the surgery. So I left. 2 hours later my insurrance company phoned me, told me they had arranged flight back home, taxi from hotel to swampy and taxi from airport to my home. Had to wait 3 days before the flight. I never went back to Memorial. Went out the same evening to LK Metro. Met an agogo girl there, and ended up staying with me the next 3 days untill I could get home. I didn't really like going out, I was afraid to bump into other people and hurting the shoulder even more. So we stayed indoors all the time doing nothing, except for her going out to do some food shopping and us watching the Paris-Nice cycling race on TV in the evening. Girl told me I looked like a traffic light, as my shoulder chest and part of my belly was turning red, green and yellow. She fed me, washed me, got me dressed. She even asked if she should wipe my arse, but I told her no. Never asked for money except the barfine on the first night. Got home, with Turkish Airways via Istanbul. Airline gave me a hole seating row just for me and a stewardesse on the flight to Istanbul came and fed me the dinner and the breakfast. Also they gave me a free pass to their lounge on the 4 hour layover at Atatürk Airport, despite the ticket from the insurrance company was just the cheapest of the cheapest single seat. Got to hospital the day after returning home. Doctor there told me they wasn't sure if it really was going to be necessary with surgery, but they would cut me up anyway just to make sure the ligaments are still attached to the bones. They pushed my arm a little bit but all else looked fine. Got a small 2cm incision which has mostly vanished since then. Lacking some upwards movement, but that is it. Old age.

Been doing martial arts since my 20s and discovered Tai Chi a few years ago love that stuff great for mind and body. My goal is now to get back to playing tennis again and get Larry back to Subic Bay again ....
