  1. Not as good with the drinking and mongering tourists missing. Their presence added to the party atmosphere. The tourists I don't miss are the groups of Chinese and Indians. They bring nothing to the party, except clogging up roads and footpaths.

  2. Ok finally made it up to Mt. Lassen/Lake Almanor as these were good bets for staying safe with Covid. 34 cases in Plumas County with no deaths, no hospitalizations and no one ever in the ICU here. Outdoor activities are good this time of year and these places did not disappoint at all. Those pine trees and that crisp, fresh mountain air is second to none. 2,100 people live in Chester, Calif and it is a small town and laid back for sure. 5 restaurants, Chinese, Mexican and 3 local home cooking places. The Mexican Food place was just outstanding. Plumas Pines Resort is a great place to eat dinner over looking the lake, had dinner there 3 nights. Stayed at the Best Western Hotel and was a 40 minute drive to Mt. Lassen and 15 minute drive to Lake Almanor. Lot’s of RV’s and plenty of camping here with good facilities. Clean, crisp and clear all the time we were here between 82-85 degrees locally and 75 degrees up high at Mt. Lassen. Mt. Lassen is a hidden gem for sure, never been here or the lake in 51 years living in San Jose, too bad I waited so long. Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Big Bear and all of the others I have been to many times, but this place just had a great vibe for sure. Get in there at the lodge, check out a few places to go and off we went up the mountain. The Sulphur Lake was cool, bubbles sulphur from the ground similar to a volcano, get out of the SUV and you smell it right away….was cool. The Lakes there are just off the hook beautiful and all the surrounding areas the same. At 8,500 feet (2,590 meters) want to check your stamina? Take a hike on the Lassen Peak Trail for 2 1/2 miles about a 30 degree incline. We got up about a 1/1/2 miles in and I was done! Jesus, Rachanee could have gone the additional mile…..she pisses me off, but she’s younger then me too. Rented a boat for 2 days at the Lake, great time, did not realize how many people rent boats. They did not have a Ski Boat available the entire time, wanted to just hit 60 MPH on the water and watch Rachanee take it all in. Settled on a “Pontoon” boat that could have seated 16 people, it could go a max of 40 MPH. It was definitely a “cruiser” and 2 different days spent 2 hours each exploring how big Lake Almanor is….it’s much bigger then I thought. Water is much warmer here then Lake Tahoe. Outstanding time here and Rachanee just loves the Mountains here in Calif and Lake Almanor was outstanding too. Kiss….Well what can I say? The “critics” hated these guys over the 45 years they were together. The "farewell tour” for me was not to be missed. Saw them 3 times over the decades, great show always and I just knew Rachanee would like this final show and I was right. After seeing the videos of their first 3 shows in USA, got tickets for the March 6th show here before all the Covid crap started at Oakland Arena. Unapologetic, in your face and loud and clear as they descended from the rafters of the arena one last time. Jesus, Rachanee was jumping in her seat as the opening song was “Detroit Rock City” and they set off enough “pyrotechnics and bombs” one might think they they were in Beirut! They brought it all one last time for sure. Of course Mr. Gene Simmons could not help himself one last time either, taking the torch, blowing the fire and being hoisted in the air to do “God of Thunder” one last time. Rachanee asks me “Oiiiii, why does he spit the blood like this”? I told her he is “God of Thunder” Na Krap….Paul Stanley was nice enough to come out before the show and talk with her LOL! My Son traded in one of his Ibanez Electrics and bought a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio model in Cherry Sunburst. Nice Guitar….sounds great. I surprised him and bought a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 for him as a gift and gave it to him a few weeks back. Bought it on-line here and took it over to a guy who had worked with Neal Schon a few years back, had him adjust the bridge, adjust the truss rod, lower the strings a bit, put on locking tuners etc. Great addition and he has a nice collection now.

  7. Could the real reason for the outbreak in NZ is because lockdown to eradicate the virus does not work. Time some of these "leaders: come to realise that the way to go is that people have to learn to live with the virus.... get on with our lives... until a vaccine is made.... shutting up shop and hiding from it does not work. I wonder if the NZ PM is still doing her little dance after she declared to the world that NZ had eradicated the virus.....maybe she broke out into a jig premature. cheers

  14. I went for an hour's stroll down Jomtien Beach yesterday afternoon, the area to the south around Soi Wat Bun and Chaiyapruek. It was packed out, as you'd expect on a public holiday, but there were very few farangs around, in an hour I saw maybe a dozen in total. I was taking a daily walk down this way back in April and May when they closed the swimming pools, and there were a lot of farangs around back then. Maybe they just didn't feel like going out yesterday, but I suspect quite a lot of them might have finally gone back home. Another interesting point was that life had almost returned to normal. There was zero attempt at social distancing, and only around 10% of people had face masks on, many of them food vendors. Beer was also being sold openly on the beach, when I thought it was still prohibited. Not a cop in sight, though, so it must all be fine with the authorities, whereas a few months ago you had dozens of them on scooters whizzing up and down Beach Road telling off farangs who had pulled down their face masks to breathe the sea air. After NZ and Vietnam, this all just seems to be asking for trouble. At the moment, though, I got the impression that the Thais, at least those not dependent on the tourist industry, are enjoying having their country back.

  16. There's progress being made in the fight against COVID-19. Of course, if you don't believe in science then maybe a little Russian vodka might do the trick for you. 😉 Coronavirus updates: UCSF researchers unveil nasal spray that protects against COVID Researchers at UCSF say they have developed a synthetic, production-ready molecule that provides protection against the novel coronavirus. Called "AeroNabs," the aerosol formulation can be administered once a day via a nasal spray or an inhaler. “Far more effective than wearable forms of personal protective equipment, we think of AeroNabs as a molecular form of PPE that could serve as an important stopgap until vaccines provide a more permanent solution to COVID-19,” said UCSF biochemistry professor Peter Walter. The UCSF research team is in talks with commercial partners to ramp up manufacturing and clinical testing. https://www.sfgate.com/news/editorspicks/article/Coronavirus-updates-Bay-Area-COVID-latest-virus-15478128.php ‘AeroNabs’ Promise Powerful, Inhalable Protection Against COVID-19 ...a team of researchers engineered a completely synthetic, production-ready molecule that straitjackets the crucial SARS-CoV-2 machinery that allows the virus to infect our cells. As reported in a new paper, now available on the preprint server bioRxiv, experiments using live virus show that the molecule is among the most potent SARS-CoV-2 antivirals yet discovered... ...“Though they function much like the antibodies found in the human immune system, nanobodies offer a number of unique advantages for effective therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2,” explained co-inventor Aashish Manglik, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of pharmaceutical chemistry who frequently employs nanobodies as a tool in his research on the structure and function of proteins that send and receive signals across the cell’s membrane... https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/08/418241/aeronabs-promise-powerful-inhalable-protection-against-covid-19 An ultra-high affinity synthetic nanobody blocks SARS-CoV-2 infection by locking Spike into an inactive conformation https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.08.08.238469v1

  19. Got to disagree. If it is a snapshot of what the situation is like it is informative even if depressing for the owners of those bars that are closed. If expats are aware of the bars that are open then good for them and they can continue to enjoy themselves. I used to live on the dark side so info like this would have given me a good insight into where there would be a reason to visit without wasting my time. I have seen on this thread where bars are open and where they are not and that is the very reason why this thread was started. If members find it depressing to see whole sections of bar areas closed that is not really anything but personal to them but BStreaks photos are pertinent presently and I thank him for taking the time to inform the forum of what parts of the city are like. It is obvious the city has places that are open and those that wish to enjoy themselves still can. Personally I never did soi 6 so a snapshot of the rest of the city is welcome.

Thanks Matt.....every camera guys dream being out of the city like this in the Sierra Nevada's. Alan, Kiss brought it one last time, you should have seen some of the women there at the show...seriously. Yeah, The Gibson is nice and a good collection piece for sure. For sure, that area is nice up there and sorry I waited so long to get up there. Yep Highway 32 is the way we came and left out of town into Chico....just beautiful. Yeah those lakes are beautiful for sure and was amazed not one person in the whole week we were there was fishing! I wondered why? @boydeste He would have had a field day there with no competition. Yeah Rachanee is just ecstatic at being in the mountains here ( Sierra Nevada's) she just loves it and the lake was a great time too. Hey need to tell you, it's official, my Son bought a home in Elk Grove and is moving up there the 2nd week of October. Got a place up off Laguna Blvd, saw it on the way home and he will be the 2nd owner, 15 year old home and I am really happy for him. The GF landed a job there at Sutter General Hospital. If you see him up at "Centerfolds" let me know.....I know you have a few regulars there LOL! Thanks buddy, yeah I am not getting any younger that's for sure. Rachanee is closer to 50 then 40, and she too takes her health very seriously, works out 6 days a week.

Here's a few screen shots from my minix box which seams to work well. There's also a tab on the left that pulls out with forum shortcuts and it may change into the mobile version on your mobile device.. CLICK ON THE APK FILE TO DOWNLOAD:- _forum_test_11496931.apk
