  1. I totally agree. These are all haunts that most of us have visited time an time an time again over the years and these sois I almost know by heart. I enjoy seeing and hearing whats going on by first hand accounts of people on the ground. Here I am stuck half way around the world and I personally can not get enough of photos of Pattaya that are posted on this forum. I already have a lifetime or 2 of Great memories of Pattaya and have met some of best mates one could ever hope to come across... I am not a doom an gloom kind of guy and never have been but there are changes going down in a town that I dearly love and I would really like to know the truth as experienced by people there that I know and trust. As long as the friends I have made over the years continue to return to Pattaya in the years to come ----- I will be more than happy join them.

  4. I was in the boat in the previous picture when it capsized. The prop got jammed in the weed and I leaned over the back to free it. Unfortunately the weight of the motor, plus the battery and me was too much and water came flooding in. Within seconds I was underwater and the engine flipped over and hit me on the head, at the same time my life jacket inflated and rammed me up under the boat trapping me momentarily. I managed to swim and drag the boat as close to the bank as I could, then get myself out. My head was bleeding quite badly and I was a bit shakey. My mate cleaned me up and we sat and had a cup of tea whilst working out a plan to retrieve the boat and hopefully the engine and battery. We had a decent length of rope in the car and some rope on a weed rake, together they were long enough to allow me to tie myself around the waist and swim back out to the boat. My mate then pulled me back in with the boat. Incredibly the engine was still hanging on by one clamp and the battery was trapped under the other clamp. With a bit of good fortune I released the battery and guided it into shallow water and trapped it under my foot preventing it from slipping down the shelf. My mate then went under the water and retrieved it. The engine came off easily and we were able to then drag the boat out to empty it and start over. The engine and battery were left in the sun for a few hours to dry out and everything worked fine after. I was very lucky, I always wear a life jacket and in this instance I have no doubt it saved my life.

  6. What I like about this photo is the girls are all dressed without looking like sluts. Unlike other bars, not agogos mind you, where the girls are quite often clad in "come f*** me attire". These girls leave room for the imagination, with just enough spiciness to raise the eyebrow and entice a prospective customer to come on in and have a good time. Sometimes with advertising, it's what doesn't get displayed that can be the drawing card rather than having the goods all laid out. As one who has enjoyed a nice time, both in the bar, and with a couple of the girls' company after, LePub provides a solid mix of attractive ladies with infectious personalities, a sparkle in their eye, a mischievous grin and deadly skills with a cue, as I was humbled a few times while playing pool with one of the girls on my last trip. Pleasant memories for sure and looking forward to return for more, whenever that might be.

  7. I can't really understand all the hype about not getting vaccinated. I was vaccinated for TB, smallpox and Cholera when I was a kid, and given the choice (which I wasn't) , I was happy with the swollen arm for 2 days over my urine turning black and kidneys packing up, thus spending the rest of my life on dialysis. I've been vaccinated against Rabies. I'd rather have a swollen arm than foam at the mouth and experience hydrophobia and possibly death. Same goes for Hepa B and Hepa A. I'd rather have a swollen arm than...I think you get it by now. All, apart from the TB & Smallpox (polio was on a sugar lump) were voluntary, in many cases it cost me money. Smallpox was eradicated by a global vaccination programme, where were the anti vaxxers then? Where were the anti globalists, screaming about not taking on a vaccine that might make their brains explode if they read "catcher in the rye"?. Agreed, the financials due to private companies doing the R&D on this stuff offers a different angle, but if it were not for the big pharmas running the trials and looking for a vaccine, then C-19 might well be here for a lot longer and our freedoms would be restricted a lot more. Also, as C-19 is a relatively new disease (although coronavirus is not) there is still a great deal not known about it, especially the long term effects on health, for pretty obvious reasons. At the end of the day it is personal choice, but I'd probably take the opinion of world leading Epidemiologists who have spent their lives dedicated to observing the behavioural patterns of Viruses over some bloke on youtube telling me that the Govt want to control me through it while saying it's a massive conspiracy. Also, if the vaccine is 99.99999% harmless to people, watch them concentrate on the 0.00001% (which will still be a fairly big number if there's a few billion doses given out). Trust me, the Govt don't need a vaccine to control the populous, they're doing that pretty effectively at the moment without one. Ultimately, the vaccine will probably be no less harmful than eating a donut, the difference being I won't be able to get into Thailand or the Philippines with a donut in my passport in the future.

  11. I walked outside my backyard patio Monday night after midnight to watch the lightning strikes and thunder to the west into the Sacramento Valley. The lightning was being blamed and thousands of acres so far have burned up. Latest news reports was nearly 10,000 people evacuated, a couple hundred homes and structures all gone. Ash is heavy in the air and the sky is a brownish yellow haze hovering over the valley making it tough to breathe. Having to endure many days in a row with over 100 degree temperatures, Tuesday got up to 112 in Sacramento, has made it very challenging. I wish my fellow Californians on the board to stay safe and out of harm's way. And prayers for the firefighters trying to get control of the flames. Still a hard road yet to go.

  14. I'm one of those retirees, stuck in UK, so very frustrating. My retirement visa expires end of October. You're right, the least expensive Elite card is 500k, which covers 5 years - https://www.thailandelitevisas.com/membership-packages-comparison/ That is certainly a cash-cow if people are prepared to pay it. Using the Agency I used to obtain the initial retirement visa it would cost me around 100k over that 5 year period for 5 x multiple entry retirement visas, so it would cost 400k more for an Elite card. The other "benefits" you get with the Elite card aren't really beneficial to me. Last month I checked the BA site for flights and they were taking booking from 1st Sept. I just checked again and that's all changed. They are offering flights every couple of days, but with BA partners (Ethiopian Airlines . . 😩). They're now showing direct BA flights as of October 1st. Let's see how long that stays the case, but it would be crazy to book anything now, despite what's available to book.

  17. About the visa. Same thing happened to me a few years ago when I tried to renew my business visa on my own. They want you to use an agent as they will “ease it through” with a fair amount of lubricant.

  18. Bad day yesterday here in the bay area, tons of fires going on here from "lightning strikes" this past week-end. I feel bad for alot of people who no longer have homes, it's brutal. Many evacuations. About 2:30pm yesterday wifey calls me out from the garage, noticed it kind of felt dark all of a sudden. Looked outside and I thought the world was ending! Geez a thick plume of smoke just took over the entire area, sun was orange trying to break through. Like a bad movie, eventually got a little better later, but still alot of smoke all over. Over for a jog at 7:00pm at the High School. Not good for the lungs. Much better this morning thankfully.

  23. Understand what you mean Phil. In my opinion you're in the wrong place to find a female suitable for a relationship. Found that myself. No shortage of bangs, but relationship material? No way. Closest I've come is the restaurant girl, who I brought to Le Pub one time (the stunner in the white trousers). Still in touch with her, she's now working in a Pharmacy as the restaurant in Jomtien she was working at closed down. Probably impossible but be good to take a few days off and go somewhere for a few days and chill out. Maybe go to the "source", like Kohn Kaen, Buriram, Nakhon Nowhere, etc. and catch one before she may even think of heading to Pattaya.

  27. I really dont think a Thai girl will be paying 4500 a month for a room and the rest of these cost can easily be lowered a lot......Plenty of days I don't spend 600...Especially when I am not eating western food.... Ok for a regular tourist 600 a day would be pretty much like having to live in Prison..... But for a long term expat who only occasionally goes to bars and does not give a second thought to walking away from stunner expecting $$$ for her gold plated snatch....600 baht a day after paying for the room, could be done , at least for a while.... I think New Plaza is proof that plenty of expats live on very modest budgets..... So I think 600 a day for a Thai girl is doable.....

  30. Sometimes the "grease" works best in TH (especially in TH gov't), but also with the various embassies. Years ago, I needed to get back to the US quickly and wanted to take my baby daughter (US citizen born in BKK) and ex-Mrs. TH along. My dad was not long for this world... I used an well-connected "agent" to get the visa (tourist) and we had a 10-year tourist visa in hand in a matter of several weeks. The best part was the agent lit a fire under my ex- to actually get the info that was needed to complete the application.

  31. I’m not really enjoying life at the moment, nothing to do with the virus, although it doesn’t help. Wish I could look after my kids on my own without having to deal with their Mum. Don’t really enjoy being single, but not really connecting with any potential partner at the moment. Need some luck.

  33. I was vaguely listening to a conversation between Sai and her sister Joy. I don't understand much at all of such conversations and they generally ignore any comments I might make in English. I do find them interesting though because they do not speak in what Brits would consider to be normal conversational volume levels so most discussions sound like an argument to me. Anyway, I was eating my breakfast bowl of musli and multigrain toast and I suddenly hear Sai say " ...........f**k Ma.........f**k Ma" ............which was quite a shock "Teerak, teerak. That is no way to talk about your Mum" says I in an indignant voice. (notwithstanding something along the same lines has often crossed my mind.) "Huh??" is the opening response from Sai. "Well teerak, I know you Mum can get on everyone's tits but f**k Ma is a bit strong from you about your own Mother." Sai and her sister fall about laughing. "If you had bothered to learn to speak Thai you would know that I said fuq Ma which meant I was referring to Mum's Pumpkin that she grew and brought back yesterday from the farm. The word "FUQ" means pumpkin in Thai." I laugh and say " Sorry you worried me for a moment." "Okay...............what you mean by Mum getting on everyone's tits?" 🤣 The "f**k Ma" ( aka Mum's Pumpkin)

  35. not sure what its like in indo but here there are no jobs.. bar or otherwise. factories are on short time too. pretty soon the repo rates will be announced and be horrendous, houses, cars the lot everyne is cutting back and also watching and worried in case there is a re emergence. regardless of whether serious or not, it would see another and more serious clamp down nationwide even our contracts, few as they are, as issued with an greement that were there to be an outbreak again and a business forced to close we will freeze the contract, as we did last time too. that in turn screws me regally . most rooms for thais here, except roach holes cost around 3K-3.5k a month plus electric and water. friend of mine has moved into a 2.5K roach infested hole, according to her. another who came here from a real job elsewhere with 20K saved, to get her going here, is now down to 3K and no chance of recouping the dosh. mama noodles sell well right now

  36. You are not alone. I wish I could turn the clock back 9 months. My change to spending almost three weeks "Up Country" every month and the balance in Bangsaray/Pattaya as opposed to the other way round has not been a success. Not being able to see my daughters this year because of Covid restrictions has not helped at all. First time since 2006 and two days ago I learned they have managed to change their flights yet again but to mid March 2021.They are all excited but I have this sinking feeling that even another 7 months may not see the complete lifting of incoming tourism to Thailand. No footy on the TV and to cap it all I read Manure might steal the Gooners new incoming center back before he finally signs. Oh woe is me!

  40. From a selfish social point of view the week I spend in and around Pattaya in every month is just as enjoyable as ever. If two thirds of the entertainment venues were shut there would still be far more still open than I could ever visit in any evening and there would be a better atmosphere anyway simply because they would be busier. There are much wider issues at play than having a good time in bars etc. Driving in pattaya in the car and stopping at traffic lights and finding Thai's coming up to the car and begging for money is quite upsetting to say the least. It is highly indicative of the adverse effects of no tourists on Pattaya. Renewing my Retirement visa myself recently was extremely traumatic after my problems last year but why should I be even considering paying 15K to an Agent when I knew I had all my ducks in a row? The answer is that "THEY" want us to use an Agent and it is almost impossible to rid oneself of the thought that "THEY" don't want us here anyway and are looking for any excuse to find something wrong. I never thought the day would come but I have actually considered the ramifications of going back to the UK. I don't want to but who knows if maybe the Thai authorities might just make it impossible for me to stay. Overall, this is the most uncertain of times for any expat in Thailand.
