  1. The forum was two years old yesterday. Firstly I am sure that no one will forget, Phil (Lanazlad) who initially created and developed the forum. His presence on the forum and behind the scenes will be sadly missed. Secondly the world is somewhat different to what it was a year ago. Tourism has been badly hit in many if not all parts of the world. The airline industry has been devestated at least in the short and medium term. How things will develop in reality I would suggest that no one really knows. Whilst there has been fluctuations in the number of members viewing and posting on the forum, by and large our numbers have been reasonably consistent. My thanks to all members who have continued to post and contribute to the forum. I took a decision to fly home in April of this year; others took a decision to remain in Thailand. Special thanks go to those still in Thailand, both ex pats and long term visitors, for their informative posts (including photographs) which have been great. Over the next year, I would hope that the restrictions on tourists visiting Thailand will be eased; I am not sure which way things will move and I do not think that anyone else has the answer to that question. The forum is developing and evolving. In conclusion may I thank all members who have contributed in many different and positive ways to the development of this forum. Thank You John

  2. This covid bullshit finally got me motivated to build the outdoor cook shack. Most of our meals will be cooked outside in the winter time. Slowly getting there.Waiting for some custom length metal for the roof. Hate being inside. The boys were around yesterday and a couple reckon it looks like a beer bar,so we will have to sexy it up. Meat, outdoors, with the tv and the Footy on.We are trying our best.

  5. 2 years certainly has gone quick and a lot has happened in that time. This Forum was set up in many respects, against all odds. It has turned out, for me at least, as the best Thailand forum around with some great posters and lots of info, photos, opinions and light humour. We should congratulate ourselves and also Phil (R. I. P) and Tommy Dee for making it possible. Let's hope we will be celebrating for many years to come especially when things eventually get back to near normal and most of us can enjoy our trips again.

  7. Beach Gal and I went to Pattaya ... We rented a house for 2 days 3 nights .. 5k all in ... She wanted to go out to that restaurant that sits on the harbor ... Ocean View ( I think ..who knows ) ... don't bother with the pizza ... the dough was to soggy ... I went out the first night and ended up back at the house "on my f**king ass " ...... went and saw Mr.Egg and also ran into Dave at Le Pub .. both of the are super good guys ... then I ended up ...f**k me .. I don't even know .. but, it was fun ..... Didn't even make it upstairs to bed ... fell asleep in a lounge chair and woke up early and Beach gal was on one side of me and Ziggy on the other side of me sound asleep .. what more could a guy ask for .... nothing IMHO .... the 2 people I love the most in my life .... Had a couple more big beers ... I felt like total shit .... then we went off to Prime Burger .... I am allowed to look like a bum ! Especially when you have the most beautiful gal in the place ....

  16. This place definitively been added to my "regular cantines". Perfect for a beer and a small bite after buying bread and some minor grocery shopping. Located on the main street, 200m from the small supermarket I go. Swedish, which limits the things I like, but clean and food is good and fresh. Omelette wish mushroom, bell pepper and salmon. And a general view of the place. Looks like they have a few rooms for rent as well. Empty on the pictures (otherwhile I wouldn't have taken them) but usually 2 or 3 tables busy at 10.30 am at this moment. In normal times it is pretty busy.

  20. Can't see many embassies/consulates issuing letters as there are and will be flights available to leave before the 26th. The unfit to fly medical certificate on the other hand may well be a good money maker for some.

  21. Watched it also a few months ago, like you I knew sad stuff was coming even though they look fairly wealthy and happy in opening scenes. I remember hearing about the Killing Fields at the Oscars even though I was only 9 or so, but knew zero about Cambodia and it’s history until joining Secrets board and travelling to LOS in 2008. Like you said, seems to be something that was ignored by mass media, but like us, once you’ve learned about it(and even visited the country), you are very ad and amazed at such a brutal genocide could take place

  26. The larger system will but not for long enough. It's simply too small to be effective. ADDED - for no more than I run the aircon, it wouldn't be worth it to expand the system. I smoke and my wife hates the smell. If I do run the aircon, I have to close six windows or try to cool the outside. I'm too lazy to close all the windows so use the aircon even less.

  27. A bit off topic. The electric grid up here in the boonies absolutely sucks. It is down now and has been for a couple hours. I bought a small generator and that didn't work out very well. By the time I got it connected and running the power would come back on. Just too much hassle. I then tried the UPS units. They would only keep things going for a hour or so. Big ones are simply too expensive. That's when I got interested in solar power. I started out with one solar panel and one battery to run my computer. That proved to be just too small. I finally went for two panels and four AGM batteries. The system was very dependable and trouble free. I then built another bigger system, four panels and four golf cart batteries. My computer room is totally off grid as well as my router, printer, fans, lights and surveillance cameras. I have no idea whether the systems will ever pay for themselves but when the neighborhood is dark, I still have electricity 24/7. No worry about power surges or lightning strikes. This is something to consider if you have your own home and are bit handy.

  28. More structures going up at the Xzyte Food Center. Same at the future food market next to Nirun. This is probably only a small percentage of the dead lines they've removed on Buakhao.

  29. Some of you may have known Khaimook (Mook) who worked at Sapphire and then Queen on LK Metro. She passed away from kidney failure brought on by the chronic disease lupus. Her funeral is today in Pattaya. She was a lovely young lady who seemed to be on track for a better life. She'd saved her money and recently finished a house in Isaan. She's also found a boyfriend with whom she was happy. It's tragic she got struck down so young.

  31. Not too many ice hockey fans on here, but those that are will be sad to hear Dale Hawerchuk has passed at only 57, from stomach cancer. Was the #1 pick in the 1981 draft, and still ranks 20th all time with over 1400 points

  32. Wrestling fans will remember this guy, Kamala the Ugandan Giant(he was actually American). Dad took me to the Forum in Montreal in 1987, the main event was him against Hulk Hogan. He suffered lots due to diabetes, had a leg amputated among other things, and Covid-19 finally did him in at 70. RIP
