  1. So China just tested about 6 million people in 3 or 4 days. That's the difference, get on top of it super fast. Even if you don't believe those exact figures or timescale, you just know it will be a huge amount of people in a very short time, test and isolate if needed to get on top it straight away. Try that is the UK or US and 2 million would refuse squealing about personal freedoms or that Bill Gates had laced the swabs with miniature robots that build 5G masks on your tonsils, or some other equally logical reason! They walk among us 🙄

  3. Thai's don't need health insurance. It is the same as them having a car and never ever having it serviced. They dangle something off the interior mirror and have some prayer tat on the back of their neck. For comprehensive cover they have an additional prayer painted on the inside roof of the car. Much cheaper than health/Motor insurance and covers not breaking down as well.

  11. I once spent about six months in my condo in Jomtien with all the knives in the condo stored on a shelf above head height after "Lek the knife fighter" attempted to fillet me. 🤣 Overnight rentals got plastic cutlery for their pot noodles.

  12. Back in 2006 when I applied for my first Retirement extension everything was concluded the same day. The Immigration official who dealt with the processing is still around in Immigration to this day but no longer involved with visa's etc. I had paid and all he had to do was return my actual passport but as he was about to do that his "Supervisor" sitting in the desk behind him said something to him so he started to swivel round on his chair and at the same time "returned" my passport by quite literally throwing it at me. It hit the table, then me and then fell on the floor from where it was retrieved by me. By then he was engrossed in conversation and I no longer existed. That is what they think of us (expats) and nothing has changed to this day only become worse.

  14. The Honda Africa Twin was owned by the guy who owned the motorbike shop on Soi Baukow opposite the city hospital. He was trying to sell it for 495kb. It took my interest as I have the same bike. Because I was stranded for 6 months, I used to look at it every time I went by to reminisce.

  18. FIFY Most of urban China is light years ahead of the west in terms of technology, transportation and safety. Health care is not as readily accessible. Probably one of the reasons they want to avoid any major outbreaks. The hospitals they built in Wuhan back in Jan/Feb were impressive developments nonetheless. Chinese people toe the line when the gov't says so. I've spent some time there the past few years. It's quite different than some would want us to believe. Fun to travel around, great food, friendly women. Testing & tracing are imperative for finding and isolating the virus. Basic public health. Much of the US is "out of control" now. Not just urban battlegrounds shown on TV campaign ads, but also in the countryside. People are armed to the teeth -- combined with readily available opioids and a sinking economy -- desperation has set in. Many people are restless, hungry &/or out on the interstates looking for new pastures. I see homeless encampments around everywhere (& they all carry knives). A portion of the states are also doing better than ever (funny country sometimes in this respect). The pubs where I live & drink have all built outdoor "parklets" so people can drink and socialize outside. Most people wear masks -- when not drinking -- and infections are low. We have very mild winters and there should not be another "infection wave" like is already happening in other parts of the US . The second pic below is of a questionable guy -- a feral skateboarder -- who walked up very close to me (<1m) in the park last weekend. If I hadn't been sitting down I would have walked away from him before he got close. The do walk among us.

  19. Oops, I did it again - saw a deal I couldn't refuse and jumped on it. This is a 2017 Yamaha WR450F with only 228 km on the clock, barely broken in - its original owner left the country and gave the bike to a friend to sell for him but the friend knows almost nothing about bikes and put a really crappy ad on Facebook and the machine sat in his garage for a few months with no takers. Knowing the potential of this model, I had a look at it the weekend before last but of course the battery was almost flat and we couldn't start it - tried again this past weekend with more success and I closed the deal and brought the bike home night before last - spent yesterday doing maintenance and easy performance mods and went out for a short and scary ride on our treacherous local trails just to get the oil warm enough to change - it's been freezing at night the last week or so and the trails are really greasy, was sideways more than once with the power that this thing has. Last night it snowed and with the current forecast I think it might stay, so I timed things just right - the machine is now put away for the winter but I'm glad I had the chance to try it out once this year before it was too late...

  22. First snow of the year last night and now it is -6C and blowing like hell - forecast is for sub-zero temperatures for at least the next few days so winter could possibly be here; normally in this neck of the woods we will get some snowfall in October but it won't stay until around Halloween, but I'm not too optimistic this year. Thankfully yesterday was a lovely sunny day and I managed to get my bikes put away and some other yard stuff done before the white stuff arrived...today will be a lazy day and it's off to the pub later.

  26. lol.... One of the things I always do when I move into a new place and/or have a dame over. I do a quick assessment of easily accessible weapons. Any knives stored (at minimum off the counter, depending on the pre threat assessment - or in a hard to reach cabinet, if orange or red level.). Heavy frying pans, irons, anything with a handle go to a difficult to reach place (Don't forget scissors). Small heavy lamps and some decorations can be used for throwing or striking, of course any glass or decorative bottles mirrors and even small tables. Thing is if you have that kind of stuff keep it out of distance. Because when they hit red level and the fuse is lit it's time to be on full defense alert. Keep them from getting their hands on anything. Get them to focus eyes on you not allowing them to scan (looking around) because if they are no doubt they are looking for something to break or use as a weapon. Once they reach that level you are dealing with a different person, there is limited rationality remaining until the chemicals flowing through them dissipate. Don't think you are interacting with the same person, because you're not.

  29. Used a Belkin one before ( approx £20) as our walks are 18” thick so necessary. Worked ok but last Year switched to BT as our Broadband provider and they provide a Smart Hub aka a booster disc, which shoots a decent signal everywhere and allows wireless connectivity to TV’s / Computer / laptop / phones etc. V. 35. I can see that having any further discussion with you would be a complete and total waste of time. Apology not accepted and not one ounce of b.s. Just sharing some personal observation. You are welcome to take it or leave it, and it appears that you left it. Which is fine by me. Just don't expect me to show up to your next covid swap piss fest. I'm not exactly looking forward to be breathing through a tube anytime soon.

  36. But Code, why would that boggle your mind, or does that not tell you something? The way Thailand and many South East Asian countries, and China etc have dealt with Covid has been good in dealing with it. They hit it hard, and the hit it super fast. They had experience from SARS and bird flu, they had a much more compliant population who listened and took heed, probably helped by the history of having SARS and bird flu. They had a good working test, track and trace, big buy in on the App etc. It's undoubtedly worked for them, and they are getting their economies going again and a sense of normality. Even if people don't believe the Thailand numbers, your post above just shows no matter, they dealt with it well. While in Liverpool in the UK just today over 90% of ICU beds are already full with Covid patients, and we're not even into Winter yet. I mean, to me it's not really surprising that in the main most of the people posting on this thread who are dismissive of or don't take Covid seriously either live in Thailand or other Asian countries. I'd maybe not take it too seriously either if i lived in Thailand where there is little or none of it about, while i'm strolling on or fishing from the beach or whatever. But i don't, i live in the UK, where at the height in April there were over 1000 Covid deaths a day until they finally instilled a lockdown like what the Asian countries had already did ages before. Where if you have a heart attack, stroke, car accident, or any other life threatening thing happen to you in Liverpool next week, you could be in trouble if there is no resources to treat you. The UK is posting very big numbers now, indeed all over Europe they are posting record numbers in cases. And of course hospital and deaths are going up as well. Liverpool's just the start in the UK, sadly. Wait to see where we are this time next month if the current measures don't work. Really, it's night and day, the difference in how Asian countries have dealt with Covid, compared to Europe and the US. And it clearly shows. I'm not looking for or will get into a debate or argument about Covid, it's been done to death on this thread, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm just saying, it's of no surprise to me that many members who live in Thailand or nearby don't take Covid too seriously, i mean, why would they, there's little or none of it there. But it's different if you're living somewhere where the hospitals are already starting to fill up with Covid patients, where it's posting daily record numbers, where undoubtedly that's going to equate to deaths.
