  2. Thailand is not doing any "mass testing" so of course they dont find positive cases. The only one we hear about are people who fell ill, went to the hospital and got checked. Again, let them do 500k or 1 million testing per week and you'll see what is the real situation.

  4. I totally agree with you on this one, TS. But congrats to you on making it 4 minutes. I think I bailed after 3. I don't know this guy, never met him. I have spent a bit of time in a Nightwish bar or two, but for Gawd Sakes...in listening to this guy drone on and on in that nasally accent, I've heard more excitement in a hostage video! This guy makes Michael Caine reading a column from The Economist sound simply Shakespearean in comparison. At least I have found a surefire cure for those nights when suffering from insomnia and can't get to sleep by 5 am. I'll just type this guy's name on You Tube and hell, I'll be out like a light in less than 10 minutes.

  5. Yes it was a fish and chip Friday. Was going to buy but ended up making my own fish and chips with a nice piece of haddock from fish mongers and King Edward's potatoes from Morrisons.

  10. Mae Sot is where I spend about 18 days in every month. I am there now until I return to Pattaya/Bangsaray probably on the 3rd November. Prior to this recent incidence Mae Sot only ever had two Covid infections both back in March and both visitors from Pattaya. One of Sai's friends is a nurse at the General Hospital who dealt with the two positive cases and confirmed there had not been any further Covid admissions until the recent infections. It is not two but up to eight now including one young child all supposedly traced back to the two truck drivers who having crossed over from Burma then went shopping in Mae Sot. They traced well over 100 "potential contacts" all of whom have been in isolation which I believe ends tomorrow. There have not been any reports of infections after the original cases. All bars and restaurants have been effectively shut down by the authorities but may well open again after this weekend. Even though Mae Sot had for months only the two cases the town continued to enforce recommended measures. You cannot shop in any of the three major shopping centers without wearing masks and being temperature tested and you have to enter your contact details on a sheet at entry. The same applies to entering all 7-Elevens. There is a very large Tesco shopping center halfway between the town center and the border crossing to and from Burma. Back in March they closed the border and all Burma nationals returned home. The Tesco shopping center overnight went from being very busy with about 20 or so checkouts to having just 2 remaining open with the store and all the other shops in the complex being very quiet even at the weekends other than the various restaurants. It is very easy to pick out the Burma nationals and they have been completely absent for months. Except, maybe for the last 3/4 weeks when I have seen small numbers shopping in Tesco's, bulk buying items prsumably for subsequent resale and not personal use. I saw one shopper with two carts full of bottles of coke of all things. How are they turning up if the border remains closed? The answer is that APPARENTLY Thailand has recently been allowing numbers of visitors to come across the border from Burma each day for 7 hour shopping trips which means that although most will go straight to the big Tesco complex there is nothing to stop them wandering all over the Town as long as they return within 7 hours. Little wonder the truck drivers did the same thing. The local Thai's in the town, having just learned of these 7 hour shopping trips, are up in arms about this happening which is hardly surprising. I imagine the border crossing is totally closed again but you never know. Fortunately there is also a "Robinsons" shopping complex in the Town center with its own large supermarket. Somewhat more expensive and "upmarket" and thus never a haunt of Burma visitors. 😀

  12. It's set by the default font that Invision includes with the forum software. As happens too often with developers, they can't leave well enough alone and insist on tinkering and "improving" things with every upgrade. Worst case is when the developer thinks they know what is best for the end user, without any end user feedback. For a bit of insight on the "I'm the developer and know what's best" mindset, have a look at the Invision Community topic on Why aren't posts numbered within a thread?. The Chief Software Architect decided post numbering was "just meaningless clutter". So rather than make it a configuration option, or include it under the new three dots "...", he made the decision to remove post numbering in the latest update. That guy must be a real joy to work with.

  15. And where do the majority of foreigners eat and drink in Pattaya, probably not at the Sky Gallery. My point is there are plenty of Thais with money, both in Pattaya, Bangkok and the provinces despite what gets printed on the many foreign forums in Thailand.

  21. So, you test weekly 200k people (number easily handled in most western countries. You have a (low) posivity rate of 5%, i.e. 10k people each week. After 1 months thats 40k. And so on, because it goes exponential. So what you do every Sunday with the 10k people you diagnosticed positive ? Locke them up ? You cant, the facilities are not there. Impose self confinement ? You cant, you dont have the means to control they follow the rules. Etc etc .... So at a certain moment you proudly announce you have 1 million people positive.... What you do with them ? Because they DO continue to spread the disease. The whole "we have it under control" is 1000% B.S. Nobody has it under control. Every government cheats and avoid being obliged to say the truth. As simple as that. So fucking live with it ! Like I do. At the beach enjoying a drink, and tonight to the French cantine.

  22. Never thought it would be so hard to order the X15. The first three Lazada sellers I ordered from canceled my order after a couple of days because they didn't have it in stock, even though they listed it as in stock. Even after canceling my order they still list the item as in stock. Their inventory system sucks. Anyhoo, just finished hooking it up and the sound is great. So thanks for your post highlighting your setup. Now I'm looking at getting a 5.1 audio receiver so I can make the most of the new sound system.

  29. Probably the wrong thread but after reading about all the bars doing the online streaming I went and had a quick look on Youtube to see what some sad people are raving about. This is Oh Bar, supposed to be full of stunners ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3dO_uUQOr0&ab_channel=PattayaOhBarOfficial[2ndChannel] I very very quickly went through it and came to the conclusion that watching a paint dry video would be more enjoyable and yet some sad shits are sending them cash. The world has gone mad.

  30. I’ve been coming to LOS for 1/2 that time and the changes are noticeable enough to change my retirement views too. I had initially planned to retire in Thailand, but within the last few years decided to just visit 2-3 times per year instead. I split my time now with the Philippines. Some of my main concerns are - Visa difficulties - Farong’s not being truly accepted by Thai’s, but tolerating us. - Thai govt rules/regulations/dual pricing. - Scams I’ve worked and lived in over a dozen countries and always felt part of the community where I lived, but not so much in Thailand. I feel that Thai’s tolerate us farangs, but don’t truly accept foreigners. The Retirement Visa/Permanent Visa requirements are tedious in Thailand vs other countries on my list. The Goal Posts seem to continually change. It feels IMHO that they don’t really value me being here. I’m not really religious, but majority of my older family members are buddhist. Many Thai’s claim they are buddhist, but their actions reflect something else. I use to work full-time in Thailand and dealt with Thai Govt & Thai Agencies in cooperation with the US Chamber of Commerce. From comparing that relationship with other countries, I feel there is some real issues doing business in Thailand. I still make LOS a second home, but don’t have that warm & fuzzy feeling like years ago when I first arrived. I hope that Thailand someday moves/makes changes that are more in line with the 21st century. I always hope for the best for Thailand and the Thai people. I believe they will get through with the current Covid situation, albeit maybe a slow one...

  35. Cool, the one i had many times was 1992 but non-PAS...I guess it had been manufactured a cpl years before it was first sold and registered maybe. It wasn't far off Lotus Elise levels of steering directness and feedback. Every Ferrari I'd driven up to that point had the "Dog-Leg" box, and indeed so did a lot of other cars i was driving around that time......928 S2, E30 M3, 190 Cosworth, Aston V8 Vantage.....any sports car with a front engine/rear transaxle/5manual setup was dog-leg pretty much. Perfecting that up-right-up 1 -> 2 shift in a Ferrari and dropping the clutch, nailing the throttle all just right is probably the greatest motoring joy I can recall. Yours looks lovely. I prefer the side strakes look of the 348 to the big open scoop/vent look on the 355 😎 Bet that chin/lower bumper took a good stone-pitting though, the first one i had many times was TDF Blue and had the optional black/plastic lower chin....not as pretty but it was a lot easier to drive day-to-day. I had a red Targa a few times as well. funky reg n' all, lol, it a PAS model and the loss of torsional rigidity due to the roof not being solid made it a lot less fun to hustle. I forgot hot-linking to IMGBB and the like isn't working, attaching pics instead... (the red Targa pics aren't mine, but it is the car i had)
