Another perspective...from the US...where over 220,000 have died from Covid-19 complication...

If there were large numbers of unreported cases in Thailand then that would be reflected at the very least in the expat community in Pattaya and Bangkok. Expats going down with Covid would most definitely make the news and this very forum and that is not happening. It is very easy to rubbish Thailand from afar but they closed the borders very early and kept them closed. They introduced lockdowns and implemented what we now consider draconian measures but they appear to have worked. Another factor is that Thai's were already used to wearing facemasks prior to Covid so a very high percentage adopted wearing them immediately. To this day I cannot enter any of our three major shopping centers without wearing a facemask, being temperature tested and entering contact details on a register. The problem is going to be Thailand ( and many other countries) coming to terms with the fact that Covid 19 ( as with influenza) is with us for ever. It is never going to go away world wide and from what I read the likelihood is that when the vaccine is with us it will be only about 50% effective. I certainly will not wish to be vaccinated (unless I absolutely have to for flights) until a couple of years has gone by and we see what shortcuts were taken in its rushed production.

That is heartbreaking, difficult to see how many of them can ever open again.

My sister had a new TVR in Tasmania, but not for long though, as it burst into flames halfway up Mount Wellington and was a total right off. Actually, she was glad it got burned out, as the damn thing was forever in the garage getting “fixed”.

Both my kids have them, both nearly finished, been about 2 years altogether I think. Made a big difference to both of them, as they had kinda wonky teeth. They got it done at BKK Pattaya, think it was about 40k or 50k each for the full treatment.

I had a tooth extracted a while ago, and the Dentist said that I needed to have an implant becase if I did not, then the teeth would move to fill the void. So my answer is Yes, they should work.

Just finished watching this. Thought it was well done. A tragedy that could have been avoided if upper management had listened to the warnings of the engineers. I couldn't believe how arrogant and unrepentant the two managers most responsible for the tragedy, Lucas (Director of Marshall Space Flight Center) and Mulloy (manager of the solid rocket booster program) came across during interviews with them for this series. I hope there is a special place in hell for them as they are directly responsible for the unnecessary deaths of seven brilliant, and skilled people.

In the background that new building going up on the corner of 6/1....... Ground zero for this area by the McDonalds just up from Soi 6.....

A few glasses of wine with some garlic fried shrimps at lunch at the beach cantine. And "sole meuniere" at the French cantine for dinner. Shaking hands, hug and enjoying another normal evening. Not easy to find sole in these regions, and it was pretty good ! And f**k the virus and the doomsday sayers....

With the combination of internal economic (and political) pressures that mount more each day there is going to come a point when they have to come up with a balanced option. It will be something where the costs to enter will be fairly reasonable and the amount of red tape (tests, etc.) streamlined. If not they simply won't get the numbers to sustain the industry. If they don't the industry will collapse, it is just too significant in the countries image and backbone of the economy (I am up here in Chiang Mai, the 2nd largest city in Thailand - everything, and I mean everything is based on tourism). They have to come up with some kind of equilibrium with the cost/hassle so that is something they can present to cover their asses while still allowing the big enough numbers to sustain the industry. I don't think they have much choice. They do not have the capacity or the ability to diversify their economy quickly enough otherwise. How would you train so many millions who cook, clean, drive, massage, entertain, guide, sell/rent property, sell service, security, on an on - to go work in a new chip factory ? Ain't gonna happen. The timing of this will be around the time the vaccines are released. - I'm speculating that there will be some kind of easy test (form you fill out on an app) before you fly. A test upon arrival, along with a pledge that you agreed to wear your mask and wash your hands after you go to the potty. - You will have to show some kind of covid insurance (they will come down to some reasonably affordable amount). - They will make you load some kind of tracking app. on your phone (virtually worthless) - They will require you receive a vaccine upon arrival or proof of something acceptable before you entered. You will slide through the airport like greased lightning, receiving smiles every step of the way. You will be treated like royalty, and respect (with the usual dirty side looks from some of them). They will broadcast in the media how safe and well planned out everything is. They will designate regional covid care centers where they will reassure the public --- that any falang who is shown to have it will be taken, treated and shipped back (at their cost, insurance will pay).
