  1. Covid, the gift that keeps on giving. Still, need to keep things in perspective. From this 2016 article on world death rates, Death Rate Is 120 per Minute, the US portion is... The United States population is 1/24th of the world population (320 million of 7.6 billion). In the United States, 2.6 million die each year. That is 7123 each day, 297 each hour, and 5 each minute.

  2. If the scientists determine that the vaccine doesn't stop a recipient being infectious, it merely prevents him/her suffering the symptoms of Covid, then I very much doubt the quarantine requirement will be dropped.

  3. I have to say fair play to the governor of Samut Sakhon province. When he was asked about outbreak among the Burmese community, he told the reporter the Burmese weren't to blame, they lived in cramped conditions and people shouldn't blame the outbreak on them. Thought it was a touch of class when it would have been easy to blame the Burmese.

  4. It may end up being like the flu jab an annual ( or how every long it lasts ) thing ... if the majority have the jab , it will mean a lot less people requiring hospital treatment , so life can return to normal everywhere ... as long as everyone has access to the vaccine if they want it

  5. By coincidence, I had a Christmas Eve buffet dinner in Monkey Bar (2) in Jomtien. Well appointed Bar which enjoys regular support from expat customers so I am reliably informed although this was my first visit. Really wide range of excellent well prepared food and at 390 baht to include first drink free and a complimentary "raffle" which provided me with a half bottle of whiskey was excellent value for money. I gave the whiskey (Thai} to my mate Sweatie as being a Scot with hollow legs will drink just about anything he doesn't have to pay for himself. He was the only customer possibly ever to drink the bottle of unknown origin you have to pay for in AC in lieu of a bar fine. In fact he drunk two and subsequently passed out at 02:00am in the Reception of the Pacific Breeze. 🤣

  6. the economics of running a business here are now beyond blief. If you remove the multi nationals who can, if they want, spread losses globally against profits, and medical facilities, then for the rest its a matter of how long savings will last and how much you can borrow to keep going For me, my customer base is dwindling fast as all are affected. in turn our revenue is dying as it did in April. There comes a point where effort is outweighed by return, and effort dont pay the bills right now. I feel for those who have closed, but more so for those who struggle to hang on by the skin of their teeth, without any light at the end fo the tunnel. After NY I think we will se a mass number of businesses either close or temporarily board up. most have cut overheads to the bone and there isnt any where lower to go. Me I am looking to sell my body, any offers over 50 baht accepted

  7. The Thai advisory says the closures start Monday (28th). I can hear the music from the beach bars on my back deck so people are taking advantage pre-closure, and TW wants us to run to the mall tomorrow before they're closed (she has a coupon that expires end of the month smh). For my part I made a run to a nearby package store I soon as I heard there were cases and stocked up on beer and Sangsom. My western liquor cabinet remains overstocked from when the last lock down ended and I went a bit nuts. Edit: I live in Rayong city.

  9. The Governor of Rayong has signed the order to close cock fighting and Muay Thai stadiums across the province. All pubs, bars and entertainment venues in Mueang district (Rayong City) have to close. Outside this area they must close at midnight. In Rayong city, the following must also close: fitness centers, swimming pools, museums, massage parlours, cinemas, schools, tutorial schools, game shops and karaoke. Shopping malls can only open to sell essential goods. Restaurants can only open for takeaway.

  17. If that's the case the quarantine requirement will never be dropped then. There is no such thing as 'zero covid' and the vaccine will no stop transmission entirely. Therefore, Thailand like the rest of the world will eventually come to the crossroads, continue with the draconian restrictions to limit infections and suffer the economic harm, or accept that covid is not going away and that vaccination is the best form of protection that allows us to return to normal life.

  22. Through all of this China virus shit since it began .... I was always able to drive to and fro from home in the South to home in BKK ... There were a couple of times ( maybe no more that about 15 times ) I had to go through check points where they made every car and truck go through a road block and they would take your temperature and you were free to go .... Never in BKK though .. always South ... just before you got to the split for Ratchaburi / Petchaburi ... close to Cha Am ... before Hua Hin ... and a couple more a little further South ...

  28. Unless we get a lock down to f**k everything up I expect to be touring mostly around the friendly hostess bars (aka Gentlemen's Clubs) in and around Pattaya with the usual suspects no doubt ending up in the Soi Bukhou area. I have booked myself into the Areca Lodge hotel so I don't have to stagger back far but crossing my fingers as tomorrow is the last day I can cancel for free if they subsequently lock us down. One thing is for sure. You are not likely to be able to take your wife into most of the venues I will be behaving badly in on New Year's Eve. 🤣 You will both no doubt enjoy a warm welcome in Le Pub from Phil.

For the one without mask, shouting about he bought a drink, well done, bloody good joke ! Hell, if you can't even have a bit of a laugh about stupidity of the world...

  31. Two cases according to Pattaya News, and both linked to the Samut Sakhon seafood market. The problem is that they returned from Samut Sakhon on December 2nd but didn't test positive until December 23rd. How many people did they infect in the intervening three weeks? https://thepattayanews.com/2020/12/25/chonburi-announces-two-new-local-transmission-cases-of-covid-19-both-had-been-to-samut-sakhon/
