That track and trace if accurate is very impressive.

    Mmmm.....

    https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/How-Singapore-fights-COVID-with-contact-tracing-5-things-to-know

    https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00264-020-04646-2

SGP, South Korea and Japan had / have the most efficient tracing system. At the cost of losing completely any privacy .....

"One aspect of this is SafeEntry, a system for checking in and out of offices, shopping malls, cinemas and other places. Individuals are required to use their mobile phones to scan QR codes and enter some personal information. This way, they can be alerted if an active carrier happened to be in the same spot at the same time.

This is combined with the TraceTogether program, which uses a smartphone application or portable electronic tokens to track close encounters between people using Bluetooth wireless technology."

"Nonetheless, contact tracing is expectedly time consuming, laborious and with possible recall bias, especially if patients are unwell. Digital technology has come to aid in several ways. One technique that the authorities in Singapore are using is the examination of patient’s digital footprint [12]. ATM withdrawals and credit card activities, such as through ridesharing applications, credit card payments at restaurants or shopping centres, movement on public transportation, leave digital footprints and these can assist the authorities in finding out where the person has been and how they have travelled"

Well, you guessed my position already....f**k that.

I think they will get it under control relatively quickly, but there will be a lag of 10-14 days before we see the peak, and then another few weeks after that before we see what impact the current restrictions are having.

Hahaha... Still dreaming and drinking the Thai cool aid ?

It's already happening, patients have been moved from London to Yorkshire already. Further plans being put in place to moves patients, staff and equipment where necessary.

A bit troubled by that part.

I mean the idea of moving patients to hospitals in low Covid areas is to free beds and equipment in the originating hospital in the "red" areas.

But if you move the staff and equipment together with the patient, you simply reduce the capacity of the originating hospital.

Doesn't make sense to me, or is there something that escapes me ?

Technical question, technical answers only plse...

Spicey is a keyboard warrior(albeit a very enthusiastic one) living on an island nearly 8000 miles from the UK who keeps on pontificating about Covid in the UK.He obviously has little to occupy his mind so he spends it all on Google and other websites researching about Covid in the UK to create foment amongst us that live here and are experiencing it first hand.

I take whatever he says with a pinch of salt about the size of a large boulder.

    No insult intended Spicey.

No keyboard warrior at all mate.

But this Covid thing is an interestic social event, in the sense that the human reaction / social part is way more fascinating than the disease itself. The disease is just that, and a cure will be found or not. The world has survived 1000's of diseases, it will survive that one. Of course,.like every disease it wiln claim victims. But so does tobacco, alcohol and drugs without even being diseases ....

I follow France, UK, Belgium. Why ? Because it are 3 countries where reliable data is publicly available in languages that I master, and where I can read the papers. I could add Germany but my German language skills are very rusty.

I tried to check for the US, but it is very difficult to find data at country level, its mostly by state. And besides that, after all the shiite we seen there during the elections, I much doubt about their data .

I am indeed retired, and have a bit of time available. Some spend it on watching dart games, or snooker...well to each his own. But rest reassured, Covid doesn't take more than an hour a day to stay updated.

My stock market stuff 2 or 3.

The rest of my hours as you all know I spend drinking gallons of Bintang.

OK, off to the morning swim !

Voila, that is what I call a proper answer !

  6. Nobody seen this ?

    https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/thailand-clears-use-of-herbal-medicine-for-covid-19-treatment

BANGKOK (BLOOMBERG) - Thailand's health ministry approved the use of a herbal plant extract to treat early stages of Covid-19 as a pilot programme amid a flare-up in the coronavirus outbreak in the South-east Asian nation.

Andrographis paniculata, commonly known as green chiretta, will serve as an alternative treatment to reduce the severity of the outbreak and cut treatment costs, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 30).

The treatment will be available in five state-owned hospitals initially, it said.

What I dont understand in the UK, why when an hospital arrives at saturation they dont dispatch patients to hospitals in areas which are less touched by the virus ?

We did it during the 1st wave (medical trains and Air Force planes) , Belgium did it (they have send patients to Germany, and Germany is doing it now as well.

It's not like every region is hit at 100% ?

Any answer ? (Without involving Macron or the EU plse ....)

Well, ask a simple technical question, nobody answers....

Say ONE thing about mask or vaccine, you have 10 answers barking ...

All the main vaccines being discussed rely on an initial jab and a booster 4 weeks later and that's where they get their 95% or whatever figures from.  2 doses.

So, tell me, having tested those magic vacines only 6 months, and the world having only 9 month experience / knowledge of C19 how can any of those big pharma boys GUARANTEE what is the duration.of this vacine protection ?

Because if one says it's one year, it means they have done trials with follow up over a year  ? So, mathematically the vacines having being approved 1.or 2 months ago how can anybody guarantee the duration of their efectiveness ?

Not my words, plse refer to the study by The Lancet that I posted a few hours ago ....

  11. Off to the dentist... 3rd time in two weeks.

    - infection cut open

    - theeth cleaning (with that little grinder..)

    - today 2 theeths filling

Miss also needs a few things done.

Local dentist (husband and wife) overseas educated, perfect English, but of course not cheap.

Receives you dressed in full Hazzmat gear. And applies a special "Covid PPE charge" for the disposable PPE he  uses and changes at every patient.   Good man must use good quality stuff, the charge is 350 b / person ...

It never ceases to fascinate me how some people are so scared of Covid that they spend their time searching for material that supports their view "nothing does anything so there is no point in doing anything".

When my number for vaccination comes up I'll be there because (based on current data)

    • It will protect me against disease 95%.
    • It will protect me against severe disease 100%.

Thus I'll also be protected against the selfish who's only concern is their share portfolio and the foolish who see the rules of lockdown as more like suggestions.

Whether it contributes herd immunity (or herd mentality) I really couldn't give a fuk.

Published data already says that recipients of the Oxford and Moderna vaccines have shown positive swabs for viral RNA post vaccination so vaccination probably doesn't protect against infection. Whether this means that the vaccinated can still be infectious remains to be determined although I'd say it's better than 50-50 that they are. If that's the case then 100% vaccinated will be required to achieve herd immunity or there will be a Darwinian cull of certain segments of the population.

Roll on March (current timetable for mass vaccinations to commence in Oz).

BTW, did you read the lancet study ?

Or was it too sophisticated ?

My portfolio ain't my only concern. Price of whisky and wine is also one.

To each his priorities..... for some it is the opening or closing of gogo bars, so what ?

At the end we all die, so live YOUR live like YOU want, I dont give a shit, although I can still express my opinions and view. And I live MY life like I want.

And ain't some doom and gloom predicators or wanabee forum sheriffs that are gonna change that !

May the Mercifull protect you and help you with wise posts ....

  15. For those who think a vaccine will solve everything in 6 months, I recommend this lecture from The Lancet.

OK, It's 2 months old, but that doesn't change anything on the principle.

Challenges in creating herd immunity to SARS-CoV-2 infection by mass vaccination - The Lancet

It's it bit more hard to read than The Sun, but if a stupid non native English speaker like me managed to understand it, it should be a walk in the park for you ?

You can download it as pdf as well.

For those who understand French, "Le Monde" has a decent video summary of the process on Youtube.

  17. Democracy at it's best ..

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/29/spain-to-keep-registry-of-people-who-refuse-covid-vaccine

"Spain’s health minister has said the country will create a vaccination registry that will include those who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19, yielding a document that could potentially be shared with other countries in Europe."

Now, that a country's medical or health system keeps a record of vaccinations seems rather normal

But that a police or other "surveillance organisation" does it, is not acceptable.

That ANY organisation or government keeps a record of people who turned down the vaccination is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE and has no justification at all, except for later punishment or retaliation in one or other form.

And that a government would share any of the above records with another country is completely out of order.

it are this kind of actions / decisions that clearly show governments dont give a shit anymore about ethics, their only target is total submission and control of the population.

And considering all the "good" citizens applaud with both hands when taking it in the ass, I cant see the governments stopping this "new world"
