  1. Worrying news for lefties and sofa screamers. It appears the vaccine is responsible for a massive drop in the rate of infection in Israel. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55706855
  2. If the rumours are correct, won't be seeing the lady behind the Pook empire anytime soon...
  3. Don't blame you pal. Plus it's a pain in the hole to get back over that side of town if you are pissed and having a late one. But I really can't see tourists being in Pattaya in any significant numbers this year, another 12 months is a long time to hold out...
  4. I hope for barowners in central and south Pattaya they start venturing over from the darkside. It doesn't look like the current entrance restrictions into Thailand will be eased this year. It's going to get brutal.
  5. Great pics, thanks. What about MIT complex, are the rumours true?
  6. Bars were meant to be closing at midnight prior to the second closure, but going by social media many were flouting the rules. I'd say this time will be no different. Prime location for another large condo/hotel development.
  7. It's this ludicrous idea of 'zero covid'. The Irish deputy PM hinted at this in a recent press conference. He said that if people want to pursue a 'zero covid' policy that means shutting borders indefinitely, and living with restrictions and an endless cycle of lockdowns. Bizzarely, things have gotten worse not better since the vaccines came onboard. Utter madness.
  8. Copa Liberatadores final on now.

Why is it so popular in Thailand?
  10. Been around a long time tbf, probably doubled in sized over the past five years with the new bars that have popped up in its surrounds. Like I said most are crap and it wouldn't make much difference to my trips if they disappeared.
  11. I was walking down a main thoroughfare in Belfast. Just in front of me was a mum and her son, he was maybe 5 or 6 years old. She was glued to her phone, no interest in the kid. The kid stepped out onto the road and was inches away from being hit by a bus. My heart skipped a beat, how the bus missed him I'll never know. The mum barely batted an eyelid.
  12. I don't see much point of promoting a national holiday to boost GDP if they aren't going to allow people to travel freely, visit restaurants and bars, and go shopping.
  13. I thought Chonburi had been moved to an orange zone?
  14. I haven't been able to keep up with the amount of fixtures and getting my team sorted in time. Seems like there is a PL game everyday at the moment?
  15. Irish PM expects full lockdown to last 6 months. I can see the UK being fairly similar. Staggeringly, it looks like 2021 is going to be much worse than 2020.
  16. Additional holidays declared for Chinky new year, so you would imagine there would be some relaxation of restrictions for that.
  17. Lots of development still going on in Pattaya, more hotels etc. Pattaya is far from finished.
  18. Nobody knows for certain if transmission occurs after vaccination. Regardless, a vaccine does not need to prevent transmission to be effective. As soon as those that are clinically vulnerable have been vaccinated, then it's the best interests of the rest of the nation to start returning to normality. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/vaccines-need-not-completely-stop-covid-transmission-to-curb-the-pandemic1/ Sterilizing immunity may have been a lofty goal for COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers, though not necessary to curb disease. According to Crowcroft, the very concept of such immunity is nuanced. “In reality, the spectrum of protection might best be framed as the extent to which vaccination prevents transmission of the wild-type virus or bacteria,” she says. The case of rotavirus—which causes severe vomiting and watery diarrhea and is especially dangerous to infants and young children—is fairly straightforward. Vaccination limits, but does not stop, the pathogen from replicating. As such, it does not protect against mild disease. By reducing an infected person’s viral load, however, it decreases transmission, providing substantial indirect protection. According to the Centers for Disease Control, four to 10 years after the 2006 introduction of a rotavirus vaccine in the U.S., the number of positive tests for the disease fell by as much as 74 to 90 percent . The pathway to vaccine-mediated control of an infectious disease is not always so direct. Ultimately, whether, and to what degree, inoculation prevents transmission depends on the pathogen itself, the host or hosts it infects and the interaction between the two, Bowdish says.
  19. https://www.ft.com/content/d4a4dec0-57b5-41a4-8a42-f898c4089df3 Thai Hoteliers want the govt to scrap the quarantine requirements for vaccinated travellers. I wish them every success, I hope for their sake the Thai govt doesn't persist with the utterly ludicrous policy of closing the borders until the local population has been vaccinated.
  20. It's people her age range (16-25) I feel most sorry for tbh. They have had their education disrupted, some of them are still paying extortionate fees for online University tuition, and to add insult to injury they are still being forced to pay for University accommodation they are prohibited from using. The employment opportunities for people in this age bracket are almost non-exsistent, and they are going to be saddled with the majority of the debt that needs to be paid back. Not to mention the damage from being confined to their bedrooms or apartments during what should be the most important years of their adult lives. It's absolutely scandalous how young people have been left to bare the brunt of government incompetence and mismanagement. History will judge the teachers, politicians and society very badly for the way they have treated the young people throughout this pandemic. The moral cowardice of a large element of our society should never be forgotten.
  21. Lucky you, sounds great. I was hoping to check Kampot out in the future but if the Chinese plan on turning it into another Sihanoukville then I will give it a miss. I hope for the sake of the local Khmer it doesn't happen. The people in that country have already suffered enough over the decades without this shite...
  22. I'm glad to hear that the Retox is holding up well. Colin is a nice bloke that doesn't get involved in the bar owner drama, doesn't complain about his lot, he just gets on with it.
  23. I don't like the idea of covid passports but if it allows people to start travelling again, then I'm all for it. I was hopeful that I would have been able to start traveling again in the second half of 2021, that hope has all but gone, can't even get over to Britain.
