Can definitely smell it, but only a few wisps of black smoke.

It was "under control" quite quickly so I'm guessing some sort of automatic fire suppressant.

Prior to this fire, my plan was to go to Big C at 11am but changed my mind and went to local shops instead. There is still smoke but as you say just whisps.... and my local 7/11 now sell Laughing Bird so the morning wasn't totally wasted !!

Thick black smoke pouring into the sky on Pattaya Tai.. .. it looks to be heading in the direction of @forcebwithu house ...I'm guessing B-Quick rather than Big C due to the black smoke ..

The source of the smoke...

Scrap Yard Busts into Flames in Pattaya

A fire gutted a scrap yard in Pattaya at 10:30 AM today, March 17th. No injuries were reported.

The Pattaya firefighter unit rushed to an incident site in Soi Ko Phai in the Banglamung district of Pattaya after being alerted to a fire that was burning in a scrap yard in the middle of an alley. The smoke could be seen far away from the site, according to several Pattaya residents and netizens.

After arriving, the firefighters immediately jumped into action and successfully extinguished the blaze in under an hour. A large number of scraps such as planks, plastic bags, old wires, and a six-wheeler were destroyed. The Pattaya News asked Mr. Pornchai Khun-aim, 26, who is a worker at the yard, and was told that a worker was trying to gas-cut steel when a fire suddenly broke out.

The flames quickly spread, so the workers eventually had to contact the authorities. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

For more reasons than just air pollution, be happy you're not living in Beijing.

Sandstorms blanket Beijing and northern China as air pollution soars off the charts

A severe sandstorm has swept across Beijing and several northern provinces in China, blanketing the region in thick clouds of orange dust and sending air pollution soaring to hazardous levels, state weather authorities said on Wednesday.

Dense clouds enveloped the Chinese capital where the air quality index of PM10 – particles of pollution that are less than 10 micrometers in diameter and can enter through the nose and travel to the lungs – have exceeded monitoring charts, according to the Beijing Ecological Environment Monitoring Center.

Weather authorities in Beijing warned people not to go outdoors for exercise and other activities, and have asked drivers to stay vigilant and reduce speed because of low visibility.

Concentrations of PM10 particles hit 1,667 micrograms per cubic meter by 6 a.m. local time, according to Beijing’s monitoring center on Wednesday, with the agency calling it “the most severe sandstorm to date this year.”

I guess the worst of pollution in Pattaya is over for this year , been clear blue skies for the last week or so .. ?

Around the same time , humidity at night went up a few notches, noticed I was sweating a little when I walked to WS .. not sure if this is a coincidence?

I commented on yesterday's hash trail the Thai are more afraid of Covid than air pollution. What prompted the comment is the trail took us through an active burn off area. This was outside Pattaya near Asian University.

I wish the air had been that clear when I was there - every day I'd wake up to haze hanging down to the streets...

Amazing Thailand...

Just boggles the mind their idiotic response to dealing with the air pollution. It would be a far better use of the water if they dumped it on the fires.

North still cloaked in thick haze

"Pinsak Suraswadi, director-general of the Pollution Control Department, said that dense smog remained in these regions because of the large number of forest fires in the countryside, the many hotspots in neighbouring countries, and the stagnant air over the area."

Yep. It isn't farmers. It isn't individuals not maintaining their vehicles.........

“These factory owners, automobile companies, agribusiness owners are basically perpetuating slow violence, particularly on the poorest segments of society,”

EDIT= At least they didn't blame it on BoJo or Maggie for a change..
