Why is a drone in Bangkok more "on topic" to a thread entitled Air Pollution - Pattaya thread than is a reasonable discussion concerning alternative forms of environmentally more friendly forms of energy?

By the way...orange building in bsckground...The Auguston on 22. I saw them launching these things this morning from the firestation on 22 during my walk about.

One of those would sure be more efficient than a drone !

Ok, thats just frog style humor..... Hope you understand ....

For sure i get it.

BTW...I need to correct myself...Thai Govt does indeed classify the safe zone for PM2.5 differently than does the WHO....the WHO says safe is only 25ppm or below, whilst the Thai govt says 50ppm or below.

I do believe that is only band that varys and the unhealthy and dangerous zones have same criteria.

Governements set itself "national" limits, of course some aint daft and set limits (or "targets") so that their existing polution levels fit in or not exceed to much those limits. Hence big differences from one country to another.

Note that the USA has set very generous limit for the PM10, same level as China.....

WHO has a table that measures the danger for health. But it is only a informative guide line. Countries take them into account or not, or simply close their eyes.

Yes, but what do we have in the air ? 150 / 170 ......

And we need to take in consideration not only daily peaks, but yearly accumulation as shown on the "country" tables.  Not sure how they calculate those... and not interested in spending hours to search it.

Those polution numbers / standards are a headache and even more as everybody is trying to twist them, use different interpretations , twist the tests etc....all this with enormous economical and industrial interests in the background.

I have digged a bit in the matter in HKG and roughly everybody is happy to keep this a grey and "flexible" area.

Also, @ThaiSpice please, to compare China and USA when it comes to environmental practices is not only insane, but ignorant. You forget one little detail, that being the   the USA is a REPUBLIC, not a UNION, like the EU. Each State sets their own standards, the federal standard is just a minimum. Most States standards are significantly different than the Federal Standard and most exceed the Paris Climate Treaty Standards. And gee,...of course the USA emits more greenhouse gases, than Belgium or France. It's GDP is humongously bigger. These stats of total emmissions are a farce. How about measuring them as ratio to GNP.  (NOTE, there is a difference between GNP and GDP) Yep on a per capita population basis we use more energy than anyone, but hey, again, it is related as much to GNP as waste.

All the stats you posted above is TARGETS, not actual results. Not a single EU G20 country reached their targets in total emissions last year. The countries that pound there chest the most about the Paris Climate Treaty are ironically the countries that are missing the targets by the greatest amounts.

What is the old saying.....WALK THE TALK.....members or the Paris Climate Treaty are trying and doing some great things, and in "theory" it is beautiful. But they are not getting the results they are talking!

Can give you a hall pass on the ignorance of not knowing the how a Republic functions from a legislative point of view, but the fact you allege to of been in CHINA and would still make such an inference is just mind boggling?

I know some of the below headlines might not fit the MSM brainwashing job you have boughten into. I sure hope lil boy Macron can get a lid on the pot, cuz it looks like you guys are gonna miss your 2019 targets again just by the emissions going on from burning Paris down to revolt against environmental taxes.....jeez, talk about irony off the charts.

@STARGAZER,

Dont spoil interesting subjects by mixing politics , etc in it as it makes it boring to read.

And we have already one almigthy oracle that teaches us EVERYTHING, so we maybe dont need a 2nd one.

All what I post is light  hearthed, just hints, a bit of information, but sure never intended to be a lesson.

And if everybody does same it will keep the forum environment way more sympathic, a bit like a village place discussion on a Sunday morning .

Hoping you appreciate my non native speaker efforts in this answer all while keeping it very sociable......

Good night.

You must be confused and mis read somewhere I am arguing to legislate out existing forms...nothing could be further than the truth.

I carefully attributed my comment to "environmentalists", mindful of your statement that you were not one of those.  Although I thought of clarifying this, I didn't think it would be necessary after your disclaimer.  So now I'll clarify:  "Not that I'm referring to you, Ron."  kissing.gif

Once the conversation turns to The Great Global Warming Hoax™ and the efforts of various governments to cash in on that Hoax™ to increase their power and tax collections, mixing politics into it becomes inevitable.

The verb "teach" implies that others learn, so it doesn't apply, sadly.

With bad will you can interprete and manipulate the figures the way you want.

Of course electricity is not free....

Why does everyone seem to be rooting for this?  I have no intention of doing that, and would rather just give up posting.  I have a lot on my plate as it is anyway.

However, I'm not going to post on the condition that I'm willing to take a lot of shit to avoid being accused of being Mangosteen.  That will also cause me to give up posting.

It took a fair bit of persuading to get me on this board.  It will take almost none to get me off.
