john luke Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I had a discussion with another board member about this the other day. Call it mist, smog, haze, fog, pollution or whatever. I think it has got worse over the past week or so. That said it has not caused me any respiratory problems. Bangkok has its problems with air quality, but it is a large city. Pattaya a few miles away. Could it be a local cause; exhaust fumes from vehicles. What do others think. 1

All pictures taken at different times during the afternoon. Not photoshopped or de hazed in any way.
matthewh Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I mentioned about whiffs in a previous thread.it is what it is now.

Bazle Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I was going to start a topic on the same. I don't recall ever experiencing such bad pollution anywhere anytime. I went to Central Marina at the top of Second Road this afternoon. The air was seriously dirty; I had to get down to Beach Road ASAP. We've had a little rain this evening. We need a lot more to try to clean up the air. 2

dcfc2007 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 The level of air pollution over Bangkok and Pattaya is damaging to health. I read an article that suggested it was equivalent to smoking two cigarettes a day. 2

I noticed it in both Bangkok and Pattaya. It's literally a breath of fresh air here in Buriram. 1

Sir_Fondles Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 I noticed last month the smog seemed to be worse than usual, I also noticed the air monitoring vans I used to see parked around were not there. Might give the place a swerve next month and head to an island instead.
Thinkingallowed Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Yup it has been terrible some days.
Esco Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 I noticed Bangkok is still covered in smog. How is Pattaya now?

Yes I saw that mate so am wondering whether to go BKK or Pattaya the 3 days before we head back to Holland.

I have no way of measuring the quality, but I can breathe, albeit wheezily.... it's better along the beach than walking along soi buckhou, but there's nothing new there. I'll have a look to seaward on tomorrow's walk and see how clear it is
Painter Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 (edited) I'd agree. Not sure if the pics pick up the haze... Edited January 7, 2019 by Painter Add sea view, or lack of...
jcolorado Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 It is definitely worse than your pics show Painter. 1
misteregg Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 My open fronted bar has white fans inside and out. We clean them every week or when necessary and I usually look at the shit on them and wonder if all that is ending up in my lungs. 1

The air is fine, chimpers everywhere. 2 1

When I lived in HKG, 17th fl flat I cleaned the filters of my A/C's at least every month. They were black. Here I cleaned them after one year, and they were still nearly perfectly clean. We had glass top table there, 1 h after cleaning it you could see the dust again, here never had this problem. And our last visit to HKG in Oct, I could really feel the effect of the pollution on my body. Sure it is a slow killer.
