There was a Radio 1 DJ by the name of Andy Peebles who had the 8-10AM slot. One day he told a story of coming down to get the milk of the front step for breakfast. On there, as on most days, there was a few cassette tapes from wannabees. One of them containing this song which he played in the car on the way to work. Anyway after he told the story he played the track and in an unpresented move he told the story again towards the end of his show and also played the track again. Anyway the record shops started getting calls to buy it. By lunch time they could have sold a million copies. Dire Straits were not even signed up to any label. They were soon snapped up.
