A quote from a Pattaya Council member.

“They were never designed as wooden walkways, they were designed as rubbish collectors and as you can see from the pictures they worked perfectly, just a pity that nobody in the planning department foresaw that the wood would rot and would need replacing.
Quotations/Big Brown paper envelopes for the contracts will be accepted from next Monday. No plastic bags please, we must think of the environment”.

Whilst I applaud the move to force  motorbikes and cyclists out onto the road where they belong. It does show a certain disregard for those long suffering wheelchair users and there ability to enjoy the beach path like everybody else. Still, maybe there is more of this story to come.

Those words could equally be applied to most every footpath in town, with obstructions such as power / light masts, telecommunication junction boxes, raised drains making the paths impossible to navigate. Then also the various bars/restaurants/sales shops etc encroaching on the walkways too.
