Movies to watch

Toy Boy

one to avoid at all costs:

maxresdefault.jpg

Crap acting, crap dialogue, crap screenplay, full of anachronisms (modern signs on shops, satellite dishes on houses on a movie set in the 80's - fashions all wrong) .

I have seen few of these movies as the Rettendon murders were local to me at the time, but seriously this is just a waste of time, although there are a couple of funny scenes, not least when Pat Tate throws a snooker ball at his girlfriend when she's walking away and hits her on the back of the head with it.

Don't bother.

I watched The Black Phone this evening. A thirteen year old boy vs a serial killer. I liked it. More suspenseful than horror.

I watched that one two nights ago and thought it was pretty good, for what it is. Stephen King's It and It Chapter 2 didn't do much for me, partly due to their length, but at just 1 hr 42 m this is much more sensible. The kids' acting was good too. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it's decent entertainment.

I watched a David Cronenberg movie called "Eastern Promises" today. I was about 20minutes into it when I realized that I had seen it before, but I was enjoying the movie to the point that I stuck with it. It has a 7.6 IMDB.

Not great art, but I found it to be entertaining. It is an action/adventure flick with a high body count.

Finished watching the limited series "Gaslit" tonight. It has an IMDB rating of 7.2, which is trending up from an initial rating of 6.9. I would say higher 7s are warranted. Obviously, I enjoyed the series.

https://www.google.com/search?q=gaslit&source=hp&ei=mZz6YpO8N_HMz7sP-qau6AQ&iflsig=AJiK0e8AAAAAYvqqqWOBAxA7kQ6nK8qawfjy5ge-UARq&gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0zEoyt8zKTTE1YPRiS08szsksAQBOwQbw&oq=gaslit&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADIFCC4QgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBwgAEIAEEAoyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDoRCC4QgAQQsQMQgwEQxwEQ0QM6CwgAEIAEELEDEIMBOggILhCABBDUAjoICC4QgAQQsQM6CwguEIAEELEDEIMBOggIABCxAxCDAToFCAAQsQM6CAgAEIAEEMkDOggIABCABBCxA1AAWNUOYIc0aABwAHgAgAFOiAG0A5IBATaYAQCgAQE&sclient=gws-wiz

The 8 episode series covers the Watergate break-in and the subsequent political crisis. It centers on the Mitchels (played by Sean Penn and Julia Roberts) and also the Deans.

Well worth a watch IMO.

One thing I learned was that the rat bastard (G. Gordan Liddy) only served 4 years of his 34 year sentence and then went on to make significant money partially as a Faux News expert analyst.

I watched an old war movie from 1971 last night, 'Murphy's War' starring Peter O' Toole (yes, him of Lawrence of Arabia fame). It was probably just the mood I was in, but I really enjoyed it, even though parts are nonsense, like the German U-boat that was actually a US sub! It was a great example of the Hellraiser tradition, though, imagine having a night out on the town with him, Richard Burton, Oliver Reed and Richard Harris. I also love the fact that it was filmed on location on the Orinoco, I don't suppose the nutjob running Venezuela nowadays would allow that kind of Yankee Imperialist thing. O'Toole often did his own stunts, this is from Wiki:

For the scenes filmed in Malta that depict the burning of the merchant ship, O'Toole swam through water afire with oil and with explosives detonating all around him. He later said: "I used to do all my own stunts when I first started. I made it a principle. Everything in Lawrence of Arabia I did myself. But after suffering a paralyzed hand, a bad back, broken ankle and countless knocks, I decided never again. It was stupid. Films employ stunt men (for a reason!). They can do these things far better than I. I refused to do any more stunts. [Then] I thought, well, just one more time. So I talked myself into it. In Venezuela I even fly a seaplane. If you want to see a picture of sheer terror have a look at the shots of me when I first fly that seaplane."

Watched this last night..

About the kids stuck in the cave in Thailand a few years back

Brilliant watch the divers were absolute heroes a miracle anyone ever got out.

there are 2 movies of this event this one and another called The Cave rescue.

Then there is the National Geographic documentary that came out first and IMO far and away the best of the 3 as all the footage is of the actual event. No actors just the real life guys that got the kids out. it is brilliantIf you do a torrent search for The Rescue it is out there.

I watched it Saturday night and thought they had done a pretty good job of capturing the severity of the situation.

Well - I guess I would like to recommend the "Top Boy" TV series to Top Boy's thread.

This is a gangster drug trade story set primarily in London with a very heavy body count. Not sure what it says about me, but I enjoy shows like that, when they are well done. This one is well done. IMDB of 8.4.

It is a Netflix series and it is available on IPT.

Porn.King.The.Rise.and.Fall.of.Ron.Jeremy 1st episode very interesting

Haven’t seen it, but I honestly could not believe this story when it broke. For a man who has banged 5,000+ ladies to do the crap he’s accused of, assault, confinement etc….why??? And I’ve seen first degree murder suspects with lower bail than $6M…..not surprised none of his old friends stepped up at that amount

That’s what I was thinking….The movie roles dried up but he was still a very horny bugger, not used to being told no. But when I saw him in the courtroom, first thought was “Ron Jeremy raping someone, is like having a wank in Pattaya”

In case anyone is living in a well fortified cave and does not know this already, S01E01 of "House of the Dragon" (a Game of Thrones prequel) aired last night (US Time). It is available on IPT. One should read some of the comments about the audio for the versions available on IPT. I found a good one, but had to look around a little.

The highly anticipated show is getting very good reviews. It has an initial IMDB rating of 8.8. I plan to watch it this afternoon.

A friend recommended this limited series to me the other day. I am about 1/2 way through it and it is outstanding.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Offer

This is about the filming of "The Godfather". I am guessing that this is a historically based drama.

An IMDB of 8.7 is well deserved IMO.

this was outstanding.  thank you.  as I have the flu right now I binge watched it and its an excellent miniseries, almost as good as the godfather itself.  so much so that I watched the GF afterwards for the umpteenth time
