An old frog Indonesians exploration

Seems the video guy from the Jaranan band already uploaded 3 videos on YouTube.

Here is one.  It's a bit long, the most active part is after 35:00 .

This is one of the favorite dance / fights things here in Java. I am not an expert but a lot of visitors told those particular guys were pretty good.

The dancers do only the dancing / fighting, the words come from the long hair guy in bleu shirt on the stage.  Instruments, you will recognize a similarity with the music of Thai boxing.

My comment is that this must be very physical, it goes on for 30 to 45 min, then a break and start again. All this with the costume and under the heat.

Whoever put those hideous orange chairs at the tables with those beautiful flags ought to be whipped on his testicles with wet towel aswell as having his ears stuffed with rhubarb compote.  😀

Good timing boys !

Just back in the jungle since yesterday.  So, yep expect some updates to come .

And as I bought the Miss a new ride, I may borrow it to tour the village a bit !

Beats the Scoopy motorcycle she wanted, and gives her some exercise as well !

And no, I didn't choose the color.....

OK, a few pics of the birthday BBQ.  Nothing fancy, in fact it is more for the family and some neighbours to have another occasion to be together than for me.

This time on top of the usual chicken, we (well, the brother) went to the seaside, about 30 / 45 min from here to buy fresh sardines.

20190610_104942.jpg

And as "special delicacy" the son had hunted a bit of those big lizzards, top left in the red bowl. No, I didn't try …...

Of course a few "exotic" sauces are mandatory :

Weather at the moment is perfect, probably 20 / 21 C in the evening

The youngsters comparing the local wine, with the Bali rose…..

Even managed a birthday cake !

Fraulein Indo managing the cut and distribution of the cake :

As you see, very simple thing but keeps the social life going and the Miss is always happy to invite people and organize something.

OK, seems we have received the pictures and video of the wedding, so today's job will be to see if I can copy some and post them here.

Cheers !

So, I have seen the pictures taken during the wedding by the "pro", not bad. The only problem is they ALL, except 1 show only the groom and the bride …...

Here is the only one I could find where this humble pensioner appears, with the Miss and on the other side brother in law, who is a bit  my coach / mentor during ceremonies here.  In fact if you look good you will see my eyes are turned to him, because at that moment it was a part of prayers when you have a small basket of various flowers and you have to pick a specific one for a certain prayer, then drop it and take the next one etc.… Hence me watching closely which one he was gonna pick next.

DSCN0102.JPG

I have also seen the video, pretty well done. I have it on DVD, will try to get it on a USB stick and upload to YouTube with a link here. My micro laptop has no DVD player.

Do you remember I mentioned about recording the various donations, cash and goods ?  Well here is how the books look like now :

One single book for the goods donations, nearly exclusively brought by women. Colums are : name / village / goods description

Gula = Sugar / Mi = noodles / Minyak = cooking oil

20190610_093313-768x1024.jpg

20190610_093220-768x1024.jpg

For the "cash" donations, remember there were 2 points to drop your enveloppe, one for men and one for women. This has  to do with religion and men can not offer money to women etc.…  Hence there are 2 separate books :

20190613_132637-768x1024.jpg

20190613_132458-768x1024.jpg

20190613_132618-768x1024.jpg

The purpose of it being that when one of those persons has a wedding celebration in the future, you can make a gift equivalent to the one they made us. Fair and no loss of face on any side.

This is normal practice in most Asian countries.

Speaking about future weddings, there is one planned for Brother 1 granddaughter at the end of the coming week. Lets see if I can make some pics.

To be followed .

In my wife's village when anybody dies the headsmen goes around the village collecting 500 baht from each household to help pay for the funeral expenses.

They know that when the day comes when a member of the family living in the village passes away they won't need to find the money for the funeral.

I went to pay a visit at eldest brother house, where a wedding is in full preparation.  Big ceremony is for tomorrow, but this fine diplomat "unfortunately" is heading back to Bali early morning so I will miss it…….

Anyway let's start with a few pics of the cooking area and food preparation.  It is globally the same as what we had 6 weeks ago.

General view :

The cooking stations :

OK, 2nd batch to follow.

A few more.

The wedding "podium".  Yep, bigger and more "glamour" than ours but more expensive…..

Marquee, stage, chairs, tables, pots and pans, dishes, including mobilization and demobilization 11 Mil IDR  (24,000 Thb). The groom works overseas (Malaysia) and makes  decent money. Well, for this area.

DSCN0130.JPG

Inside the house, the kitchen. Not bad !

DSCN0116.JPG

Living room set to welcome any visitor with cookies, water, tea,.... (No, they didn't have beer or J.D. …)

DSCN0136.JPG

A look outside.

The D.J. boot is nearly ready to fire !

DSCN0143.JPG

In front of the house things are slowly being installed.  No stress or running here, never…..

DSCN0149.JPG

Neighbours house. Watch the speakers on the left of the pic… he will enjoy free music for 48 h !

DSCN0141.JPG

And a view both ways on the "street".  This is the standard around here. Only main road, asphalted, is a few km away.

DSCN0138.JPG

DSCN0145.JPG

OK boys, that's it for today !

Hope the weather stays fine for the wedding, a few dark clouds hanging around....

Weather has been cool last week and this week. Most enjoyable for me.

Looking at the sky now, very little chance of rain.

Meanwhile the music is at full blast, and even if brother house is about 1 km from ours, I can "enjoy" it without problem .....  Oops, Miss just told me its another one...closer by. 🙈🙈

OK, back in jungle mode… so a few pics taken Saturday morning on arrival.

First stop is at small convenient shop a few kms from home for some Bintang.  Note the Hi So area, no grey concrete tables but a colourfull picnic area :

The works to widen the main road continue slowly, slowly and the road is becoming more convenient. Note that there  is 3 km of dirt track from this road to our neighbourhood.

20190720_083135.jpg

The fields around here. Main plantations : oranges, dragon fruit, corn, green beans, peanuts… :

20190720_085445.jpg

20190720_085449.jpg

And some pics of houses around here. Some pretty ones, and I am surprised by renovation works going on non stop on the older houses. Origin of the money : the fruit culture and a remittance of overseas workers, male and female working in Malaysia, HKG, SGP.

The house next next door from ours :

And the Imperial Residence ….. :

DSCN0069.JPG

You will  note the absence of shiny cars or pick ups in front of the houses !  Very, very few people have cars around here.

OK, to be followed !

So, as I indicated it is New Year again here on the Bali Hindu calender.  As this calendar has a cycle of 210 days, well i's N.Y. every 7 months !

This is in fact a Bali thing, but as here we are very close to Bali, about 20% of the population is Hindu and keep their traditions.

Houses are decorated with bamboo poles, and people pay visit to each other.

The "penjor" or bamboo pole fabrication :

First, a long, sligthly curved at the top bamboo pole is bought (25,000 IDR  55 Thb) and then is it decorated. All the decoration is made from leaves taken around the house, except of the part that hangs from the top.

The bare bamboo at the start :

Decorations are prepared by the girls and women from the family :

20190721_155138.jpg

And the arrangement on the bamboo pole is done by the men :

A small table is fixed at the bottom for offerings.

Last part for today :

Preparing offerings for the temple this morning (the honorable frog being Christian can unfortunately not accompagne them as I explained….)

And the table is ready with drinks and snacks to receive visitors for the coming 3 days !  Which means that during those 3 days I can expect to meet and greed a LOT of people, as of course everybody want to see "long nose" ….😃

Dont worry, I have Bintang in my quarters !
