Loads of her big outdoor installations have been stolen for scrap metal and even local councils have removed them not being aware of what they were. She was what you might call Abstract in her style......... my fave pics were Kirkstall Abbey. Henry 8th and Oliver Cromwell have a lot to answer for. Fountains Abbey is not far either. Beautiful places in any weather ....

Horizondave
Thanks for the pics but I would prefer to walk around that lovely park area with all the exhibits removed; they, to me, are mostly a blot on the landscape. john luke
Leeds Industial Museum is located near to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire, just off Canal Road which is in the Armley Area of Leeds. Armley is of course famous for Her Majesty's Prison, Leeds. Admission is £4.50 and car parking is free. Photography is allowed however the use of flash is not. The museum generally covers the textile industry and heavy engineering from a perspective of Leeds. There is also an early cinema and a section on photography generally plus a very early computer. john luke
Kirkstall Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery in Kirkstall, north-west of Leeds city centre in West Yorkshire, England. It is set in a public park on the north bank of the River Aire. It was founded c. 1152. It was disestablished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII. What remains is a shell of the building which was the monastery and a museum located on the other side of Kirkstall Road. 3

Great pics, whenever i used to fly from Heathrow to Leeds and get the bus to the city centre, driving past the Abbey was a highlight of the journey. john luke
The Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park, The Hutts, Grewelthorpe, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 3DA. Positioned in a valley, the Himalayan Gardens near Ripon in North Yorkshire, provides a microclimate that makes it fertile ground for the rare Himalayan blue poppy. With three lakes and an arboretum, the gardens feature the north’s largest collection of rhododendrons with over 1,400 varieties. It’s home to an internationally recognised art collection with 90 striking contemporary sculptures in the landscape. The gardens in Grewelthorpe near Ripon were donated in 2012 to a Charitable Trust, The Hutts Foundation, by Peter and Caroline Roberts. The charity aims to advance the arts, horticulture and the environment, including the cultivation of rare and endangered plants. In recent years, the attraction has won national acclaim. Shortlisted for the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2020, the gardens featured on BBC Countryfile’s autumn special last year, and were winners of the Yorkshire in Bloom Tourist Attraction Award in 2018 and 2019 and Best Business 2019.Last year, Joanna Lumley, a passionate advocator of the Gurkhas, became patron of the charity, describing the gardens as a “slice of heaven.” A log cabin Tea Room serves a range of hot and cold drinks and a delicious variety of food options and a half way horsebox in heart of the garden provides lighter refreshments. Children can enjoy the woodland playground area and look out for the fairy doors dotted around the Garden. Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead. Admission is £9 per person; parking is free.

john luke
I got a new lens today and wanted to try it out somewhere today. The weather varied between bright sunshine and torrential rain so I had a short walk on the banks of Leeds Liverpool Canal at Rodley, which is on the outskirts of Leeds.
john luke
Had a commitment nearby this morning so I took a walk along the Main Street of Saltaire. The place was, as one would expect very quiet; some shops open. The place was originally made famous by Sir Titus Salt but then reinvented by a group of Thailand247 members as one of the activities of the Leeds Meet in 2018. Weather today was pretty dull, but that is not unexpected at this time of the year.
