What a great thread. When we moved to UK in 1976 I spent two years in Skipton. By 18 I couldn’t wait to see the bright lights and left but my Mam remained until she passed away and my sister is still there. I went back a few times and took my son to meet his Nan about 6 years ago. I enjoyed my time there and have some good memories of it.

This is approximately 5.5 miles from home.  It was a pleasant morning and I had not been far away from home since early January so I decided I would visit today.  I was there for about 90 minutes and during this time the weather varied from bright sunshine to dull with light rain.  The Abbey and museum were closed per UK lockdown regulations but one could walk around the perimeter of the abbey.  A pleasant walk with the camera.  I used a wide angle lens for the shots so there is a little distortion towards the edges of some photographs.  I know I have posted pictures from here before. lol.🙂

For the first time this year I ventured into Leeds City Centre. The main thing that hits you is how empty and devoid of people and traffic it is. This genuinely surprised me.  Obviously non essential retail and hospitality closed.  Advantage is being taken of the lack of people/traffic and a lot of road works are being undertaken.  Leeds Market, which is normally busy from Tuesday through to Saturday was very quiet.

From this morning's walk between 0930 and 1030 am.  Photos are taken in local park and around bus station near to market place.  Whilst weather looked great, there was a strong wind and temperatures down to between 4 and 5 degrees centigrade.  Still fairly quiet with most people following lockdown rules.

This is a local political hot potato at the moment.  The land is located on the green belt on  the outskirts of Leeds but within Bradford City Council jurisdiction.  Bradford City Council want to build a road on the land and there is opposition to this proposal mainly from residents who live on the outskirts of Leeds close to this area.  I make no representations on the proposed road development but the photographs represent the area as it is now.  If anyone is interested one of the groups opposing the development has a Facebook group.

Otley Farmers' Market takes place on the last Sunday of each month in the market square at Otley.  Fairly typical Farmers Market; rules say everything sold should be grown or made within 50 miles of the locus.  I did notice the stall selling Rhubarb which is traditionally grown in Yorkshire.

After the Farmers' Market, a walk around Otley Town Centre.  The burial ground around the church has gravestones dating back to the early 1820 s.  Amazing how well they have remained preserved.  Otley has always had plenty of Pubs, obviously now closed.  Finally down to the river.

Tittybottle Park.

The first Tittybottle Park could have been in Redcar, although today it is beneath the roundabout in front of the famous vertical pier. It is said to have been given its name by an end-of-the-pier comedian who spotted young mothers in there feeding their babies.

Most Tittybottle Parks are small affairs with benches and, like Eaglescliffe, are on the edge of well-to-do Victorian developments, where the homeowners could afford nursemaids to help with their babies. The nursemaids would take their perambulators to the nearest bit of park and sit and gossip with their fellows while giving the infant a tittybottle.

We learn something new every day!!

Really nice pics JL...just beautiful. Can I ask a dumb question? Is the British Open played anywhere near there?

It moves around to a few different locations but I don’t think any are in Yorkshire.

Also remember that the UK is about the size of Florida so nothing is really that far away compared to the US.
