Yep been wanting to do this for sometime now and a good friend Doug is in town now I asked him if he was interested in going he was so off we went. The train is a long slow ride.Takes about 5 hours with 27 stops along the way. But lots of things to see along the way. No Air Con this route only 3rd class fan cars but with the windows open was not uncomfortable at all. As the title says less than a US dollar just 31 baht. I was really expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised. The following photos are a combination of Doug's and mine and are just a mix of the train travel and the area where we we went out and had looks at.

Damn it Larry, typical Yankee. Stop overspending and ruining it for the rest of us, we’re on a budget.

Did you tip the attendants too?

Done loads of train trips in Thailand similar to this, quite like trains actually they are fun. A few months ago went from Kanchanaburi to Hua Hin, needed to change trains half way but still perfectly fine.....even had an old fashioned points change.

Nice job. Enjoyed it !

My dad used to take the IC (Illinois Central) to/from work every day. My mom would drive him to the station each morning so she could use the car. I'd go with her to pick him up after work. Dad used to say.... "That damn train just poked and poked". But I was fascinated with it and finally got to go on it.

One Saturday Mom and Dad took us to the station. Dad, little brother and I took the train one stop. I wanted to ride on it all day. Mom picked us up at the next station.

Great memories.

Great post again on the trains...

I've never understood why the train station is where it is in Pattaya as its right out of the way..

Not only out of the way not a place you would want to park your vehicle as I wouldn't think it would be always attended the train station is not open 24 hours here as it is in the bigger towns

Thanks for the review Larry, another option for travel if time is not a consideration.

I was in Princess Street Gardens in Edinburgh and these two ladies from the USA were looking up at Edinburgh Castle and one remarked to the other:

"Gee, that Castle is really something. Shame they built it right next to the railway station."
