He never made it beyond skint and it's only getting worse. The record companies are a disgrace, made millions from artists but what do they put back ? I love cover bands, but again going back to Jacko he wanted to support new talent, and pretty much subsided their development, and hence is a local hero in the Hull/.East Yorkshire music scene. A life well lived, R.I.P Jacko Yeah, sounds like a proper top fella. RIP Jacko.

The FB post had more pics and video of the Thai bathing ceremony for Dave. RIP Dave https://www.facebook.com/groups/Canterburytalesguesthouse/posts/25919544961071841/ I've been off the forum for the last 9 days so missed this sad event. Dave was one of the nicest and humourous guys I've ever met. Always up for an interesting chat with a few jokes and some interesting anecdotes. I remember when Canterbury Tales was on pothole in the early days, and the regulars would watch guys going into the massage joints opposite, sometimes giving a round of applause when they came out. The first time I was the recipient of one such round of applause and went on over, had a great afternoon with Dave, and asked him is the lads could give me a standing ovation the same time tomorrow, but not him obviously. He took it in the good humour which it was intended, and the following day after my rub and tug, I came out to an ovation and Dave had a bloody klaxon which he must have purloined from an Air Raid warden!. RIP Dave, you'll be missed by many.

Ended up staying 3-4 nights, really enjoyed it. Cheap spacious room, only thing was (again newbie not knowing better),the after-hours entrance to your room could only be done by 6/1, well I came back pissed a couple nights, and was a little scared of the 6’ tall ladyboys who propositioned me, they could be quite aggressive. And coming from Beach Road was way worse, obviously , Bert’s was on the corner of 2nd Road The only time we really chatted was my check-in, I remember he was very protective of his wife and staff. One second he was like “welcome to Pattaya mate, you’re really going to have fun”, then when I was curious(as a newbie) if his waitress was “available”, his tone immediately changed “don’t even think about mate” 😂😂😂 RIP Bert

A lot of ex sports players struggle with life after retirement, and many have committed suicide. I read a book once about a German goalkeeper who took his life the same way. He was Robert Enke, 32 years old and stood in front of an approaching train. He had lost his daughter to heart problems. The problem today is that you have too many whiny teenagers going on about mental health when they are just normal issues, yet the people who genuinely need help don’t get it.

It was on a level crossing apparently and shunted the car 100 yards up the road. I must admit I thought it might have been suicide, but having worked on the Railway, I can tell you that trains are actually very quiet when moving towards you, either slowly or at speed - the noise you hear is the sound of the stock on the track as it passes you, and with continuously welded track, there's no longer the "clackety clack" we used to hear years ago. An approaching passenger unit like the one in the pic is going to be without engine noise as they're electric as well. Not wanting to speculate but maybe he got on the Xing, stalled or had car trouble and then the train came out of nowhere.

I expect though that trains are required to announce their approach to a level crossing with blast of their horn well in advance of the crossing. But like you pointed out, car trouble at the worst possible moment isn't going to be helped by blasts from a horn.

I read "Manwatching" about 3 times over the years and it offered an incredible outlook on life and human behaviour. If you've not read it, or even glossed over it then it is cheap on ebay and well worth a read.
