Renting a bicycle in or near Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

I'm due to visit the temples and beaches of Pattaya next week for a few weeks. Having been inspired by @forcebwithu and his pictorial essays of cycling in the general area I thought I would give it a go. Rather than lug my bike I would like to rent a bicycle (not motorbike).

Anyone with experience with this?  There was a website suggested for Venture Cycles, but the site is parked and dead. I think it was in Jomtien,

I am not afraid to go exploring to find a place, it is all part of the adventure of a holiday.

I've no experience with renting a bike here, but Venture Cycles has a FB page with contact info.

Here's a couple of other shops you can contact about bike rentals.

SV Bike on Thepprasit

Eastern Bike on Sukhumvit, near the 3240 intersection

Hmmm, not sure riding a bicycle in Thailand, specially Pattaya, is safer than a motorbike ....

IMHO probably even more dangerous.

I cycle around Bangsaray about 5 mornings a week and it is nothing far short of a miracle that I have not been hospitalised.

Many car drivers simply ignore that I even exist particularly when they pull out of turnings or worse turn right across me either not seeing me or assuming I will brake in time before being wiped out.

See no reason why Pattaya could be any safer as there is a lot more traffic.

My experience in Pattaya and the outlying areas has been different. In the eight years of biking can only think of two times I've had someone pull out in front of me to the point it scared the shit out of me. There have been other times, but in those cases I was expecting the other driver to do something stupid so had already begun to alter course to pass behind the vehicle turning in front of me, or slowed down enough or come to a complete stop to avoid an accident.

Same as riding a motorcycle, practice defensive riding, keep the head on a swivel and maintain situational awareness.

I am familiar with avoiding cars. In planet Perth they usually do not see bikes which I can deal with, it is the ones that target cyclists that cause most issue. Having been a cab driver for almost 10 years dealing with the other drivers  prefer to cycle on cycle paths when possible. I realise that this is less of an option in Pattaya, but there are some paths from what I have seen.I have been hit by motorcycles walking in Pattaya, I have walked all over the darkside and Pattaya when I lived there, so have an understanding of the drivers there.

Hell I like living dangerously, some take up adventure sports, I get on a bicycle.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will follow them up.

I know the one on Sukumvit as I used to catch the songtao from just there to my shop in Pong. Was not sure if it was still there.
