Siem Reap - Hotel Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am planning on a three or four day trip to Siem Reap next month.  I have done a search through Expedia.co.uk (where prices are quoted in Sterling), but I am still undecided as to where to stay.  Mrs JL will be with me so I am not interested in P4P at all.

The main purpose is to see the Ankor Wat UN heritage site as well as any other locations of interest in the town.  I am also a big fan of Asian Markets.

My criteria for hotel roughly is:

  1. Four or Five start hotel.
  2. Dining room in hotel and lobby, bars etc must be fully enclosed and air conditioned. Needless to say room fully air conditioned.
  3. Assuming the Night Market is in the centre of the town, I would like a hotel somewhere within walking distance of the market.  Otherwise pretty central location.
  4. Proximity of good fully enclosed and air conditioned restaurants would be a bonus, though I am not adverse to dining on occasions in large markets.
  5. Not too far away from Ankor Wat
  6. Marriot Hotel does seem to fit but alternatives welcome.

If members have visited, any advice and guidance would be appreciated.  It is over five years since I last visited and on that occasion I travelled by road and had a package (booked in Thailand) which included tours and activities on all days.  On this occasion I would be looking trips etc locally and navigating the town under my own steam.

Many thanks.

Stayed there myself about 6 years ago.Did have a trip report on Secrets forum but it got lost in the changeover a couple of years ago.Good hotel and great location.I should still have some pics on my laptop so will try and find them.

Booked a day trip to the Angkor temples, but the guide did it in reverse to many tour companies so it was not too busy.Think i paid about $30 for the trip plus $20 for admission to the temples.

Not filling most of the requirements on your list. But I always stay at the Shadow of Angkor. I think now it is called Shadow of Angkor Residence. It is right on the river walk and just a around the corner of their pub street ( ? ) and just down the street from the night market. It is very clean and within walking distance to most the action and restaurants

Looking at the river.....

Love Angkor Wat, would happily go back there. That said though Pub Street is awful now, normally too knackered after the temples to be that bothered. Hope you have a great trip.

Is there a separate walk-in shower, I am not a great lover of baths in hotels.

Nice room though.

I've stayed at the Golden Butterfly Villa a few times, it's near the centre but in a quiet street. I'm normally a 4/5* kinda guy too but this place really impressed me. It's got very high ratings on all the hotel and review sites and they can organise any trips you want. The customer service every time I've been has been as good as the 5* corp chains and sometimes better. Pickup from airport, comp 60 min massage all included in room rate. The fact it's still only US$27 a night for the best room is just hilarious for how good it is overall.
