This article gives a proper inside view on HKG's social-economic problems that are an important causeof the recent events.

Even if the topic is "the demonstrations have made our life even more difficult" it clearly admits the deep inequalities that exist in HKG, where 1 person in 5 is living under the official poverty level.

Horrible lodging conditions being at the top. Several YouTube videos on this.

Hong Kong since decades (even under British rule) is run by tycoons for the benefit of tycoons.
