Today I took my 3 year old “pub car” for its first MOT.
It’s done 8,600 from when I bought it new of tinternet.
It dawned on me whilst I was waiting, that this is the first time I’ve ever put any of my many cars through an MOT. 🤔
Of course it passed.
Quite why the government still insist on a 3 year old car need an MOT is beyond me.
They should raise it, so that the first MOT should be required at around 5-6 years for modern cars, but I suppose they get a percentage of the fee, so it’s easy money for HMG. 😡

When we lived on the Isle of Man 1997-8 there was no MOT.

Some right old wrecks driving around.

That, is a Moindial T Convertible, I had the pleasure of one a few times, a very underrated car, it had the 3.4litre engine from the 348TB in it and was pretty much perfectly balanced. The only Ferrari i've ever driven that was a relaxing comfy drive.

Love em, now resale prices of the R8 are getting sensible which opens them up for more not so wealthy buyers. Did'nt we have a boardie on Schh "Piemelty" or something like that who had one and posted pics of it, it was a beauty.
Audi's are great quality cars imo, i loved my TT.
I started with a V8 coupe manual. Now have a V10 spyder s tronic, couldn't find a manual cb79159fd173124bed64a2aaf38c2fd3.jpg76f11a40b5f0e9542651a916514b4a06.jpg

Well i had the 348TB and i have to say it was like driving a super fast tractor what with the gated gear shift but it was a "looker" imo

Did you have an early one with the non-assisted steering? That was really good, ultra-direct and loads of feedback. They spoiled it when they added PAS.

A Ferrari isn't a Ferrari for me unless it's got the gated shift, and even better if it's a dogleg :-0) Getting the cross plane shifts absolutely click-click spot on is what it's all about for me driving old Ferrari's.

The 348tb was the first "modern" V8 Ferrari, first longitudinal engine mounting which really made a huge difference over the 308/328. They didn't get the weight dist and suspension setup quite right though first go, it was skittish on the limit for sure, which is why they made the 348GTB which is apparently a lot lot better (never tried the GTB) before they put everything they'd learnt into the F355. Drove it in the snow once. Very carefully!

Edit, oh, and hope you managed to have a single plate clutch one!

Here ya go, it was a 1991 model with 17k miles on the clock when i bought it in 2001, it was as new but had PAS. I could'nt get on with the gated gear shift no matter how hard i tried, reverse was where 1st gear traditionally is and 1st gear was where 2nd usually is, i did'nt like it but i had some fun in it.

I remember discussing this car with you in Pattaya, and gated shifter or not I am still green with envy - I am a lifelong Ferrari fan but the only time I have ever been in or driven one was in Las Vegas on a race track where I rented an F430 for a few laps - I would kill for a ride or drive in a classic model from the '60s but with the "collectors" (better term "speculators") driving their values sky-high that wish gets more remote as time goes by - one of the prices I've paid for living in a remote area during my lifetime.

Yeh, prices are getting silly now. I was at a Supercar event yesterday, they had 5 F50s there amongst many others. Friend of mine has a nice collection of lambos including a countach

I regularly look at the pricing in the UK for 348/355/360's and i would agree with you, silly prices indeed. I paid 38500GBP's back in 2001 and probaly should have kept hold of it but it was a second car that spent a lot of its time in my garage doing nothing just looking beautiful (not a very practical car for everyday driving in lots of respects). I'd satisfied my boyhood dream of owning a red Ferrari so it was time after a couple of years to say goodbye.

Does your friend let you have a drive of his lovelies ?
