Very similar to my accident in the bathroom with a slippery floor a few days ago. It all happens too quickly, no amount of processing power can stop it

Yes maybe, but that thing has 4 feet and it still can’t stay upright.  😉 What’s gonna happen when it cocks it’s leg at every lampost and tree it passes. 🤣

I'm starting to take a closer look at where my food is from. Unfortunatly I'm afraid a lot of it is from China. Dog knows what they spray on it and is in the water they use to grow it.

I'm thinking of looking at a TCL aircon unit to replace my aging Mitsubishi 24K unit as its constantly needing repair. Anyone have experience of owning one, if so whats your thoughts ? TIA 👍

Mr. Pump,  i have no experience with TCL a/con's but i have 2 x Haier units both of which have worked perfectly for about 3 years now. they are both 18,000BTU and they have a great feature of a button on the remote to turn off the LED display which can be quite bright in a dark bedroom. Chinese brand but made in Thailand.

You may have already seen this from just a couple of weeks ago on Aseannow, but this guy seems to rate TCL highly and appears to have plenty of experience.

I'm reading some very good reports from users who have TCL aircons and considering they are much cheaper than other units (my Mitsubishi cost me circa 40K and a TCL would be 17500)

Not all Chinese products are poor quality just most of them lol, i think when i replace my Mitsubishi i'll go for the TCL.

Many products you see in these cheap 'roadside" (everything but the kitchen sink type places) shops sell contanminated goods.

Yesterday on a walk I noticed a place selling small butt wipes for 10 baht. I had a look because I needed to restock. The second I picked up a pack I sensed something was off. There was a gritty sand like feel to it. I dropped it instantly and walked out. Kind of made me a bit nauseated. I could tell the wipes had been soaked in flood water.

Almost all of Apple products are made in China and nobody says they are cheaply made and bad quality.

I used to own a Chinese factory (With a Chinese partner) just across the border from Hong Kong when it was independent from China, and the choice was always mine, did I want cheap crap or a quality product, they would eagerly do either.

IMHO, its not the Chinese who decide to build crap but the buyers.

How the hell do they even manufacture those for that price, let alone sell them to make a profit?

When I had my factory there in the 90's I paid them $90USD a month, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, including a dorm room and food.

Back in 1999 we employed 2 maids to look after us in Hua Hin, with cleaning house, doing the laundry etc, and working in the coffee shop.

20 x 9 hour days a month (any extra days were at 1.5 x daily wage) at 6000 Baht (£79) each, every 4 weeks.
Plus free breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Money for motorcycle fuel and maintenance, (they used the motorcycle to run to the market and other errands for us) uniforms and extra money for help with one child’s food and school costs, plus 5 weeks paid holidays each year, something that neither had ever been paid for before.

This was well above the going wage rates at that time for unskilled workers and the work wasn’t hard or difficult as there was only the two of us in a house that wasn’t large.

My wife and I always agreed that if we were going to employ anyone then they should be well compensated and happy in our employment and not treated like cheap skivvies as most uneducated Thai girls were.

Worked well and they are still employed now in the coffee shop 25 years later and have received yearly wage rises plus other extra benefits and perks. Over the years as the business got busier the workforce has increased to 12-16 all on the same pay rates, increased every year.

Not sure how that compares with wages and conditions in China back then, but I do know I slept well knowing that our employees were treated well by us.

That should qualify for a long time employment bonus.

Are you implying that because I paid the low (but prevailing)  wage, I did not treat them well?

Almost all came from the interior, were 18 years old and with the uniform, they all looked alike! If they could find a job, the pay was 25US$ a month and they needed money to pay for their dowry to get married. They only spent maybe 10% of their salary, lasted a year or so, then went back to their homes to get married.

They always thanked us when they left and a few gave a small present for the job.

If I had meant to say you didn’t treat them well, be assured, I would have said so in no uncertain terms.

Read my post again, I said “Not sure how that compares with wages and conditions in China back then”.

You seem to be unable to comprehend what is written, but prefer to put your own slant on it. Not for the first time I might add.

However, now you mention it, our employees worked 4 hours a day less than yours and one day less a week, for what was approximately the same wages and in MUCH better conditions, considering they worked in a beachfront house with fresh sea air and views of the sea, not blue painted factory walls. 👌
Plus, I very much doubt you gave them 5 weeks paid holiday each year, or any bonuses and the other many perks we gave to our employees.

I’ve seen those “dormitory cities” and wouldn’t want any employees of mine living in one. Basically it’s up at 5 am, work 12 hours eat go to bed and do that 6 days a week, 7 if required, all without a break.

“Lasted a year or so” really says it all to me.

But I do understand that Communist China’s employment record and living conditions for factory workers is different to Thailand and we all know why. It’s probably the main reason they can turn out so much 💩💩💩 so cheaply.

As for “Dowry’s” in Thailand my FIL to be, was adamant he didn’t want one, he wanted a son in law and his daughter want me as a husband and he felt strongly that he wasn’t going to sell his daughter to another family.

Seems I’ve struck a nerve regarding you being an employer in Communist China, don’t worry, there are hundreds of foreigners just like you, making use of very cheap labour there as well. 🤨

Actually we did. The entire factory was shut down for Chinese New years and it was typical to pay everybody a extra months pay.

And how many employees did you have? I had up to 900 so please don't compare the two.

Really?  They were clean, secure and typical of all employee housing that was free.

Nobody ever worked 7 days a week, and of course they received breaks.

Why do you find that so offensive?

None were looking for a life time job, their goal was to make enough money to return and get married, which typically took a year.

First, the Communist Government had nothing to do with our hiring as we used private agency's.

Second, I lived part time in Thailand and my workers were better off on average than similar workers in Thailand.

The Chinese tradition of a Dowry and the Thai "Sin Sot" (sp) are totally different and you cant compare them.

No, you did strike any "nerves", as I am just correcting your bias toward me and the Chinese with facts.

The Chinese DO NOT pay their employees 1 months paid holiday each year, especially not employees who have only worked for them for 1 year, which, as you admitted, would have been ALL your 900 employees

And you admitted to working your employees 4 hours longer each day then the normal working day.

Me thinks I did strike a nerve and my “bias” is shared by half the world regarding how the Chinese government treat their own people. Or worse, how they let foreigners treat their people.
You must have been wearing blinkers all the time you spent in China FFS!

“First, the Communist Government had nothing to do with our hiring as we used private agency's”

Are you for real! Everything done in China is done under the supervision of the communist government. Including the backhanders given to local officials by those “agents” you refer too to be able to hire workers and operate any business.

1 or 900 makes no difference, it’s how you treat them.
Stop 😭😭😭
