Popular Post forcebwithu
We had a bit of rain the last few days, so let's see what effect, if any it had on the Mabprachan Puddle. In a nutshell, no effect. And if anything, the level is lower than the last update on the 16th. This pump is new since the last update. But it wasn't running this morning. When I made my way over to the pumping station I was a surprised to hear the pumps running. But looking at the channel feeding the pumps I could see no movement of water, nor could I feel water moving through the big pipes exiting the pumps. My guess is they're periodically running the motors to knock off the rust and dust, but not pumping any water. Back in September 2015 they sucked this area dry. This time around they probably figure it's not worth the effort for the small amount of water left here. Still watering the grass in the park. The report total is now at 37.15 MCM, a decrease of only 1 MCM from the previous week. While the chart below lists the three reservoirs in the above chart as still having usable water, it could be the reality is they're now in the same condition as Mabprachan and they've stopped pumping there too. The Eastern Water Resources Dept released their 24 April weekly water situation report (link). This chart shows only a small decrease of .8 MCM from the previous week. The chart below however reports a decrease of 9.69 MCM which doesn't not match the week to week numbers in the above chart. In the end it probably doesn't matter as the result is the same, the reservoirs are out of usable water.

Jambo
I wonder how much more serious it would have been if the town had been full of tourists and all the Hotels etc had been open and using water? It has been so dry for so long I imagine the recent rain would have not sunk in and evaporated within a day or so.

No doubt the water shortage would have been much worse and the reservoirs would have run dry several weeks sooner.

Is there enough or a noticeable shortage, and it is the same everywhere or does it differ per village/soi?

As the water receded I noticed a lot more locals out there fishing, primarily with nets. Judging by the size and quantity of fish they were pulling in, I'd say fishing was good. Even in better times with high water levels they're out there fishing. Along the shore of the dam where the water is deeper seemed to be a favorite spot. That makes catching them easier especially with nets. Edited May 5, 2020 by boydeste

forcebwithu
Today's update is of the Huai Chak Nok Reservoir. Small recreational pond that's dammed off from the rest of the reservoir is lower. And the reservoir itself is a lot lower. Comparison shot from one month ago on 13 April. The spirits patiently awaiting the return of the water. 2 1

dcfc2007
@forcebwithu you put most of the local Pattaya 'news' groups to shame. Great knowledge, well written, photos. Perfecto. 4
Popular Post forcebwithu
This month's update on the Mabprachan Reservoir. Weeds are higher Water level unchanged Weeds now poking up in the shallow areas Pumps are gone A few dead tree pics The spring fed stream is still flowing Used to be able to ride the bike across the lake bed at this point. Need a machete now to get through. There are some nice, quiet, scenic shady spots on the trails around the reservoir. A sea of green 6

forcebwithu
With the recent rains had a look at the reservoirs this morning. First up, Huai Chak Nok Reservoir. The small pond dammed off from the main reservoir. They're using pumps now to move water from the inflow area on the north end into the main reservoir. Edited June 11, 2020 by forcebwithu it's dammed, not damned :) 1
forcebwithu
After Huai Chak Nok, used the back roads for a nice ride over to Mabprachan Reservoir. Water level is up, but still quite a ways to go before they can start pumping from the reservoir again. 2 1
Nightcrawler
Blimey. That looks grim Thanks for the pictorial updates It's just as well that there aren't the normal volume of tourists in town at the moment as there would surely be an Acute water shortage. Popular Post forcebwithu
Update on the refilling of the reservoirs. First up Huai Chak Nok Reservoir which has slightly more water since the last update on the 10th. Mabprachan Reservoir also has a bit more water, but still nowhere near enough to start pumping again. 8
