North end of Beach Rd was blocked for a short time this morning while they did a bit of tree trimming.

Honest, I only stopped here to take a pic of the footpath repairs.

I had speculated they would pour a single concrete cap that would cover the entire catch basin. Looks like I was wrong and they're doing it in two sections.

North end terminus of the Beach Rd drain had a small volume of water coming in. Not sure where it was coming from, but what it did highlight is how plugged up the drains currently are. For the small amount of water coming in it should barely cover the bottom of the basin before draining away, not fill the basin 3/4 full of water.

Next open basin the water was barely moving. I wonder how far down the drain the construction debris extends, and to what depth.

Not sure what they're working on down in the hole, but whatever they're doing they've been busy it at for a few days now.

Noticed on another board a pic of the curb laying where it looked like they had stopped using concrete for the bed and were placing the blocks directly on the sand. My curiosity piqued I went out this morning to snap a few pics of the current work. Turns out they still are putting a layer of concrete down first. But now the question is, is concrete like hair gel, a little dab'll do ya.

Well if you do the job properly the first time the maintenance budget will be very small, and how are you going to buy another property off skimming that.

Posted on another forum a BM there thought it was a binding layer. I'm not in construction, so it was unfamiliar term. I looked it up and it makes sense that's what they're doing.

In construction, blinding is a base layer of weak concrete or sand that is laid above a layer of hardcore to provide a clean, level and dry working surface. A thin layer, usually around 50 mm (2 inches) thick, of blinding is poured over the hardcore, sealing in the underlying material and levelling off the surface.

And he may very well be right. I'm not in construction either. Also maybe they feel that just like the path itself, they will have to dig parts of it up on a regular basis and figure why make it harder than it needs to be.

Hard to see in this pic, but the catch basin is still almost 3/4 full of water, so they've not yet cleaned it out. I would have thought it would be easier to clean the muck out before they completed the concrete enclosure.

First time I've seen them make an effort to sort the paving stones by color.

Looks good when they match to the existing pavers.

Not so good when they don't.

Wonder what numbnut thought it was a good idea to spray paint a marker on the pavers.

Mystery solved what they're building. Diversion gates for the storm water. But the question then is where will they divert the water storm water to, and why if it's just run off? And like most things in Thailand, I give it about 2-3 years before lack of maintenance renders the diversion gates useless.
