Popular Post Jambo
The house next door to us in Mae Sot has been preparing all week for a two day Party all week. Lots of chairs, a small stage scaffolding and a marquee completely covering the soi which has meant that for this weekend we can only use the motorbike and not the car or truck. We were warned and we can live with that as it is a one/off big occasion...............................apparently. At 8 O'clock this morning the live ........................................music................................... started scaring the shit out of the four dogs we have trying to get used to one another. Sai, my technical advisor tells me that the musical genre is "Northern Issan." Well it certainly isn't Northern Soul that is for sure The first live set lasted 4 hours without a break at a painfully loud volume which gave me plenty of time to think how best to describe what I was hearing. The basic rhythm reminds me somewhat of cajun music overlaid with the sound of a cat being strangled and is exactly the same for every song. The female singer screeches as if her tits got caught in the fiddle strings. Reminds me somewhat of the noise I made when I caught my dick zipping up my levi's. Well it is about 4.45 pm now and it is just as loud and but for a break for lunch this band has been going at it all day. Another day of this tomorrow! 11

fygjam
"As we all know, sound is a series of pressure wave travelling in air: sound waves are caused by oscillations of pressure in the air. The loudness of a sound possible on earth is limited by the size of this oscillation of air pressure. This presents a natural limit to how loud a (sustained) sound can get - the pressure of the air cannot drop below a vacuum. So the loudest (sustained) sound possible is therefore a pressure wave oscillating between vacuum and +2 atmospheres. And this is equal to 194 decibels. No sound on earth (at sea level) can exceed 194 decibels because of this. It's worth mentioning that you can have shock waves that are bigger than 2 atmospheres, which theoretically have have a higher decibel number than 194dB, but this is not a sustained sound." Basically if you get any louder than 194 decibels your wave becomes a shock wave instead of a sound. Now 194 decibels is a LOUD sound. An estimated 180 decibel sound of the Krakatoa volcano eruption was heard as far as 3,000 miles away and blew out eardrums up to 40 miles away! For days our sensors could detect the waves rippling across the atmosphere! A 10 decibel increase is usually perceived to be twice as loud, so just imagine a 194 decibel sound. dcfc2007
One thing I admire about the Thais is that they love having a good time. In the west we are conditioned to believe that work is almost the sole purpose of ones life. The Thais on the other hand believe that sanook is the purpose of life. 2

Jambo
They stopped for the night at midnight. Restarted even earlier this morning ( 7.30am) but so far it is not live and much lower volume. There must be at least 50 Thai's who stayed overnight. Buddha knows where they slept, washed or dumped. Next door has two "bathrooms" same as our house. Monks did their bit early doors for a good 45 minutes then it was heads down troughing time again. I spoke too soon.......................................the bands just started! It is a guy singer now which is some relief from the unbelievable female of yesterday! 😀 I had to plug headphones into the TV yesterday so I could listen to the match commentary for the Gooners. misteregg
I think in Thai society, the louder the music the more people can enjoy it.Never any concern for those who like it quiet, because in Thai life you should never be the odd one out. Popular Post tommy dee
several years ago someone built a shaty shack behind our garden wall, and cooked food to seel at the market. no worries. then one of the younger girls boyfriend, who drove st andrews school bus, used to pull up and play full blast janga muzak for hours. that pissed me off as the house shook every night.. i went and asked nicely to turn down and the bloke was rude and they laughed . no worries i have two stacks, speakers, here in store and an amp that is to die for. i had also done the music for an indian gig, dont ask.. and had all their music on a stick one morning, 5 am, i put ti all on full blast and went indoors. 3 hrs of solid crap straight at their gaff. since then not heard a peep 1
