Worst thing to do in time of crisis is starting to blame one another. Of course nasty politicians will do it, but decent people should not fall into the trap.

Specially as many on here are foreigners in the country they live in, and the wind could swing very fast.

Local governors seem to be making some decisions as the Phuket one above and the Bangkok one on restaurants closing.  Leads to confusion when the government is saying something different on a national level.

Just been reading on FB that some seem to think it's only restaurants in malls and department stores that are restricted to doing carry outs only.

Restaurant owners are getting excited that they can open, I think their in for a shock.

And giving a somewhat inaccurate summary of the article as regards Hong Kong which mentions the government disagrees with the proposal which was made by "lawmakers and  pension experts".

Wrong.

The point is simply that somebody dared to think about doing that.

Anyway, wrong section indeed.

flag 2.jpg

The above red flag suddenly appeared at a house near us in Mae Sot.

I said to Sai that maybe they are trying to tell everybody that they are self isolating?

Sai says that it is voodoo!

I laughed but later Sai asked the daughter in the house what it was for?

The daughter said Grandmother put it up to ward off the coronavirus germs.

Yep...............Voodoo! 🤣

The source of this article is said to be the Facebook page of the Governor of Surin province,  Kraisorn Kongsat.  He doesn't have a FB page in English (I looked).  A BM who's good in Thai or has a Thai significant other might want to check it out.

Surin Governor says newest case is 19 year old girl returning from Pattaya area

The Surin Governor, Kraisorn Kongsat, has stated on his personal Facebook this morning that the newest confirmed case of Covid-19 in Surin is a 19 year old Thai girl who had recently returned from the Pattaya area.

The woman, who was not named for her privacy, said she worked at a spa in Pattaya and claimed that she caught the virus from a foreign tourist from Sweden. However, The Pattaya News notes, there is no way for the girl to actually know who she caught it from or where. Medical experts are tracing her contacts as well as those who rode on the bus with her to Surin.

The bus information was released by the Surin Governor and all passengers on that specific bus are currently in the process of being traced, tested and quarantined.

She departed Pattaya on Sunday, March 22 and arrived in Surin at 4:30 AM.

Upon arrival and a health check officials decided to pull her for more screening. She was later confirmed with the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The Governor of Surin said he would continue to be transparent and open with all citizens and that Surin would only win this battle and protect the province by staying home and practicing social distancing.

The 19 year old girl is in the process of getting medical treatment.

For what it's worth  . . . . .

I've had a long standing business meeting in Nonthaburi ( West of Bangkok ) scheduled for today, to oversee the loading of components into a shipping container for export to PNG. Having been completely confused as to what I am / am not allowed to do ( curfew or not , allowed to leave the Province of Chonburi or not, etc. etc. ) I left home ( Pattaya Darkside ) this morning at 05.35 with Passport, Work Permit, Documents detailing the job and Thai Wife driving. Arrived at the Nonthaburi factory at 07.55 without drama. No Police or Army check-points, no trouble topping up with fuel ( Esso on the Chonburi by-pass ), no trouble getting snacks ( 7/11 ), no trouble getting Coffee & Cake ( Chonburi on the way back ) and no trouble getting a sit-down eat-in late lunch /early dinner at our favorite restaurant ( Sami's ) just before we got home.

Roads very quiet. Got there about 40 minutes quicker than I have on ( 2 ) previous occasions, and 25 minutes sooner than G-Maps originally forecast. More traffic on the way back, but never to the point of slowing progress.

Now, a couple of mugs of tea and early to bed me thinks.

Public told to stay home 7 days

Pornpipat warns of 24-hour virus curfew

PUBLISHED : 27 MAR 2020 AT 04:00

People nationwide are strongly urged to stay home and stop socialising for seven days, starting this weekend, as the government steps up efforts to stem the coronavirus, Gen Pornpipat Benyasri, chief of Defence Forces, says.

A 24-hour curfew may have to be imposed if the call for cooperation falls on deaf ears, said Gen Pornpipat, who is in charge of security affairs for the centre for the resolution of emergency situation set up under the emergency decree that gave Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha full control of anti-virus measures.

His call followed a sharp rise in new infections, which surpassed the 1,000 mark for the first time yesterday after the country reported 111 new cases.

Gen Pornpipat said the emergency decree was invoked to control the spike in Covid-19 cases.

The country is not yet under total lockdown yet, Gen Pornpipat added, but if infections continue to rise, it may be inevitable.

He said people have to change their behaviour and stay home before case numbers jump and the situation spirals out of control.

If the situation is under control, the infection figure will stand at around 2,000 next week.

Otherwise, it has been estimated that the number of cases could climb to between 7,000 and 10,000 if no tough and swift action is taken now.

"We need your cooperation this coming Saturday and Sunday not to leave home and to cancel all activities," he said. "Stay home and stop the spread of the virus for the sake of the nation, and continue doing this for a week," Gen Pornpipat said.

Businesses should have time beforehand to adjust their working schedules, he added.

Gen Pornpipat warned that if the number of new cases continues to rise, a curfew is inevitable and it could include daylight hours.

"If a curfew is to be imposed, it will not just be for the night time because the disease is always active by day and night," Gen Pornpipat said.

"We should control ourselves instead of being forced to do so by the state," he said.

The Public Health Ministry announced a total of 1,045 cases yesterday, with deaths unchanged at four.

The prime minister has declared a state of emergency until April 30, as Thailand has been struggling in its battle with Covid-19 transmission.

Among first-level directives imposed under the emergency decree, foreigners are banned from entering the kingdom at all points with the exception of diplomats, shippers, drivers of public transport, pilots, work permit holders and others permitted by the prime minister.

Thai nationals stranded in other countries will still be allowed to return provided they have a fit-to-fly health certificate.

People have also been urged to refrain from travelling upcountry. Interprovincial travellers are required to install an app for tracking and will have to undergo screening at several checkpoints.

Children under five and adults above the age of 70 and those with underlying health issues are recommended to stay home. All public gatherings are banned.

Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTAF) headquarters has set up seven checkpoints for people coming into Bangkok and 350 more in other provinces to check inter-provincial travellers and help contain the coronavirus.

The announcement said the checkpoints were in response to the prime minister tasking the RTAF with supervising virus security measures.

The checkpoints are being manned by soldiers, police and civil servants who check travellers for symptoms of Covid-19 by taking their temperature, and check whether their behaviour could carry a risk of Covid-19 transmission, the announcement said.

People at risk of infection or transmission would be kept at appropriate locations, it said. No further details were available.

"Measures will be implemented only when it is necessary, to minimise the impact on the everyday life," it said.

In Bangkok, checkpoints were set up on Chaeng Watthana Road, Suwinthawong Road under Mahanakorn expressway, Soi 39 on Kanchanaphisek frontage road, Sukhumvit Road at the BTS Bearing station, Rachaphruek Road in Taling Chan district, Suksawat Road and Rama II Soi 92 Road.

National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda yesterday also ordered additional checkpoints be set up on Phetkasem Road bordering Nakhon Pathom, Bang Na-Trat Road bordering Samut Prakan, Burapha Withi expressway, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, and the Don Muang elevated tollway.
