A non-quarantine case:

"Medical authorities in Samut Prakan, just southeast of Bangkok, say a Thai man tested positive for Covid-19 at a hospital there today."

Like buses, you wait for ages and then three come all at once, lol.....

Total control by design?

SINO-THAI TRADE CONTINUES TO GROW DESPITE PANDEMIC

https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2020/08/24/sino-thai-trade-continues-to-grow-despite-pandemic/

...The prospect for Thai economy remains dire given its heavy reliance on tourism and exports, both of which have suffered blows from global border closures.

But a commerce official saw a silver lining in the situation: China.

Defying the chaos brought about by the pandemic, Thai exports to the People’s Republic actually grew by 5 percent, Prakhan Kordumrong of the Overseas Market Development Office said.

The government will look for ways to help Thai entrepreneurs enter the Chinese market, he added.

“China is our important market, since we exported 12 percent of our total exports to China,” Prakarn said. “We will use our overseas trade offices to promote Thai goods on both online and offline platforms, which we have partnered with Alibaba to set up a dedicated section for Thai products.”...

I went down Jomtien Beach yesterday afternoon (the area south of Wat Bun) and you'd never know there was a tourist crisis; the place was packed, loads of traffic and hard to find a parking spot even at 4:30. Big coaches full of Thais rumbling past and the deck chair vendors were doing a roaring trade. To be honest, other than the fact that I only saw three other white faces down there, it looked like a completely normal weekend, maybe even a bit busier than usual. The long weekend coming up is likely to be extremely busy if the weather holds up.

FFS, who wants to go through all this shit ?

Lots do, going by how quickly all the repatriation flights are being snapped up and the amount of hotels being addded to the ASQ list almost daily.

In most countries, including Thailand, the politicians have played a game of buck-passing by allowing the response to the virus to be led by the doctors and scientists. In Thailand, they've done an outstanding job, unlike the UK where Chris Witty and Patrick Vallance and others appear to have reacted too slowly and too weakly (of course, that may just be Boris and his crowd politely ignoring their advice; after all, he said they "would be led by the science", but he's never promised that he'd follow it!). Now most of Thailand's medical experts, who have done so well during the pandemic, are imploring the government not to start opening up to foreign tourists yet, while it seems that Prayut and his cronies have decided to do a Dom and ignore the scientific and medical advice. Best stock up on booze, I can see another lockdown coming, lol.

Tourists to get unlimited 30-day extensions to stay after ‘visa amnesty’ ends

PHUKET: Foreigners staying in the country on any form of tourist visa will be allowed to repeatedly renew their permits to stay with immigration for periods of 30 days at a time after the ‘visa amnesty’ ends on Sept 26, the Immigration Bureau announced today (Sept 3).

>>>>

Gen Pornchai explained that any tourists unable to return home after Sept 26 due to illness are to apply for an extension to stay by applying at an Immigration office and presenting a medical certificate to prove they are unfit to fly.

However, those who are unable to return home due to lack of flights or other circumstances in their home country must present a letter from their home country’s embassy or consulate in Thailand requesting that the foreign be allowed to continue to temporarily stay in the Kingdom, Gen Pornchai added.

Foreigners will be granted 30 days’ stay each time, Gen Pornchai said.

However, if the tourist’s circumstances have not changed within the 30 days, they can apply for another 30 days’ stay, he added.

Can't see many embassies/consulates issuing letters as there are and will be flights available to leave before the 26th.

The unfit to fly medical certificate on the other hand may well be a good money maker for some.

I'm sure I've read something along the lines of each case will be assessed individually, so if the evidence is suspect the 30 days won't be granted and you would probablly be given 7 to leave the country, although I reckon agent presented evidence will be more convincing.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1985839/cabinet-approves-long-term-tourist-visas

The cabinet on Tuesday agreed to allow in foreign tourists who agree to 14-day quarantine and stay for at least 90 days, to help the flagging economy.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said after the cabinet meeting that the government would issue special tourist visas for long-stay visitors. The most important condition would be a 14-day quarantine.

"Visitors can arrive for tourism or health services, and they can stay at alternative state quarantine facilities, specific areas or at hospitals that function as quarantine facilities," he said.

"Our public health system is amongst the best in the world and people can have confidence in it."

The prime minister said the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration would later elaborate on the matter.

Deputy government spokeswoman Traisulee Traisaranakul said long-stay visitors would have to present proof of payment for their long stay in the country. This could be payment for a hotel reservation, or the lease of a condominium room.

"The target is to welcome 100-300 visitors a week, or up to 1,200 people a month, and generate income of about 1 billion baht a month," she said.

The 90-day special tourist visa could be extended twice, for 90 days each time. Long-stay visitors could begin arriving next month, Ms Traisulee said.

Prasong Poontaneat, finance permanent secretary, said the country needed to generate income from visitors, especially those from the countries where coronavirus disease had not been spreading in past months  - such as China, Taiwan and some counries in Europe.

Twenty Chinese provinces were free of Covid-19 and had a combined population of around 800 million. If only one percent of them, about 8 million people, visited Thailand they could support the tourism sector, he said.

Also the condo/hotel proof of stay would be an issue for people like myself who want to travel around ...

I was just thinkng that myself, good news that they are actually going to let tourists back in though.

Even if the hoops may be too many to jump through.

Ok....did not see anything about a " fit to fly" certificate or 3 million baht worth of Covid insurance or........a negative test certificate 72 hours before your flight?

The article was weak on details. Similar pronouncements have been shot down quickly by the powers-that-be.
