The only one we hear about are people who fell ill, went to the hospital and got checked. Again, let them do 500k or 1 million testing per week and you'll see what is the real situation. If every country had dealt with it like this the world wouldn’t be in the mess it’s in. Talking to friends and family who have been tested positive in the UK all said pretty much the same thing, if they weren’t aware of the ‘pandemic’ they would have put it down to ‘a bit of a cold or a flu’. Which it is for the vast majority, a very bad flu but it passes. In February doctors in some regions in Italy started to be puzzled by the abnormal high numbers of bad flu and pneumonia cases, till they slowly made the connection with Wuhan. Nope. I say their claims of "we have it under control, we have very low number of cases" is pure B.S. If they dont do massive testing, they have no clue how many cases are walking around. See what I posted this morning about Indo's "Green regions" ...same B.S. Concerning "bad flu", well for around 95% of positive cases nothing happens. Already explained 20 times here. The only places I know in Thailand where tests are actually done in numbers are for hospital in-patients. If there were higher numbers surely there would be more deaths just by the law of averages compared to other countries ?

Yes but : - where to find the official numbers (daily / weekly ..) of global deaths for Thailand, so as to be able to compare to previous years ? Because TOTAL deaths is the only reliable number. - in the rural areas, I think some deaths may be Covid related but simply not reported as such Same as here. Old people die in the villages, they are burried and finish. - in the cities, if the hospitals were overflowing with cases in reanimation we probably would hear about it on social media, so it must not be the case I guess ?
Popular Post Jambo
If there were large numbers of unreported cases in Thailand then that would be reflected at the very least in the expat community in Pattaya and Bangkok. Expats going down with Covid would most definitely make the news and this very forum and that is not happening. It is very easy to rubbish Thailand from afar but they closed the borders very early and kept them closed. They introduced lockdowns and implemented what we now consider draconian measures but they appear to have worked. Another factor is that Thai's were already used to wearing facemasks prior to Covid so a very high percentage adopted wearing them immediately. To this day I cannot enter any of our three major shopping centers without wearing a facemask, being temperature tested and entering contact details on a register. The problem is going to be Thailand ( and many other countries) coming to terms with the fact that Covid 19 ( as with influenza) is with us for ever. It is never going to go away world wide and from what I read the likelihood is that when the vaccine is with us it will be only about 50% effective. I certainly will not wish to be vaccinated (unless I absolutely have to for flights) until a couple of years has gone by and we see what shortcuts were taken in its rushed production. 4
Thai Spice
What a marvelous country ... While every country is piling up 1000's of new cases daily, Amazing Thailand had only 3 new cases Tuesday. And guess what ? All 3 foreigners "caught" at the airport. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2009099/3-new-covid-cases-tuesday-quarantined-foreigners Great job ! Now what about testing the complete airport staff, everybody, including security, immigration, sales staff .... Just to make sure they are all clean ? Bloody joke it is, but hey face, face, face .... Sorry mate but if you are going to quote an article at least get your facts straight. Only 1 of the 3 tested positive on arrival, the other 2 tested positive whilst in quarantine, which is why there's quarantine here in the 1st place. I think I'm the only on this forum who's actually gone through quarantine and I can assure you everything is done with the highest of care to minimize the risk of (cross) contamination from arrival at the airport until the very last day you leave quarantine. Your temperature is measured upon arrival before they let you through to immigration, and if your temperature is above 37,5 they won't let you proceed. They will give you a chance to cool off a bit but if you don't and they suspect you have covid you'll be rushed to the nearest hospital. When you do get through and you arrive in quarantine your temperature gets checked again and then at least twice a day during your stay plus you have a minimum of 2 covid tests. I'm not saying there's no covid here but they are working round the clock to ensure it doesn't get imported and the positive cases will easily get identified based on the rigorous daily checking. 3 3

My point is more on their claim " there is no, or very little, covid in Thailand", which is a pure B.S claim if they don't do mass random testing in the population. If there would be covid here at anything more than a small scale of isolated incidents the expat population would be affected too and soon the whole world would know. People aren't dying en mass from covid in Isaan either testing or no testing. The jungle drums are almost faster than Twitter.

I am not speaking about Covid death only, more about "positive test" If you dont do mass testing, you have no clue. And Thailand is not doing mass testing. Same here. Sure Covid is here in Indonesia. In March / April the papers were full of stories, and stats about burials in Jakarta. Then the President declared that it is unneccesary to create panic (and I agree). Everybody got the message, and it was finished with the dramatic reports. And there is no mass testing done. Main testing is for inter island / inter provincial travel which need a Rapid test. But of course a 50 or 100k IDR will get you around it (except for air travel) This is the 4th most populous country in the world, 268 million, and the official Covid numbers just dont make sense. Concerning expats, there is important community here in Bali, never heard about one who caught it. But than again, I dont know many who even tested. Roughly everybody goes on with his life as usual.
Horizondave
Porn flew to Thailand today, she is presently in immigration awaiting info on where she will be taken for quarantine. Well Porn is on her way to hospital with 3 others as her second temperature test showed 37.5 degrees. Her first was 37. Porn is well pissed off and despite her complaining that she was hot etc (especially as she was in a tracksuit) and needed to go to the loo to freshen up she was told that an ambulance would be along to take her to the hospital. She was being watched by many BIB and had quite a few tests, swabs etc. She has been advised that if the tests come back as negative she will be transported to a hotel tomorrow to continue her quarantine. She phoned me saying she was upset but had calmed down; I am sure she will be found negative as if not then I might need to isolate with my little one. Porn had been isolating in our house for 10 days before the journey to the airport yesterday, little one had also not been out of the house for 10 days, only I had been out to get shopping etc. Interesting times. I hope it works out OK for her. Assuming it was a temperature taken from forehead, 37.5 is high; I think 37.8 is the critical temperature. There are a number of reasons for slightly increased temperature.

I am sure she will be Ok as she had not left the house since Thursday 22 October, Kataleya had a week off school as well and only I had gone out shopping. On her flight over she didn't go to the loo and had the middle seat spare next to her, I think she will be negative overnight from the tests.
