There were no positive cases incoming from the UK reported today among the 10 people that tested positive so im assuming she indeed tested negative.

Still waiting to hear from her but she needs new sim and wifi so hoping she is being transferred to hotel where she can call. Kataleya really is the one who needs to hear from her, she is wondering why mummy hasn't called her.

My wife is still in hospital, she has a temperature of 37.4 and will have tests for 2-3 days before releasing her to a hotel. She does not have Covid presently.

I have been using a translate service to ask her sister whether she is still in hospital, does she have WiFi, does she have Covid, which hospital etc etc.

She is in Bangchak hospital and even though I have the number and extension the automatic reception system does not allow me to speak with anybody or allow me to dial the extension. I have sent an email to the hospital asking for any direct number to call the ward. .

I hope its nothing serious mate and wish her full recovery from her illness. These must be worrying times for you, especially with little or no information available.

Last time I spoke with her was yesterday morning when she was just about to get in an ambulance. Her sister has spoken with her but when I try the number it just offers extension numbers but when I try to hit the extension it just goes silent and then cuts me off. I have asked her sister to see if she can get her to message me somehow. Pretty obvious they are not allowing her to use WiFi or mobile data and her sister is just getting her info from a hospital source.

Kataleya does not understand why mummy is not talking with her, bloody annoying time.

We take it for granted in these days of instant global communication. You have my sympathies mate, I know how frustrating it can be. Hope you can get to talk to her soon Dave and she is quickly out of hospital.

From the FB groups I am following, it's clear the Thais are not taking any chances with arrivals and Porn won't be the first to spend 24/48 hours under close observation.

Porn was released from hospital this morning, she is fine and was kept in as a precaution. She is Covid free....yippee

She is now in Pattaya and staying at the Jomtien Palm Beach resort in a very nice location, she even has a sea view. I have seen the pictures of her room and facilities and I am quite impressed, she hasn't tried the food yet though.

As per normal the WiFi is not very good and she will be getting a new sim with good mobile data, it is 18 months since she was last in Thailand so her old sim is useless.

I am relieved as that is the first time I had heard from her in 48 hours.

Great news mate!

Porn has just sent me the menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, must be about 15 different choices at each meal, looks impressive. She has also been given anti biotics and other drugs for cough and flu symptoms. Every little helps I suppose.

She has her Blue tooth speaker and will now be doing Zumba most days during her remaining 12 day quarantine.

Considering I had to scrape ice off my car this morning I wouldn't mind swapping with her lol

Pattaya will become a more significant part of the expanding  Chinese Riviera...

Hainan Island; Da Nang, Nha Trang & Phu Quoc Island VN; Sihanoukville Cambodia; Pattaya/Rayong & Phuket TH; Penang MY; Singapore, etc.

Belt & Road, Sand & Surf...

That's why the Thais are bending over to let the Chinese tourists back in first. They're young, Covid-free & have cash in hand. They're sending a loud message.

Just a function of proximity, demographics and the new world order. It's been underway for awhile ...Covid has just accelerated the transition.

HEALTH AUTHORITIES ALARMED BY NEW LOCAL COVID-19 CASE IN KRABI

BANGKOK (Xinhua) — With rare cases of local COVID-19 transmission in Thailand, health authorities on Saturday said they were puzzled by the new discovery of a local infection from Krabi, a popular resort island in Thailand’s south....

 --- But...not for the Chinese ---

Inbound Tourism as a Gift

Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports on Friday said in its press briefing that it is eyeing for a travel bubble with China as a New Year’s gift to the Thai tourism industry badly crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry said it is planning to welcome Chinese tourists as the first group of foreigners entering into Thailand without a mandatory quarantine during the Lunar New year.

“Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be discussing with Chinese state agencies to discuss the travel bubble plan,” said Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, tourism and sports minister. “Hopefully, our Chinese counterparts will help facilitate the travel bubble plan.”

The minister said he is confident in the COVID-19 situation in China.

The minister also said that the first group of Chinese travelers who have previously entered Thailand tested negative for COVID-19 after their 14-day quarantine.

“And so now the Chinese tourists can go wherever they like in Thailand,” said Phiphat.

Great news, you can now re-enter Thailand with a Non-O and extension based on retirement. You still have to jump through all the hoops, get C19 insurance and stay in ASQ, of course, but it's now possible.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am seriously thinking about booking a trip for my family to Thailand next summer.

I am pretty certain my family will have had a vaccine by that time, I am pretty hopeful (in UK) the pandemic will be in retreat before summer next year but reading in a Bangkok paper today it is expected that the Thai public won't be receiving the vaccine before mid 2021,  https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/easy/2025239/thais-to-get-covid-vaccine-by-mid-2021, so it begs a question :

If my family have had the vaccine and could be seen as a viable group of travelers that would be allowed into Thailand (can go now with quarantine) is it likely that the requirement for us (and other vaccinated travelers) will still be subject to quarantine.

I only want to go for 3 weeks but if ASQ and SQ is still required then it won't be possible for us to go.

Just wondering if there is any information out there (even word on the street...Tommy etc) that suggests there will be a reduction or cancelling of quarantine measures for arrivals at some point in the future based on the success of the vaccines available.

Just supposition, but two of the recently acclaimed vaccines only suppress symptoms and you could still have and transmit the virus as I understand it.  If that's the case then Thailand opening up without quarantine before they have widespread use of a vaccine would seem unlikely.

I agree, but I did not know it was now certain that any of the 3 vaccines only suppresses the symptoms. I thought that was still TBD.

Do you have a source, please?

To me, it sounds crazy.

I understand that the vaccine stops the virus from invading the cells so it cannot highjack them,  and with no means to reproduce, they will die.
