What the coronavirus actually looks like

The first images of what the deadly coronavirus looks like have been shared by scientists — and one shows the haunting moment it attacks.

They’ve been described online as haunting images. Picture: NIAID

The photos were taken using specialist equipment at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Picture: NIAID

Not sure any of that would help if you sat next to an infected person for a 12 hour flight.Or even an hour or so in a departure lounge.

I read somewhere that one person with SARS infected 7 others on an aeroplane.

Not surprising in such a confined space with the same air being recycled.

Hence quarantining 2 or 3000 people on a cruise ship, like they did recently, is an heresy. It is a perfect environment for after 2 weeks everybody being infected.

Now that Worldmeter has broken out the stats for the Diamond Princess floating petri dish we will be able to see just how lethal the virus is when those infected have access to decent medical care, and a healthcare system that isn't overwhelmed by tens of thousands of infected.

Of the approx 3,700 passengers, the infected count stands at 621. That's a 16.8% infection rate. It's no surprise that number is as high as it is considering the environment they were living in invited mass infections.

Sadly, I expect there will be some deaths, but it is somewhat encouraging that 19 days after the first report of an infected passenger the death toll currently stands at zero.

Unfortunately that's now changed - 2 elderly Japanese with underlying health conditions have succumbed.  They'd been moved off the ship so I don't know if they'll show up in the stats for the ship or for Japan itself.

Meanwhile, 600,000 people will die world-wide from influenza this year. The coronavirus is more of a hypevirus with only 2,000 deaths. I am surprised that so many are getting sucked into this sensationalized vacuum.

I think it's more of a 'What if?' scenario, like if someone with it gets onto the tube in London in the rush hour it could spread like wildfire.

Agreed about this being way too sensationalized.

China has a death rate of around 31,500 per day, all reason combined.

So, since the beginning of the Corona drama 60 days ago, about 2,000,000 people have died for reasons like age, health or accidents.

Corona has added during that period 2,000 deaths. This is a 0,1 %  increase....

Is that really worth the hype and the panic ? Now, that it need to be monitored and handled is sure, but creating a worldwide panic and putting the whole economy in lockdown ?

Anyway, we're all gonna die.....

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/21/jp-morgan-economists-warn-climate-crisis-threat-human-race

“We cannot rule out catastrophic outcomes where human life as we know it is threatened,” notes the paper, which is dated 14 January.

“Although precise predictions are not possible, it is clear that the Earth is on an unsustainable trajectory. Something will have to change at some point if the human race is going to survive.”

But you know what ? I don't  give a shit !
