Well that's not the attitude majority of the UK market ... they want cheap food , cheap clothes, cheap flights and I can't see this crisis changing anything

They may have no choice. Even Macron the lord and saviour of globalisation has already said that it's time to start making supply chains more localised. Can only be a good thing. Besides it is a bit of a myth that homemade products are always more expensive than foreign imports.

If ya get knocked down by a bus and they test you for Coronavirus and you had it would it still count as a Corona death?

If you get knocked down by a bus and that's what you die from, then clearly that's what you die from, multiple organ failure or whatever will be on the Death Cert.

In the UK the way the figures are counted are if a Doctor, Consultant or someone equally of that standard puts Coronavirus on the Death Certificate and they died in hospital.

It's not an exact science as this virus is so new, every day they're learning more. But when the figures are near 1000 a day, I think 50 up or down isn't something i'd worry about, and i'd go with what a Doctor or Consultant says, their judgement over something say I read from Tracy on Facebook, but that's just me.

That's in the UK, I don't know about elsewhere, wouldn't really trust the bias or agenda driven media from whatever viewpoint. I work for Public Health, so kinda know what's going on via my job.

If anything, the UK Government are getting a hard time in the last few days because they are not counting deaths from coronavirus in care homes or those who died at home or anywhere in the community, they're only counting those who actually died in hospital. So it's reckoned the actual death count is 1000's more.

There's so much misinformation out there, some just because this is so new ………. some not 🙂

Yes, that's why you should be one of the 'vulnerable' people who should be cocooned at home. Nobody is seriously saying lets just carry on as normal, it's about finding the right balance between protecting the 'at risk' groups, and allowing the economy to function is as normal a manner as possible.

The ONS study found they had three or more serious underlying conditions, mostly heart and respiratory problems as well as dementia and other serious illnesses. I know being a Hun is a pretty serious debilitating condition but I don't think it puts you at risk.

LOL.

LOL

You must be a bit of a lonesome boatman in West Belfast with your Politics.

I can only assume you don't live anywhere near the Planet of the IRSPs, or they'd be 'reprogramming' you with a 9mm Glock, and have you out selling Republican Socialist Worker or whatever, with a few grams of coke as a sideline lol.

I am totally fed up hearing and reading about this. Our politicians are f***ing useless. The London mayor for all the use he has been in his 4 year term, is now saying he thinks we should be wearing masks compulsory. Christ sake can’t even get PPE for the health service never mind 60 million population.

As for coming out of this mess I am slowly starting to change my mind. When we do emerge from this mess, the economy is going to f***ed for a generation. If you thought the teenagers of today are disillusioned, wait till the next generation bear the brunt of the tax rises. Like to see them get on the property ladder.

All the media/news and politicians seem to be focusing on the number of dead per day. We are now 3 weeks into lockdown with only essential travel allowed. I would have thought that after 3 weeks lockdown we would start to see a reduction in new cases. Today’s figures are 5600 new cases and 849 dead. How can this be if we are all obeying the government guidelines, not going out keeping our distance. I would have thought that new cases would have been down to a trickle now.

If you look at the number of cases to dead ratio for the UK  108000 cases 14600 dead. You would expect that from today’s 5600 new cases approx 560 deaths. Looks like on current numbers we are going to under lockdown for some time, unless they change track

Funny you should say that.

Went in to the offies the other night for a carry out. It's attached to a bar run by the IRPS, one fella came in through the bar door and I got a quick look in and saw about 10 of them all sat drinking at the bar.

West Belfast ain't locking down for nobody.

I don’t understand why people weren’t told to wear masks from the start .
maybe it might take pressure off the hospitals

Indonesia becomes south-east Asian country with most infections

Indonesia has reported 407 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases to 5,923 and surpassing the Philippines as the country with the highest number of infections in south-east Asia.

The health ministry official Achmad Yurianto also reported 24 new deaths attributed to the disease, taking the total to 420, and said Indonesia had performed 42,000 tests for the virus.

CNN Indonesia has been streaming the briefing here.

Indonesia’s government has been accused of failing to act quickly, after initially downplaying the threat of the virus in the country. It wasn’t until 2 March that a first case was confirmed in Indonesia, prompting fears that the virus may have been left to spread, especially in the country’s densely populated capital.

The oldd frog still ok, and continuing his live as usual.

Today was swimming pool, barber shop, breadshop, supermarket and a beer at bar in town.

And still smiling at all the rubbish I read.

I firmly believe that the only way to beat this virus is to stay at home & have as little contact with other people as possible. Unfortunately the U.K government seem to be promising the world to the working class & delivering very little. People will only listen for so long but with many people running out of food , money & most of all patience how long will people stay home. I know many who will be working next week that were off for the previous 3. This government like most previous don't seem to be stepping up to the mark where they should be, when the money runs out so will the patience. A big cheer for the N H S workers though doing a great job & under a lot of pressure, when this troublesome virus is past will the government remember how important they are to this country & increase the pittance of pay that they currently get, I doubt it.

The previous post by simon triggered a thought....

He said "I firmly believe that the only way to beat this virus is to stay at home & have as little contact with other people as possible", and he's hardly alone in thinking that.  The thought triggered was drawing a parallel between the extremes we're going to in protecting a small minority from this virus, and the extreme "end of life" measures taken in Western healthcare fighting a costly losing battle with the extremely sick.

At some point, all of this will have to be re-evaluated.  And it will be ugly.

U.S. intelligence has “increasing confidence” that the novel Wuhan coronavirus outbreak began in a lab that was researching bat-coronaviruses, contrary to China’s claim that the pandemic emerged from a Wuhan wet market, according to multiple sources that briefed Fox News.

The sources told Fox News that the initial transmission of the virus looks to be bat-to-human, and that “patient zero” contracted the disease while working at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, before going into the general population. While the lab is China’s first to achieve the highest level of international bio-research safety, known as BSL-4, its work with bats had been conducted at the lower protection level of BSL-2.

Senator Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) first warned that the origins of the coronavirus were unknown, citing a Chinese study which found that the first documented coronavirus case in Wuhan had no connection to the market, but was vilified by U.S. media outlets for suggesting the virus could have come from the lab.

Democrats have been largely dismissive of claims of Chinese duplicity, instead focusing criticism on the Trump administration’s response. “The reason that we are in the crisis that we are today is not because of anything that China did, not because of anything the WHO did, it’s because of what this president did,” Senator Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) said Tuesday.

Very interested to read America's guidelines on how they will have a phased approach to coming out of lockdown- an excellent example of transparency. Official procedure below

https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6840714/Guidelines.pdf

So coming out of lockdown, will look like Phase II.

Feel the UK Government should be telling people what Phase II might look like.

I take the point that it is impossible to say when we will come out of lockdown, as that depends on the numbers but we should be able to have some open, transparent discussion on what it might involve.

I don't have any trust in Dominic Raab, and feel he is just stone walling. There is nothing to stop us discussing what coming out of lockdown would look like e.g social distancing stays in place, non-essential trips are allowed, primary schools can open, care homes remain closed to visits e.t.c

God forbid it's making me wish the UK Parliament was back to discuss this.

Opening Gyms in Phase one seems very strange ...

Lately, I'm getting really pissed off that folk want to compare this outbreak and death rate to traffic accident death rates, cancer death rates and whatever the f**k you want to compare it to. Traffic accidents don't infect people, but viruses do. Big big difference.
