Just got my first dose of the vaccine. Breathtaking speed and efficiency at the vaccination centre. If the supply of vaccine keeps up, the UK will rattle through this vaccination in no time. Far from banning UK tourists, third world shitholes will be clambering over the top of one another trying to attract Brits in no time.

We need to start getting some "positives" and I don't mean the Virus itself as there are currently so many cases.

But we need a light at the end of the tunnel after a terrible year. Even if it is something simple like planning a summer holiday. Since all other measures have failed, longterm, then the vaccine has to be the only hope to getting back to some sort of normality

Fingers crossed that by the end of 2021, the worst will be behind us.

England just passed this same thing requiring a test 3 days to before your flight home and this includes EVERYBODY......

This will put off millions of people from international travel....What if you test positive?......Your flight is screwed...

While everybody is focusing on what Europe or USA does or doesn't do I have been reading about China and how it is doing.

Whatever you think about the origins of the virus and the obvious recriminations being banded about the Chinese are just getting on with it. It is what Asians are good at whether some like it or not.

Pictures from Wuhan with people enjoying themselves or stories of cities where the virus has been spotted resulting in millions of people being tested in weeks should make good reading for those complaining about the life they have now.

Stringent rules seem to have worked there and they are keeping on top of things, probably most Chinese are not even thinking about international travel as long as they can move around China. They have QR codes, green cards for moving around etc all to show whether they have been tested or to be traced should an outbreak occur.  Maybe a lack of civil liberties is an issue here but in the midst of a pandemic extreme measures seem to be working in China. They are getting back to normal with a booming economy while all the western governments have pussy footed their way through the landscape of arguments from everybody with an opinion on what is best. No shutdowns of the border in over 10 months and just a token gesture now which again sees people complaining.

We are a nation who has to deal with people who rue the fact they can't get on a flight out of the country, many who don't like to wear masks and laugh at those who do, there are also many who don't like to be restricted in what they do and complain about everything done by our government.

Where are we right now, well basically in the crapper while China has turned the lights back on again. They look at us with shock as to how we have let it get like this.

Just interested in watching how other governments deal with things; not saying any of them is correct but the status of the pandemic in differing parts of the world is testament to how their governments have dealt with things.

President John Magufuli has opened the Tanzania borders saying that tourism was more important than the threat posed by Covid.

"According to Magufuli, samples were secretly obtained by “testers”, including from a sheep, a goat and a pawpaw, given human names and sent to the country’s national referral laboratory to test for coronavirus which, according to Magufuli, came back positive."

A population which understands why and doesn't want to be continually in and out of lockdown works just as well.

Over 9 months no community transmission and no lockdown.

Heard today one of the former managers from our factory site who I knew has died from it. He had only retired in December.

Also one of the security guards had to be taken to hospital by ambulance earlier this week.

Still got people off with it as well, so spreading through the company still.

A bit of geographic isolation (WA) helps as well?

What also helps is letting others States carry the workload.... mainly NSW.... to accept their citizens back into Australia while WA sat and played political games.

Anyway.....that is a discussion for another topic... with all the politics involved by WA... probably belongs in the Political section.

cheers

Straight outta the QAnon playbook.

. . .

The QAnon Doctor Pushing Wild Conspiracies About the COVID Vaccine
Dr. Carrie Madej spoke at the Capitol riots Wednesday and called the COVID vaccine a "witches' brew."

...To many, Madej successfully passes herself off as a medical expert, but she operates at the intersection of QAnon conspiracy theories and anti-vaxxer science, with a dollop of Christian fundamentalism and Trump-worship added to the mix. Yet the unfounded ideas she promotes—that coronavirus vaccines are part of a global effort to change the human genome and control the population—are spreading and have already had an effect...

Was on a video call with a couple of mates last night. Their bosses were trying to encourage them to come back into the office.

Separate from this both of them are hearing of several people they know in both offices coming down with COVID.

All this stuff about the policing of outdoor exercise is nonsense.  Workplaces and public transport are a far, far bigger risk.

Get this..one of my uncle's carers in the home is a young girl I'd say mid 20s but she's way overweight id say obese and she's always ill..25 residents and staff  had the oxford jab, all doing fine..this poor girl is off sick with flu like symptoms. it seems that if your overweight/obese coronavirus really takes its toll on you. UK fattest in Europe..US/Mexico the Americas..im sure these 3 countries have the highest death rate per CAPITA ?..just my observation.

I'd stick it in the totally inaccurate information section.

As a ratio of overseas arrival per head of local population, the size of the local population dictates what infrastructure is available

  • NSW 1 arrival per 11 locals
  • WA  1/13
  • VIC 1/13
  • NT 1/15
  • QLD 1/16
  • SA 1/37
  • TAS 1/176

Arrival figures, latest ABS monthly statistics.

WA could probably take more but the quarantine facilities are clogged up with people fleeing the disease ridden eastern states because the administrations in those states don't appear to be able to control the disease. A never ending series of outbreaks and lockdowns.

There are two ways to control Covid-19 in a community. Elimination or management.

WA elected for elimination and isolation certainly helps. The severest lockdown started on March 31st and ended April 27th. The last case of community transmission was April 11th. Since then WA has maintained strict control on entry which is easier to do with geographic isolation. If you're coming from overseas or a state with less than 28 days since the last occurrence of community transmission you go into quarantine for 14 days.

There are some arrivals who think the rules don't apply to them. They are usually relieved of ever increasing sums of money and get to spend the remainder of their quarantine period in a secure quarantine facility or prison cell. For some, the quarantine clock restarts.

Other Australian states have elected for management and are having a continuous run of outbreaks and mini lockdowns.

I know which method of control I prefer.

Like i said.....probably a discussion for another topic and going by your above post... you have the right topic name for it.

I hope that your taxes do not get raised to cover the bill that is owed to NSW for going your heavy lifting.

Anyway... as said... the discussion is for another topic probably suited to the political section.

cheers
