Age

Mentally no. I feel quite young in my attitudes but with the wisdom of age. However my body is fighting that and since I became sick earlier this year, my body took a hammering and I am not sure I will be quite the same. It also made me more aware of my own mortality

I have slowed right down and wake up with aches and pains and that is when I feel old.

That said, when I am in Pattaya, I feel much younger and act much younger. I like that, even though it's just for a while

But with each year that goes by I know that my time is limited

It's a gloomy thought and since I have been isolating during lockdown it brings those feelings closer and as many others probably have, I have lost that certain Joie de vivre

I don't think I am a Coffin Dodger yet though😄 and try to remain optimistic that I will have a few miles left on the clock

I'm 52 in 3 months but mentally feel far younger, though my body is showing it's age. Around mid forties the aches and pains started.its why I need to buy a bike with a more comfortable riding position as half an hour on a sports bike gets my hips and knees seizing up.

Ive been a very very lucky guy health wise and knock on wood it's going to last a wee bit longer. I'm still doing a job that I love and it keeps me on the go all day long. I'm in crawlspace, in attics, on top of roofs, up an down ladders, and constantly on the run.... and I love ( damn near... Haha ) every minute of it. I have the normal aches and pains at the end of the day but nothing a couple hits of morphine wont cure.... just kidding.  About the only thing that gets to me are sore feet and because of asthma my lungs strain when having to carry heavy loads of building materials.

90% of the time I feel as if I'm still in my 30s. But I have to admit there are a few days that I wake up feeling like 182.... lol.

I'm 66 and still drink too much & eat too much.My hips ache sometimes, usually lying in bed in the morning.Had them X-rayed a couple of years ago & they said there was minor wear in them,I take it that's arthritis.I still exercise but since I can't go to the gym it's a bit limited, weights in the garage or back garden & walking. My left knee is a bit dodgy but so long as I remember to wear a support for my walks it seems manageable. My back's been hurting the last couple of days but I think it was the weights & hopefully it'll wear off soon.

I don't really feel any different to what I did years ago....but maybe it's because I drank so much years ago that I can't remember what I felt like then....

I am young one that has gotten older.

Broke my shoulder a couple of years ago in Pattaya. After surgery and recovery my physiotherapist told me I would never get full movement in the joint again, I was too old for that, and I am from 1976... she was the first to tell me I was old.

Girls in Pattaya say i look mid 30's.. but I think they are just being polite.

That just about sums me up.

I do not regret all the years I played football I just wish that when I retired at age 36 I had not got almost immediately addicted to running/jogging 5 nights a week. It was the running on pavements in trainers that gave no real impact cushion that f***d my knees and leave me with lower back pain every single morning.

So I now just cycle and sing "STAYING ALIVE" in my head and hope it is working. 🤣

I’ll be 67 in two weeks.

Mind still young and open (having young kids helps..). Still a touch of rebel and revolutionary.

Health ok, no underlaying problems, never been taking any medication till now except for flu or minor stuff like that.

Never done any sport, gym or exercising. Working on construction sites in the open air, usually 12h shifts you don’t need the gym. But have started swimming 300m every morning since I am retired, 3 y ago.

No food regime, except that I don’t eat fast food stuff and avoid anything deep fried in 10 cm of oil. I have also stopped all excessive partying and drinking since living here. (Aperitif, and wine at the restaurant is not drinking, it’s gastronomy !)

On the minus side :

-        I look less handsome than 30 y ago, but that’s normal.

-        I wake up 2 or 3 times a night for a pee

-        The libido has been switched off at the same time as the party / drinking live, but I don’t care. I appreciate way more a good meal.

-        I don’t run up/down stairs anymore (sight and balance could be tricky..)

-        When waking up I have backpain for about 20 / 30 min. Gone after shower. But the back is sensitive to long sitting or wrong sitting positions.

-        Skin has become sensitive to impacts. Hurting a table corner immediately marks or cuts the skin.

-        And probably a few more very minor things.

I don’t feel old, but the numbers are there, and you can’t cheat the math.

So, yes I am closer to the exit than to the entrance.

I count myself very lucky. At 74 I have no real health issues, Glaucoma in one eye, skin cancers from sun at a young age is about it. Never smoked and drink very little but slightly overweight. Didn't play much sport so the body parts havn't worn out... YET.

I noticed myself slowing down a bit after 70 but having a lovely, much younger partner does me a lot of good.

We still travel a lot and I do notice that it tires me more now but the experience is worth it. Oh, to get back to it!!

I too smashed by shoulder up in Pattaya just over 10.years ago. I had pins and all sorts screws put in, not to mention a big operation scar, done in Pattaya International Soi 4.  Stayed for a couple of months and had physio but really painful.

When I got back to UK the specialist told me there was a screw sticking out in the joint. So they cut me open again, removed all the hardware and manipulated the joint. But I will never be able get proper rotation again my left arm

All my fault, I came off of a motor scooter and I had been drinking (a lot). Hard lesson learned.

I'm 65 (it even feels odd typing that big a number) and mentally I feel just as sharp as I did 30 years ago.

Physically, been lucky, not been to a doc for 47 years. Last time was when I was 18 and broke my leg playing football.

Years of football and then golf have kept me in decent shape, still slim.

But . . . . aches and pains when I get up in the morning, particularly back and left knee. As someone posted above, after 10 minutes and a shower I'm usually raring to go.

The good thing when I wake up is that I usually have a boner. Long may that continue. And I can still perform after a shedload of booze. That's a good job because I tried Viagra and Cialis one time each, both of which gave me horrendous heartburn. So when the hampton doesn't do as he's told, I'll be f****d . . . 😟

I asked about a replacement and the specialist told that it was not the best policy because some of my muscles were damaged and because of my age. I wish I had had the operation but on the other hand I can do most things apart from doing the Mexican wave, a hand stand a play golf. If I am ever arrested, I won't be able to hold both hands in the air

You think of where you were at when you were a fat f**k with busted hips and now ................... you've been amazing and genuinely an inspiration to everyone who knows you and a tribute to what walking can do !!

Been doing martial arts since my 20s and discovered Tai Chi a few years ago love that stuff great for mind and body.

My goal is now to get back to playing tennis again and get Larry back to Subic Bay again ....

Do you think of yourself as being old?

If so, what makes you feel old, and from what age did you notice it?

Sadly, yes I do think of myself as old, for a variety of reasons.

* I pick up a newspaper and recognise virtually none of the entertainers they mention.

* I hate crowded venues and loud music.

* I'm intolerant, e.g. can't stand noisy kids.

* My joints seem to take it in turn to ache.

* I'm close to not being able to get up from a squat position.

* I wake up to pee once or twice a night.

* The libido seems to be close to exhausted. Rump and breast are almost of more interest on my plate than in my bed!

* Most of the hair on the top of my head has gone AWOL.

* I notice myself doddering around home like Albert Steptoe!

I retired 11 years ago at age 59. My eyesight improved for the first 5 or 6 years of those (short-sightedness being compensated by long-sightedness that comes with aging), and I was able to give up the glasses I had worn since age 14. Unfortunately, it is buggered again now because of cataracts.

I think feeling old came at around age 66. That was when the eyes started to deteriorate again, the joints began to give me grief, and the hair was noticeably thin.

I've never been one for sport or exercise, but I have attempted to do a fair bit of walking since I retired. I try to do my 10,000 steps every day.

Since my teen years I wore glasses or contact lenses due to short-sightedness until age 65 when I had to have cataract surgery. My distance vision immediately improved to 20/25 in both eyes. Only use glasses for reading now. Unfortunately night blindness is on the increase.
