The area in the above pictures showing water etc - shows yet a further problem - that water cannot drain anywhere - there must be a dip in the concrete slab - so it will lay there between the steel grates at either end.

If they try cutting a drainage channel they will weaken the concrete slab which covers the 'pond' and that slab may not have been that strong to start with ?

Interesting......

Opposite Sutus Court this brightly coloured place now has a condo sales office taking up part of the bottom floor.

And rates for the rooms above once they're finished.

Looks like cables too in your subsequent pics, but maybe at a different point on the road?  This is what first made me suggest it.

I might have misspoke in my latest post that they're burying the cables in addition to enlarging the drainage on Beach Rd. The conduits in the pic look like they were already there when they dug up Beach Rd, yet again. They were probably put in place when they widened Beach Rd. Looks like what they're doing now is installing the larger drain system under the cables.

I use a Canon 6d mark II and mostly for the motor cycle shots a Canon EF 70-200 mm F/4.0 L IS USM Lens.

Your photos are fantastic quality, it has to be said.

Now I look, there is a fair bit of duplication.  Sorry Gents.

Yes one scary individual in the black dress. As long as he doesn't work in Le Pub or the Rockhouse when I am there at New Year, I should be ok.

I had to do a double take in picture 4, thought the passenger was carrying a toilet roll then thought maybe it was some sort of dog but I settled for a handy toilet roll lol

The south end of Beach Road, from Baywalk to Walking street, is a mess at the moment.

It appears that the road is being dug up to instal drains. However, if you can read Thai, perhaps you can let us know what these signs say.

Work is taking place between Walking Street and Soi 13/3, but the road has been broken up, and access prevented, as far as Baywalk.

As a pedestrian, you need to walk on the east side of the road. Just to encourage you, they have taken up some of the boardwalk on the beach side.

Traffic is down to one lane from Soi 13/3, so traffic jams are inevitable.

Something is happening at the corner of Soi 15 (the one behind The Avenue shopping mall) and Soi Casino, beside the Neta Hotel.

There is a plot of waste land there, which was fenced off a couple of years ago. However, the low fencing did not prevent the motorcycle taxi guys continuing to use the land as resting and toilet facilities.

However, there is work going on there now. My best guess is that the land is owned by Neta, and Neta is expanding into the ground.

It looks like a small garden being constructed, and possibly toilets. Maybe a pool? [Edit: On reflection, I think more likely an outside bar.]

Khao Talo is getting larger drains too.

Meanwhile at the Easy R-Con open sewer project, they're still working on the cover to hide the leaky valves.

Gotta love a Thai flood control project that leaves one of the storm drains in worse condition than before the project began.

Noticed last night at the Easy R-Con open sewer project they were putting the final touches on the framework for the valve compartment covers. Made a point to get over there today to snap a few pics of the finished product and managed to catch them installing the final cover.

Unfcking believable, they managed to screw up the cover size, again...

I like the look of those five guys when they realise it’s too thick. 🤣

The cover wasn't too thick, it's too wide for the opening that was left after the other cover sections were installed.

What I think happened is rather than wait until the framework was completed to measure the actual opening size, they sent off the order for the cover sections based on the dimensions as specified in the plan. While that would work in a western country, TIT so all bets are off that the final product matches what was in the plan.

I still maintain the plan probably called for a concrete box that was flush with the existing road level, but they didn't dig the hole deep enough per the plan so they ended up with a massive speed bump at the end of the soi.

What do you think are the chances of them getting the drains along Beach Road to do the job intended? 😢

The grinder and jackhammer are back at the Easy R-Con open sewer project.
48597531302_1e4d07c3af_b.jpg

My guess is they're digging up the concrete to put in a metal skirt around drain grates.
48597531047_b793a350e3_b.jpg

Wonder if this is the long term solution to the wrong sized covers, hide it behind a barricade.
48597530932_35957a50f1_b.jpg

Another goof in either the height of the cover or depth of the supporting framework.
