Street Photographs From Pattaya Area

Today's update on the Easy R-Con open sewer project. Two days ago they ripped up the concrete around the drain grates. Today I see they've poured new concrete and added a bead of sealant in the joint. Puzzled as to why they did this.

And on the other end, more destruction taking place on the framework for the valve compartment covers.

Something is happening at the corner of Soi 15 (the one behind The Avenue shopping mall) and Soi Casino, beside the Neta Hotel.

There is a plot of waste land there, which was fenced off a couple of years ago. However, the low fencing did not prevent the motorcycle taxi guys continuing to use the land as resting and toilet facilities.

However, there is work going on there now. My best guess is that the land is owned by Neta, and Neta is expanding into the ground.

It looks like a small garden being constructed, and possibly toilets. Maybe a pool? [Edit: On reflection, I think more likely an outside bar.]

An update on the plot next to Neta Hotel.

It wasn't a garden being made there. An incredibly thin layer of concrete was laid on top of what I thought might be a garden, and some sort of flimsy construction has begun.

Any thoughts on what might be going up there?

Shop units? Tat stalls? Bars?

You might recall on Second Road, just north of Soi 6 near McDonald's and in front of a Korean dominated area, there has been an abandoned construction site for many years now. It looks as if something might be happening because hoardings have now been erected.

At the north end of Beach Road, after it leaves the beach and goes towards the Dolphin roundabout, the drain laying is having a beneficial effect. The pavement rather than the road is being dug up, and a nice new pavement laid.

Who would have expected to come across a Bond Bug in Thailand!

Was it for sale? If so, do you know the price?

First I've heard of a Bond Bug, but then I'm a yank. Here's a crop of the pic and from the window sticker it would appear it's a museum piece. We're really old when something from 1970 is now sitting in a museum.

Many thanks.

Totally agree with your comment - scary!

I had a go in one once, scared the shite out of me as it was on 2 wheels most of the time! The one I drove had doors though. The whole “car” shook, squeaked and rattled and I really believed it was about to fall apart around me. 😢

Collectors item now.

(Apologies for this severe threadfuck!)

I think the Bond 850 before it was a much better car. Hillman Imp engine, and it was fast for the time. That was before Reliant acquired Bond.

One day later and I have to retract my post that they were finished with the Easy R-Con open sewer project. The workers are making a lifetime career out of this project, and giving us a lifetime worth of photo material.

Another BM was asking about the state of the debris clogged drain. Still clogged.

A minor update on the Beach Road drain laying.

Closed traffic lanes now extend back to Royal Garden, but nothing has been re-opened at the Walking Street end.

There is virtually nowhere to walk on the beach side, so everyone has to use the other side. Even in those circumstances, the street vendors and motorcycle hire guys continue to get away with murder - and it could be close to literally that if someone steps into the road to avoid the obstruction and there's a speeding vehicle going by (which I did yesterday!).

Almost finished now - an open air restaurant:

Edit:

"Kuai Tiao Ruea, also known as Boat noodles is a Thai style noodle dish, with a very and unique flavour. It contains pork or beef depending on your choice, as well as dark soy sauce, pickled bean curd and some other spices and it is normally served with pork balls. The soup is usually made with pigs blood and it's called Nam Tok. This tradition dish is usually served in a small bowl. Boat noodles have been served since long time ago and they were original served from boats on the Bangkok or Ayutthaya canals. That's the reason why usually outside the canteen of the restaurant you can still find a real traditional boat."

Don't think I'll be stopping by!

Easy R-Con open sewer project update. They're back...

Can't see the guy, but there's a third worker bee down there in the drain line hammering away with a jackhammer. Seems to me it would have been better to take care of clearing the drain lines when the road was tore up, but then again, I'm not Thai so what do I know.
