Maybe a glimmer of hope?

Why madness? Madness would be giving away the tourist visa without restrictions. Consulates couldn't handle the applications, quarantien hotels would not be availalbe. They are opening step by step and picking now  people with money to spend.

What would you do instead? Letting everybody in and run around on an exempt stamp and a covid test?

This will come sooner or later, but not now.

It's excessive.  I think they need to find a middle ground between the extreme you describe and complete closure, but this isn't it.

The long long list of hoops to jump through to get the tourist visa is jaw dropping....Which eliminates 99.999% of tourist.........Its called opening while remaining closed.....O I am sure there will be a few die hard Thailand lifers who are beyond desperate to come back who are happy to have the tourist visa option but for everyone else the tourist visa might as well not exist....

There are a number of countries like Mexico that have no entry requirements what-so-ever, none, zilch....And they seem to be doing just fine....
