john luke Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) The Sanctuary of Truth is located at the Naklua end of Pattaya. It is entirely privately funded and receives no money from the Government/Local Authority. Admission is 500 baht for everyone (Thai and Non Thai). There is one free day per year, however I understand that the place is packed that day. The Sanctuary is made of re claimed wood and all the pieces are joined together and not nailed or screwed. It is continually being developed and work is always ongoing. Edited September 24, 2018 by john luke 1 2
Nightcrawler Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Excellent pictures. Been there a couple of times.
Painter Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) Went there years ago with an ex. Had a guide who explained everything in both English and Thai, and took lots of pictures (since lost when a computer died) for us. Amazing woodwork! Thanks JL Edited September 24, 2018 by Painter

john luke Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) And finally back up the steps. A wide angle lens used for some of the shots, so there is a little distortion. Edited September 24, 2018 by john luke 3

Thinkingallowed Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Some great pics there, thanks. Haven't been there for a few years. I wonder if they still do the music, dancing and fighting demonstrations in the restaurant at certain times. On my last visit I ended up on stage doing the sword fighting.

Krapow Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Nice pics, though wouldn't go there due to the elephant ride with metal 'saddle' cruelty.

I went on an elephant ride when I was younger and more ignorant. Now I wouldn't go near anywhere that has any sort of 'animal show'. Especially when the Thais can be so cruel to the animals. Have you seen how they break an elephants spirit? Would break your heart.

Sadly, yes. Though could only watch it for a very short while, and wife was in tears. It's mostly Khmer mahoots these days. Those metal 'saddle' things do a lot of damage as well, to the spine, and creates many wounds and sores underneath it. Don't want to spoil the thread, some cracking pics, but the more people get educated to what actually goes on, vote with their feet, the more the cruelty stops and elephant sanctuaries open.
